Chapter 3626: Gift
Chapter 3626: Gift
Jiu Xian sneered as she quipped, "The longer a person lives, the craftier they become. He’s already come up with countless answers on his own. When those don't match what people tell him, he accuses others of lying. How shameless."
Lu Yin agreed, saying, "Absolutely shameless."
Old Yu sighed and shrugged. "You two... I just lost my composure, but let's continue."
It was his turn to ask a question, and he did not want the conversation to end too soon, as that would put him at an even greater disadvantage.
Lu Yin glanced at Jiu Xian. To be honest, he did not believe her either. Had she really entered the Spirit Nidus from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse without any additional motives? That was completely impossible.
The conversation had already reached the point where it had become impossible to tell who was speaking the truth and who was lying.
While Old Yu appeared to be the one losing out the most, the old man was really quite cunning.
He thought for a moment before asking Lu Yin, "Lord Lu, how much do you know about the Nine Odysseys Megaverse?
"Be honest."
Lu Yin had already anticipated this question. "Not much, actually. There was a man by the name of Feng Bo in my Tianyuan Megaverse. He’s my enemy, and he used the battle technique of the Greater Sancti of the Nine Odysseys."
As he spoke, he made a point to observe Old Yu’s reaction, but the old man’s expression never wavered. It was clear that he was familiar with the Greater Sancti.
"At that time, I didn’t think much of it, but while dealing with the Phantom Reach in the Roaming South Realm, I saw the Codex 16 Spirit Treasure Formation. That formation somehow felt similar to Feng Bo’s Greater Sancti battle technique. More than that," Lu Yin paused as he turned to Jiu Xian. "I saw Feng Bo’s picture in Jiu Xian’s valley, which confirmed the connection. So, I tested Jiu Xian, and sure enough, I felt the same familiar sensation from her battle techniques.
"Oh, and Su Shidao told me about the existence of Codex 15."
This time, Old Yu did not dispute Lu Yin’s honesty, as this answer was perfectly reasonable. Lu Yin actually had not known about the existence of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, and he had only had a vague sense that both Feng Bo and Jiu Xian came from the same place, and that there was also some connection to Codex 15 and Codex 16. Those connections had led to the current conversation.
"That’s not all," Jiu Xian countered.
Old Yu was still staring at Lu Yin. "The Day of Offering... Is what you saw then the primary source of your suspicions, Lord Lu?"
Lu Yin nodded. "That was precisely my next question: what does that strange scene represent?"
"There’s no need to ask, Lord Lu, as I won’t answer that question," Old Yu replied.
Jiu Xian also shook her head. "I don’t understand it. It has nothing to do with me.
"Alright, now it's my turn. You already know my question."
Lu Yin replied, "Yong Heng is the ruler of my Tianyuan Megaverse’s Aeternus. As a Seraph, is it possible for you not to know about Aeternus?"
Jiu Xian thought for a moment. "Are you talking about the Aeternus that collaborated with the Spirit Nidus to work against the Tianyuan Megaverse?"
Lu Yin nodded.
Jiu Xian let out a breath. "I thought that the name sounded familiar. So, it’s him."
Suddenly, her expression grew sharp. "Are you telling me that the one who took Feng Bo from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse was Yong Heng?"
Lu Yin chuckled. "Is that your third question?"
"Fine." Jiu Xian's face flushed slightly, though a terrifying killing intent burned in the depths of her eyes.
Lu Yin shrugged. "You should come up with another question, as I don’t know that answer."
He then turned to Old Yu. "What lies past the Gate of Laws?"
"I don't know. Ask another question."
"Do you really not know, or do you just not want to answer?" Lu Yin asked.
Old Yu poured Lu Yin a drink. "Is that your revised question?"
"No." Lu Yin dismissed the idea and asked a different question. "Tell me about the Nine Odysseys Megaverse."
Old Yu chuckled. "Fully answering that question would take far too long. I can only tell you about that place’s people and events that are significant enough to influence you, Lord Lu."
Lu Yin just silently stared at Old Yu, waiting.
