He Zhilan wondered if, during the thirteen years that had passed, she had grown up, and the beggars who had once benefitted from her generosity had also grown up and similarly forgotten about the carefree, chubby little girl who used to live where the department store now stood.

While He Zhilan was lost in thought, Lihua patted her on the shoulder, snapping her out of her reverie, only to find that the rest of her colleagues had already arrived.

Once in the restaurant, Lihua drew He Zhilan to sit next to her, quietly asking what she had been thinking about earlier.

"Not much, just saw that legless beggar and recalled some childhood memories," He Zhilan shook her head and then shifted her attention to the Chinese menu. She was the only one in the team who was proficient in both Chinese and English, so, naturally, the task of ordering food fell onto her.

Upon opening the menu, He Zhilan discovered that it was a Cantonese restaurant. After detailing many dishes to her colleagues and asking for their preferences, she proceeded to order.

No doubt about it, Bono was an extremely generous boss. For accommodation, he would choose the best and most luxurious hotel in the city, to ensure everyone enjoyed the best treatment during their rest. For dining, he didn’t bother about the number of people, as long as someone showed interest, he would accommodate their wishes. He reasoned that they might only visit this city once in their lives, so all desires should be satisfied.

There were only eight people in their party, including He Zhilan, yet Bono had her order nearly twenty dishes; when they were served, the entire large round table couldn’t fit everything.

Lihua was used to this extravagance, "Bono is somewhat of a perfectionist. Whatever he does, wherever he goes, he doesn’t want to have any regrets. He says, even if he orders too much food and can’t finish, as long as he has tasted it, he’s satisfied. Having tasted it represents an experience. Not having tasted it means there’s a gap in his life’s experience."

"That’s actually pretty good," He Zhilan nodded in agreement, then added, "As long as he has the money."

This last bit was said in jest. When Lihua heard it, she also broke into a smile, "Bono isn’t short of money, he’s short of female companionship. A pity you’re married."

As soon as Lihua mentioned this, everyone at the table looked surprised. Their country advocated late marriage and childbirth. Bono, advanced in age, was still not married, yet He Zhilan, the youngest member of their team, was already wedded.

"Your country truly is remarkable!" Bono raised his shoulders in disbelief and stated.

He Zhilan gave a quiet laugh without saying much. This was just a difference in cultural practices, so there was nothing much to explain. In ancient times, girls used to get married at the age of fourteen. The fact that the law now required girls to be at least eighteen before marrying was already a form of progress.

Nearly twenty dishes were naturally too much for eight people to finish. After the meal, Bono went to pay the bill while Lihua and the others went to the restroom. However, due to the peak dinner hour, there was a line outside the restroom, so they were chatting while they queued up.

"Bono, can I ask the waiter to pack up the leftover food for the beggars outside?" He Zhilan asked as she followed Bono towards the counter.

Following the direction of He Zhilan’s pointing finger, Bono smiled in agreement, "Of course, my kind-hearted lady!"

"Thank you!" He Zhilan thanked him before asking the waiter to pack the food for her. She then went out of the restaurant, crossed the road, and carrying the leftover food, approached the beggar she had noticed earlier.
