Chapter 127: One hundred and five: Reunion
"You’re not dead?" The first sentence Colin said almost angered Malin to death.
But then he thought—of course not. In the space of one day and one night, he’d taken two ’flights,’ survived two ’airship disasters,’ one to the North and one back. Especially the second time, the Divine Envoy’s face had turned ghastly pale, presumably upon discovering the Evil God’s actions. By all accounts, any individual with even a smidge of normal luck would’ve died outright.
Yet not only had Malin not become a casualty, he returned to Carterburg carrying a Firearm that Chaos had used.
What was more fatal was that he appeared out of thin air in front of the Church’s entrance.
So Malin understood why Colin arrived at the gate fully armed with a group of people—given the situation, he too would have armed himself to the teeth before daring to stand at the gate.
"I’m not dead, the God of Justice brought me back here," Malin was saying when everyone saw a carriage speeding towards them. The carriage began to slow down from a distance and eventually stopped across the street. The person who jumped out of the vehicle was none other than the old Bishop from the Church of Justice, who immediately spoke upon witnessing the scene: "By the holy decree of the Lord, Malin was returned to you by Him, this child is pure and untainted."
Maya was the first to break free from the guards’ restraint and ran swiftly towards Malin, throwing herself into his arms.
The Leopard Girl didn’t cry, though tears rolled down Malin’s face, somewhat hot to the touch.
"Don’t worry, see, I’m perfectly fine," Malin said smiling as he patted his Leopard Girl sister.
Then he noticed the old Bishop approaching, handing him a badge: "The Lord acknowledges that your actions on the Northern front are commendable. Take it, you may use it to obtain discounted supplies at any Church of the Lord of Justice."
As he said this, the old Bishop glanced at Hoffman, who was already eager in his wheelchair, and smiled, about to speak. But Malin stopped him with a gesture and a smile, "I currently have no plans to convert, the Church of the Goddess of Harvest has too many friends and mentors of mine. Sir, if you intend to speak of this, please refrain."
"Well then, child, I will take my leave. Remember, the gates of the Church of Justice are always open to you."
"Thank you."
Once the conversation was over, Malin watched the Bishop depart, then turned and smiled at his mentor in the wheelchair.
"Why block him? If he dared to try converting you, I would have killed him today," grumbled old Hoffman before bursting into laughter. "Welcome back, child."
Now that the God of Justice had endorsed him, a brief check was conducted on Malin to confirm he had no hidden injuries or corruptions, and he was then allowed to move freely.
Maya, the little Leopard Girl, became his shadow once again today, refusing to leave Malin’s side, so he simply took her with him to the forge, telling the Blue-steel uncle about the business he’d brought.
The latter immediately said there was no problem: "My kin from Eternal Peak Fortress in the North arrived, originally wanting to learn crafting from me. This is perfect; I’ll have them join in on making this batch of tools. I will ensure the quality, they will be a credit to our shop."
"I’ll leave it to you," said Malin. After finishing, he took the Firearm off his back, "This is the Purified Chaos Firearm, let’s take a look at its construction."
"That’s great! Honestly, it’s my first time seeing a Firearm of Chaos," Blue-steel uncle said, expressing that this was indeed a treat.
...........
When Faye heard Malin had returned, it was already getting dark; the girl, who had locked herself in her room and cried all afternoon, realized how foolish she’d been. After hearing what her Head Maid had said, she leaped off her bed, burst open the door, and saw her Head Maid standing there with a smile, holding a washbasin.
"I’m quite foolish, aren’t I, Lena?" Faye pouted.
"Tears shed for a loved one are more precious than gold. It’s just that some people don’t cherish them, while others simply can’t control their tear ducts," her Head Maid said with a smile in Elvish.
"Lena!!" Faye shrieked.
Her Head Maid smiled and passed the basin to her young mistress, "Go on then, Miss, don’t let your tears be in vain, and don’t keep your beloved waiting."
Faye was momentarily stunned, then looked towards the end of the corridor, "Malin... he’s come?"
"Yes, Mr. Malin and his sister, as well as Miss Jessica and Miss Lillim, are waiting for you in the hall," the Head Maid said with a smile.
Faye fell silent for a moment, then sprinted toward the long table, carrying a tray as if she were flying, "Quick, Lena, get my makeup case ready!"
"You won’t let your lover see the real you."
"That can wait until we’re both old!"
...........
Malin was a bit worried about the girls because the Divine Envoy had brought back the news of Malin’s ’plane crash,’ making everyone certain Malin was done for, except for these few who still waited for the impossibly small chance of his return.
Luckily, they had waited. When Malin found Jessica, the werewolf girl was fighting with a pack of her own kind—over a dozen wolf girls were beating her just because she had rejected the brother of the one who had given the orders.
This time, Malin was not polite; he disabled the werewolf girl’s brother in front of everyone—sending the kid flying with a streetlight.
No holding back, no mercy; whether he lived or died was up to fate.
In Sydney, blood vengeance was legal, and even Malin welcomed that family to seek revenge—he would send each of them to the historical gutter one by one.
Malin spared that werewolf girl; not out of his mercy, but because Jessica took matters into her own hands. With a duel of real swords, she personally beheaded that woman.
It was the first time Malin had seen Jessica display the rage that belonged to a werewolf.
But no matter, Malin agreed.
Leaving the mess to the Church of the War God, Malin went with the girls to find Lillim.
When they found this sheep girl, she was sitting unhappily in a café, not giving the boy sitting in front of her a good face, no matter how much he talked.
That phrase—"My boyfriend isn’t dead yet"—struck right at Malin’s heart.
So Malin walked up behind the boy, tapped him on the shoulder, and the boy, having seen Malin before, fled immediately.
When Lillim threw herself at him, her ram horns nearly burst Malin’s lungs.
The girl nearly finished the job that the Chaos of the North had struggled so desperately to achieve.
From their mouths, Malin heard about Faye’s story—how she had run home crying after hearing about Malin’s situation and hadn’t even attended her afternoon classes... although neither the werewolf nor the sheep girl had been paying much attention to their classes either.
So, when Malin saw Faye in front of him with light makeup still on and her eyes still swollen,
He resignedly opened his arms, allowing the girl to throw herself into his embrace.
"I’m back," he said.
"Welcome back," she replied.