The old man looked up at the starry sky. "Given your strength, Lord Lu, there are very few who are able to truly influence you. Even in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, you would stand near the peak. That peak, as a whole, is what we call the Nine Odysseys.
"The Nine Odysseys consists of the 'Four Above and the Five Below.' There are four Greater Sancti and five Lesser Sancti. Their actual names cannot be mentioned, but I can tell you this, Lord Lu: the High Seraph is one of the Lesser Sancti."
Lu Yin was shocked. "Isn't the High Seraph from the Spirit Nidus?"
Old Yu nodded. "It was a gift."
Lu Yin narrowed his eyes. A gift?
What an impressive “gift.” The High Seraph, an unparalleled powerhouse who had reached the ultimate extremes of Dukkha, a supreme being who had already overpowered three different megaverses and forced the Tianyuan Megaverse to go so far as to reverse time, was actually a Lesser Sancte only because of a gift?
If the High Seraph is a Lesser Sancte, then...
Lu Yin stared at Old Yu in shock.
Old Yu’s expression turned bitter. "It appears that you’ve reached the proper conclusion, Lord Lu. There are some matters that cannot be spoken, but you are not wrong. However, when it comes to that level, those like us are forbidden from saying anything. There are things that cannot be spoken and names that must not be mentioned."
Immortals. Lu Yin believed that all four of the Greater Sancti were Immortals. Only beings with that level of power could suppress the High Seraph.
Was that really possible?
Lu Yin was not surprised to learn that the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had an Immortal. He had already started to suspect as much after seeing the giant on the Day of Offering. However, four Immortals? That defied all he had imagined.
Just Master Qing Cao alone had rendered the Tianyuan Megaverse entirely helpless, as no one and nothing could even touch him. If there are four such beings...
Lu Yin's mouth went dry as he looked up at the starry sky. Supremacy, a gift—so that was the truth.
Only Immortals could offer such a gift.
Lu Yin continued to ask, "Does your Wisdom Domain answer to a Greater or Lesser Sancte?"
Old Yu glanced at Jiu Xian, indicating for Lu Yin to ask her instead.
He turned to the woman. "On the Day of Offering, I saw a strange scene, and there was a person. Is that person a Greater Sancte?"
Jiu Xian nodded. "Yes."
"Who?"
Jiu Xian chuckled. "Even if I told you their name, would it mean anything to you?"
Lu Yin suddenly had another thought. Is Master Qing Cao one of the Greater Sancti?
He refocused on Old Yu, intending to ask another question, but the old man spoke up first. "It's my turn now.
"The High Seraph has been to the Tianyuan Megaverse, hasn’t he?"
Jiu Xian was taken aback. "The High Seraph went to the Tianyuan Megaverse?"
Lu Yin stared at Old Yu. "You've asked me this before."
"Yet you’ve never given a direct answer."
"Fine, I'll answer. Yes, he did go."
Old Yu was unfazed. "So that’s why Boundless charged into the Spirit Nidus like a moth to the flame. You don’t hate our Spirit Nidus just because of Yuan Qi, but also because of the High Seraph. However, there’s something that I just don’t understand. If the High Seraph went to the Tianyuan Megaverse and did something to earn your hatred, then how are you still alive?"
"When did the High Seraph go to the Tianyuan Megaverse?" Jiu Xian interjected.
Lu Yin turned to Jiu Xian. "A few decades before Boundless entered the Spirit Nidus."
He then turned back to Old Yu. "What does the Nine Odysseys Megaverse want from the Spirit Nidus?"
Old Yu's eyes flared. "I will not answer any such questions."
Lu Yin said, "The reason why your Wisdom Domain is ahead of the rest of the Spirit Nidus isn't because you are more intelligent, but rather because the Nine Odysseys Megaverse dictates everything in the Spirit Nidus. Whatever the Nine Odysseys decide, the Spirit Nidus must follow. Rather than saying that the Wisdom Domain sees the future, it would be more accurate to say that the Wisdom Domain is the one shaping the future.
"As for the High Seraph, in order to prevent the Spirit Nidus from completely falling under the Wisdom Domain's control, he refuses to allow your domain to have any Seraphs."
