The car was parked just outside the train station door. He Teng opened the car door, putting He Zhilan’s items on the back seat while urging her to get in the car.

"Bro, you drove here huh?" He Zhilan plopped down on the passenger’s seat. It was only after He Teng got in the driver’s seat and started the car that she asked in sudden realization, "Bro, you can drive!"

On New Year’s Eve, the streets were crowded with people. He Zhilan leaned against the car window, completely absorbed in watching. The spirit of the lunar new year wasn’t as strong in the capital was it was in this small town. The street was already bustling with buying and selling. "True." He Zhilan replied, straightening up and leaning back comfortably, and then she kept looking at He Teng and laughing, "Bro, I prepared a New Year’s gift for you!"

He Teng gave a nodded, there didn’t seem to be any extra emotion in his tone or on his face, like he didn’t have much anticipation or surprise.

He Teng’s reaction made He Zhilan lose her enthusiasm. She huffed in low voice to indicate her dissatisfaction, then stopped talking.

She thought that He Teng should at least show a bit of excitement, anticipation, or perhaps surprise and joy. Instead, his face remained expressionless and unchanged.

When the two arrived at the base it was almost one o’clock. After getting out of the car, Kang Xing and Niu Rang quickly ran over, stopped directly in front of He Zhilan, bowed and said in unison, "Welcome, sister-in-law, to the military base for the New Year!"

He Zhilan let out a stifled laugh. He Teng stood behind her, carrying her things, and glared at Niu Rang and Kang Xing. The two quickly ran off again.

"Mrs. He!" Chen Ya’nan had been eagerly waiting. She finally saw He Zhilan. The moment she saw He Zhilan, she rushed over, almost as fast as lightning. She was still far away when Chen Ya’nan started yelling, but in the blink of an eye, she was in front of He Zhilan. Chen Ya’nan threw her arms around He Zhilan and jumped around with joy.
