Chapter 1124: Section 698: Oath (Part 2)_2

"Pretty smart, huh." Malin chuckled and flexed his hands.

"They are very smart, indeed they’re artificial lifeforms, brought over by the Four-Islanders back in the day. For a long time, they served as substitutes for war horses, but ever since chariots came out, these war chickens were converted for civilian use." Bei Luo explained.

Malin glanced around and approached a patrol officer: "Could I borrow your discipline stick for a moment?"

Perhaps Malin’s Thainan was very fluent, as this middle-aged man smiled and pulled out his discipline stick: "Sir, I must say first, war chickens are extremely fierce creatures, they even dare to attack Chaos."

Accepting the courtesy, Malin smiled and nodded, then walked up to the war chicken, holding both ends of the iron stick, he formed a concentric circle.

The war chicken, initially poised to attack Malin, made a gurgling sound and lowered its head to nuzzle Malin’s face.

Malin returned the discipline stick to its original shape, handed it back to the patrol officer with thanks, and under his bewildered gaze, patted the war chicken’s head: "Meng Quyi, lead the way."

Quyi smiled and maneuvered the war chicken to walk ahead, Malin followed with Bei Luo and Jason—Sostak No.3 couldn’t resist the allure of the military factory Bixiu V had to offer and decided to follow along for a look.

"No wonder it’s the best-preserved pre-destruction city after the Great Destruction." Looking at the skyscrapers ahead, Jason was full of envy; he turned to Bei Luo: "Is this the city center?"

"No, this is the administrative district, beyond here, the buildings are not as intact, but this is the only complete old city district in all of Thainan. Under our maintenance, lifts and lights have already started working again." Bei Luo introduced the area with pride.

Malin thought the Thanans had every reason to be proud; they preserved the last remaining glory of the old days, allowing the young people of this era to personally experience such beauty.

Lighting alone is enough to adorn the night into a beautiful life.

This aspect, a Westland world using street lamps, including Carterburg, can’t compare.

Of course, Meng Quyi’s home couldn’t be in the administrative district, as there are actually no residents here; these buildings are used by various departments, closing nightly, entrusted to the mechanical battle armor for patrols — this is for energy conservation, considering a generator at the power plant broke recently; departments used to operate in three shifts but now that’s not possible.

"Can’t it be fixed?" As a curious man, Malin asked.

"We can’t produce the required parts, nearby safe zones have been thoroughly searched. I found a database indicating there should be pre-destruction factories with such parts in the southwest region of New Hangzhou, but that’s a Dark Zone, very dangerous." Bei Luo’s explanation first made Malin sigh — it seems New Thainan doesn’t possess a complete system of factories; it’s only expected—if they truly had complete equipment, they wouldn’t need to use laser weapons yet still rely on gunpowder weapons.

"I can help you." Contemplating this, Malin decided to lend a hand — anyway, his hometown is in that area, and he would visit it on the way back.

Even if... even if the hometown is gone.

At least Malin would have returned to see it.

"Can you really, Lord Malin, it’s a tough task, the Dark Zone is extremely dangerous."

"Leave it to me, I’ll just take Jason." Malin didn’t want to bring Lulu and Quyi along; hmph, not to say, a girl can only slow down my draw blade speed.

"The Dark Zone is very dangerous; I think I can act as a guide." Quyi and Lulu turned heads together.

"No need to worry, ladies, I am the best candidate for a guide." Bei Luo stepped forward, solving Malin’s issue while also drawing ire upon himself.

......

The old lady of the Meng family stood inside the door, staring fiercely at Mr. Meng. As her child, Mr. Meng felt his life was like a candle in the wind, truly dangerous — all because he returned this morning to tell the family how Meng Quyi had chosen a husband while in Westland.

Mr. Meng didn’t initially reveal Malin’s identity, origins, and achievements, wanting to surprise the family elders.

Afterward, things went awry; the elders were indignant, some from distant branches even claimed today he brought someone matchmaking, Meng Changsheng unexpectedly bullied the elders.

Mr. Meng was scolded for two hours straight, even his parents rebuked him, so he said nothing further — whatever it was, let Malin come and shut them up one by one.

Yet, for some unknown reason, this whole clan waited a long time at the door, until some of the elders needed ginseng soup to sustain them; only then did his daughter, accompanied by that girl Lulu, return riding the war chicken.

"Father, that Westlander girl is quite nice, I like her." His uncle’s third grandson mentioned.

Mr. Meng chuckled, go ahead if you’re bold enough; if he remembered correctly, the girl is a High-Order Mage, ten of you wouldn’t be enough for her.

"Quyi is even cuter this time, Uncle Meng, I must win her over." The Li family lad, invited by his second uncle, seemed determined, but in Mr. Meng’s view, the lad truly wasn’t enough of a match.

"Hey, who’s that big guy with two kids, still laughing dumbly?" His third uncle, sharp-eyed, spotted an issue and then raged: "Changsheng! Is that what you meant by Quyi’s significant other?! How is he some red-haired foreign devil!"

"Quiet all of you." One word from the old lady crushed everyone present — as a step before Legendary, the old lady finished scolding and walked out the door alone.

Mr. Meng chuckled — after all, the family’s old lady understands.

The old lady surveyed briefly, then turned to Mr. Meng: "Changsheng, come over here."

"Grandma." Regarding his family’s old lady, Mr. Meng couldn’t muster any anger.

"That young man, that’s Malin, a Westlander, right?" The old lady smiled with a hint of kindness.

This smile caused Mr. Meng’s scalp to tingle as he realized the family’s oldest elder seemed on the verge of exploding.

So he didn’t speak, merely nodded.

"Very well, Second Uncle, please send the Li family lad away, this marriage I do not approve." The old lady turned toward her child.

"Mom!"

In Mr. Meng’s view, the first half of his second uncle’s ’Mom’ was still normal, but the latter part turned into a shrill scream as he was slapped flying by a Psychic Palm.

Feeling somewhat guilty, Mr. Meng watched as his second uncle crashed through the wall into the yard, finally landing in the pond.

The Li family lad hesitated briefly, then fled under the old lady’s watch.

"Mom..."

His uncle felt nervous.

"Tell your kid to mind his mouth, otherwise, if he gets killed, I won’t lead him astray." The old lady finished speaking, glancing at that young lad.

The latter froze: "Great-grandma!"

"Little Eleven, if you ever dare target her, I won’t be your great-grandma anymore." The old lady said, then turned to look at his third uncle.

Mr. Meng’s third uncle felt extremely uneasy being stared down, so he tried to shrink his towering Meng family stature: "Mom."

"A hundred of you tied together wouldn’t withstand that young man. Don’t wanna die, or make me, your mother, fret about piecing you together, then zip it." Finished, the old lady once more glanced at her fourth son.

Mr. Meng watched his father harden his jaw and step forward toward the old lady.

"Quyi found a good match, this time your son Changsheng’s judgment wasn’t bad, your judgment doesn’t match his." The old lady laughed upon saying this, she turned and descended the stairs, meeting Malin with an unexpected speed for an old lady.

"Great-grandma, you sure are sturdy." Malin smiled and extended his hand, offering some fruit—each one plump.

The old lady smiled and accepted the fruit: "You sure gave a generous gift... Changsheng, take this young man to your room to rest, tonight our Meng family has an honored guest." With that, the old lady reverted to needing support, and Malin at this moment, reached out to steady her.

Mr. Meng saw his family old lady sigh.

As if lamenting the children of her family.
