During the meeting.
Chen Ping, the head of the Architecture department, put forward some suggestions.
For instance, on the matter of the campus expansion, after Chen Ping reported to Principal Ding the impossibility of expanding the campus, Ding Yue understood that it seemed expanding the current campus was quite unrealistic.
Looking at the situation, it appears that establishing a new campus is necessary.
But then comes the problem: where to build this new campus? This is a very important issue.
"Ladies and gentlemen, regarding the matter of expanding the current campus or building a new one, we have come to a unanimous decision to opt for a new campus. The next item on the agenda will be the location of the new campus. Does anyone have any good suggestions?"
Ding Yue continued to preside over the meeting.
"Principal Ding, my suggestion is to still choose a location near University Town."
One department head suggested.
"Why not choose a location in the county? Many of Mist City’s institutions of higher learning established their branch campuses in counties when the time came."
Another department head suggested.
"Won’t the county areas be too far?"
"If it’s in a county, land is cheaper."
"Does Mist City Arts and Science University look like it’s short on funds?"
"That doesn’t mean we can waste money recklessly."
"If a new campus is established in a county, then which departments are willing to move there?"
"That indeed is a problem."
"It would be very difficult to find a location for a new campus in the Mist City urban area."
"Yes, the new campus is supposed to be about the same size as the current one. Where are we going to find such space?"
For a moment, heads of various departments and leaders of each section discussed fervently whether to build a new campus in a county or within Mist City’s urban area.
Being able to express their own opinions and put forward suggestions for the establishment of Mist City Arts and Science University’s new campus was a good thing.
Ding Yue watched everyone heatedly debate without intervening, instead taking all of their opinions to heart.
"It seems that the current debate is whether to choose a county or an urban area for the new campus. Director Chen, do you have anything to say?"
Ding Yue turned to Chen Ping, the head of Architecture department, and asked.
On this matter, Ding Yue felt that Director Chen Ping surely had more and better suggestions.
"Principal Ding, as it appears now, whether we choose the county or the urban area, each choice has its own advantages and disadvantages."
Director Chen Ping replied: "If we choose a county, the issue of land can be resolved easily, and land costs are cheaper, which is a benefit. However, the disadvantage is also clear – if the new campus is established in a county, some students going there undoubtedly will have some grievances or objections. Not just the students, but since we would be moving certain departments to the county campus, which departments should go? That’s another issue."
What Director Chen Ping said was exactly what Ding Yue had in mind.
Indeed, these were issues that needed resolution, and they were problems that were hard to balance.
The county is further away from the main campus, and it would indeed be difficult to decide which departments should move there. Moreover, if students also had to move there, it would likely lead to dissatisfaction and grievances.
All these factors had to be considered.
After all, the current campus of Mist City Arts and Science University is so excellent, who would be willing to leave it for a new campus in a different county?
I assume many students would be reluctant to leave the Book Ship Library, the Fifth Canteen, the Panda Garden, the campus shopping mall...
Who could easily give up all of that?
Therefore, the best solution would be to establish a new campus not far from the current main campus of Mist City Arts and Science University, thereby directly resolving all these issues faced when choosing a location in the county.
But the problem is, where can we find an available plot of land close to the main campus of Mist City Arts and Science University to build a new campus?
It would require demolishing a large area.
"Hmm, what if we choose to build the new campus in the urban area?"
Ding Yue nodded and then asked Director Chen Ping.
"If we establish a campus in the urban area, it’s difficult to acquire land, and considering the scale of the new campus we intend to build should be similar to the current one, in order to meet Mist City Arts and Science University’s student intake in the coming years, it’s really hard to secure such a big parcel of land. Looking at Mist City, its rapid development over these years has made the demand for land exceptionally high," said Director Chen Ping with a sigh.
After hearing Director Chen Ping’s comments, everyone nodded in agreement, believing he was correct; finding a plot of land to build a new campus as large as the current one within Mist City’s urban area was virtually impossible.
"Well, that complicates things."
Huang Youjie spoke up, saying, "Choosing the county creates a challenge in balancing interests as the distance is too far, and nobody is willing to go there, and if we choose the urban area, we simply can’t find the land."
"Principal Ding."
At this moment, Director Chen Ping took out his phone, then projected a screenshot of a map onto the screen: "Principal Ding, this is the land situation of our University Town area. Over here, is the University Town region, which is basically fully developed. Mist City Arts and Science University is located here, to the west are mountains, the east is other universities, the south used to have available land but it has now been incorporated into residential planning areas; further south are our factories, the automobile factory, graphene battery factory, etc., and further south are other industrial areas. If these southern industrial areas could be relocated, then we could establish a new campus at this location. It would be less than ten kilometers from our current campus, thus forming a situation with North and South Campuses."