"Is that a question?"
Lu Yin shook his head. "No, that’s an answer. You don’t need to say anything. I already have a rough understanding of the current situation. Still, there is one question that I would like to ask.
"The Spirit Nidus has not reset the Tianyuan or the Consciousness Megaverses yet. Is that really because the Spirit Nidus doesn’t have enough powerful cultivators?"
During a previous conversation with Old Yu, Lu Yin had been told that the Spirit Nidus had not yet reset the Consciousness or the Tianyuan Megaverses because there were not enough powerful experts. They needed a certain number of powerhouses who could reap massive benefits from experiencing the rest of a megaverse so that the Spirit Nidus would be raised to unprecedented heights. Multiple generations had sacrificed and bided their time, willingly paying the price.
However, just now, Lu Yin had clearly seen that the previous answer was a lie.
Old Yu replied, "I cannot answer that question directly, but I can tell you one thing."
The old man hesitated to continue. Lu Yin did not rush him, and he patiently waited.
Old Yu took another sip of his wine before continuing in a low voice. "There are only three Greater Sancti, not four."
Lu Yin’s eyes instantly bulged as he understood the implications. At the same time, he also understood why Old Yu refused to believe that Jiu Xian had come to the Spirit Nidus without any ulterior motives.
The Greater Sancti were all Immortals, while the Lesser Sancti were peak Dukkhans. However, with one of the Greater Sancti missing and only three around, it was an opportunity for the five Lesser Sancti to compete for the vacant position. All they needed to do was break through to the Immortal realm.
In other words, whoever was the first to enter the Immortal realm would become the next Greater Sancte.
The High Seraph was not refraining from resetting a megaverse because he did not want to break through to the Immortal realm, but rather because he was unable to reset a megaverse while being watched by the four other Lesser Sancti.
Old Yu’s words had also answered an earlier question of Lu Yin’s. He had previously asked Old Yu if the Wisdom Domain was backed by a Greater or a Lesser Sancte. However, the old man had refused to answer the question at that time.
Lu Yin now knew for sure that Old Yu was being supported by one of the other Lesser Sancti and that there was another one behind Jiu Xian. It was precisely because both were backed by Lesser Sancti that he could not believe that Jiu Xian had come to the Spirit Nidus without some other purpose.
Both people’s goal was to help their own Lesser Sancte compete for the one opening of a Greater Sancte.
However, this answer gave rise to yet another question: what was going on with the Lesser Spirit Megaverse?
If the High Seraph truly did control the Lesser Spirit Megaverse and resetting that megaverse could allow him to become an Immortal, then why had he waited for so long? He could have broken through to the Immortal realm long ago and become a Greater Sancte.
What is he waiting for?
At that moment, yet another question popped into Lu Yin's mind: was the Lesser Spirit Megaverse really a full megaverse?
Had Yuan Qi really heard the truth?
When Boundless had first arrived in the Spirit Nidus, Lu Yin had thought that threatening to expose the existence of the Lesser Spirit Megaverse would be enough to prevent the High Seraph from taking action. If the Lesser Spirit Megaverse was truly as important as Lu Yin had believed, then how could the High Seraph have allowed Yuan Qi to simply stay in the Tianyuan Megaverse for so long?
When Lu Yin had first heard Yuan Qi’s explanation, the man had stressed the extreme importance of the Seven Seraphs. Only later had various events in the Spirit Nidus illuminated Lu Yin to the fact that the Seven Seraphs might not hold any real significance after all.
While the Seven Seraph were indeed important and their positions had to be filled, specifically who held the positions was likely unimportant.
If the High Seraph had wished it so, he could have simply gone to the Tianyuan Megaverse and killed Yuan Qi.
Despite that, Yuan Qi had survived for eons. It was a paradox.
In that case, what is the truth regarding the Lesser Spirit Megaverse?
Do Old Yu and Jiu Xian, two people from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, know of the existence of the Lesser Spirit Megaverse?
That thought prompted Lu Yin to look back at his two companions.
