As He Zhilan took the note and exited the room, she happened to run into the pregnant Bian Xiulin standing outside the neighbouring room, ready to knock. Probably due to the noise from the next room, she seemed curious and cast a glance. Seeing He Zhilan in her pajamas, looking as if she had just woken up from He Teng’s room, she was taken aback.

"Why’re you coming out of your brother’s room this early in the morning?" Bian Xiulin asked as she approached He Zhilan, "Don’t tell me you shared a room with He Mutou last night?"

He Zhilan nodded, then said, "I left my key inside, and I’ve called for someone to bring the spare key from the reception. Why are you here alone so early? Where’s Xing Ye? Isn’t he with you?"

"He’s at work. The driver brought me here. He’s still waiting downstairs." As Bian Xiulin replied, her expression gradually changed, and a crafty smile began to appear on her face, "Nothing happened between you and your brother last night, right? Nothing.. fiery? Any attempts at making babies?"

"In reply to the grand emperor, everything was peaceful last night. Your humble subject had a good sleep!" He Zhilan shook her head and gently patted Bian Xiulin’s shoulder. "So, nothing happened last night. Put away your gossiping face, and tell me why you’re here this early?"

"Ah! Seeing you after so many months, you’ve changed! You are calling yourself ’the grand emperor’ now! So, shouldn’t I identify myself as ’the empress dowager’?" Bian Xiulin laughed when made fun of by He Zhilan, "The empress dowager is here to take you back to the palace!"

"Let’s talk normally! What palace are you talking about?" He Zhilan gave up trying to continue the jest first because she really couldn’t understand the meaning of Bian Xiulin’s words.

"You and Jennifer’s new residence have been arranged, so the driver and I have come to pick both of you up," Bian Xiulin explained with a smile.

"Already? But my brother may not be here for the next few days. Wait a moment; let me pack his stuff and take it with us. Then, I’ll leave a message for the hotel staff." As He Zhilan spoke, she pulled Bian Xiulin into He Teng’s room, efficiently tidied up his possessions, which weren’t many to begin with. When the hotel staff brought her key, she washed up, changed clothes, packed her luggage in her own room, and finally left with Bian Xiulin about half an hour later.

By the time He Zhilan went to the hotel lobby, both the driver and Jennifer were already waiting. After apologizing to them with a smile, He Zhilan went over to the front desk and spoke a few words with the hotel staff. If He Teng comes back, they should tell him to find her at the address she left. After she had arranged all this, she left the hotel with Bian Xiulin and the others.

The new residence arranged by Xing Ye was in a very new building. Jennifer lived on the third floor and He Zhilan on the fourth. Considering Jennifer’s preference for solitude, He Zhilan did not insist on living with her so as not to interfere with her lifestyle.

After settling into their new home, the driver first took Bian Xiulin back to her place. Then he took He Zhilan and Jennifer to the village that they had previously visited for an on-site inspection of the two pieces of land mentioned by Xing Ye.

At this time, the villagers’ income was basically from farming. Only during the slack farming season would they go to look for casual labour. Thus, as they entered the village, they could see the yellowing rice fields everywhere. The early ones were already being harvested.
