For the rest of the afternoon, He Zhilan stayed in her dorm, fearing that she might miss He Teng’s phone call. That was until Huang Cai returned and relayed that Senior Zhou was waiting for her downstairs.

"Huang Cai, I’ll go down first. If I’m not around and someone calls for me, just tell them I had to step out briefly, and asked them to call back in about half an hour," instructed He Zhilan before she quickly tied up her loose hair and descended the stairs.

"Well, let’s stay here and talk then." Zhou Hongjin observed that He Zhilan’s expression did not seem to be lying so he stopped doubting. He continued, "The reason why I said that yesterday was because I thought maybe I could persuade Liao Qinghong back that way. But, I did consider the consequences. I want to tell you that though it was a bit impulsive when I said that you were my girlfriend, I was feeling more earnest."

He Zhilan nodded her agreement without a word, just raising her head to look quietly at Zhou Hongjin. A woman’s intuition told her what Zhou Hongjin was going to say next.

"He Zhilan, you might think I am being flippant based on what I am about to say next, but, I hope you’ll trust me when I tell you that each word is heartfelt." Zhou Hongjin pondered for a few seconds before speaking again, "I have feelings for you, or you can say that I like you. You have brought to life the image of my future wife that I had in mind – long, black hair, fair skin, beautiful eyes, and a smile that always lingers. You are neither overly affected nor overly pitying towards others. Your appropriate cunning and tact make your personality irresistibly likable. When I say I like you, I mean it."

Taking a pause, Zhou Hongjin noticed He Zhilan’s eyes reflected surprise, yet she was not completely shocked. He continued, "He Zhilan, we haven’t known each other for long, so you may not understand me well. Unlike most people, I approach everything with a serious attitude, be it studying or emotions. After the considerable time that has passed since I met you, I’ve been deeply contemplating whether we’re suitable for each other, whether my fondness for you can extend to love, and then sustain. I’ve finally come to a decision last night. Hence, I decided to tell you, I like you, and hope that you can give me a chance."
