Stand By Me Darling -
Chapter 455: Wedding (2)
Chapter 455: Wedding (2)
Arthur was waiting for her arrival in the Church. After much deliberation, he chose Jordan to be his best man. He tried to deny it, but he couldn’t deny the friendship they shared for almost a decade.
Jordan almost cried when he met him that day and asked him to be his best man. They had a drink together and talked. They found chatting was very easy as if the rift between them never really happened.
"There are only five minutes left the bride’s arrival," Jordan whispered in his ears. He was pretty stunned to see his former boss looking like he has lost himself. As someone who knew him better, he could see Arthur was very nervous.
"Yes," Arthur said with a smile and pressed his lips. He was holding his hands tightly, trying to control his nervousness, but he failed miserably.
His heart pounded like he was falling freely with no bottom at sight and each second seemed like an eternity. He wanted to wait by the entrance to see if she arrives, but he was required to stand in his place.
Shifting his weight from one leg to another, he looked like he was unstable. The television commentators were commenting about the ’nervous groom’, throwing in some casual roasts in their commentary, but that was only for the viewers to enjoy. Arthur was in his own world of worry.
He nervously fiddled with his sapphire cuffs which were gifted to him by his brother for his wedding. His father gifted him a motorbike and he safely kept it in the Sinclair mansion hiding it from Jerome Brunton.
Arthur was wearing a formal tailcoat suit since Iris wanted him to. And his grandpa (he was lectured an entire day by Jerome to start addressing him as ’Grandpa’ and Arthur had to comply), gifted him a brooch that had Arthur’s coat of arms.
He helped him with his tie and gave a bunch of threats in case he mistreats his precious granddaughter. But Arthur wasn’t that scared of the threats. He knew he won’t hurt Iris ever.
"You want to see a picture of her?" Lambert trotted closer to Arthur and whispered in his ears.
"...no," Arthur bowed his head. His entire focus was behind him. He was told not to look back until Talia walks closer to him, but all he wanted to do was just turn back.
"I think she ran away," Lambert added and Arthur looked up with a gasp.
"Do you see the chatters among the security? Something must have happened." Lambert built up a plot on his own.
Arthur found his heart stopped beating and his head started to spin.
"Arthur, he is lying," Jordan said clenching his teeth and nudged Lambert away.
"Shoo away, Your Royal Highness. You are just a groomsman, keep your distance."
"What a bigoted thing to say!" Lambert grumbled, "It is anti-groomsmen bigotry. Down with the Best man- chauvinism..."
As Lambert was speaking, the Bishop glared at the group of men and they all bowed their heads in unison.
----
Sitting in the car that was modified with bigger bulletproof glass with a better view of the person inside, Talia waved for the thousands of people waiting on both sides of the road.
"Grandpa, I am so nervous," she said not breaking the smile as she waved for the people waiting to have a glance at her.
"Why would you be?" Jerome chuckled. He was so happy, he couldn’t stop laughing.
"Aren’t you supposed to be crying, grandpa? Why are you laughing? Are you that happy I am leaving your home?" Talia asked and as she spoke, she realised the ridiculousness in her words.
"I know I am not leaving your house, but still... can’t you at least pretend to be sad you’re losing your granddaughter to another man?" she reframed the question.
"What another man? I’m more worried for Artie than for you," he laughed and looked around. Seeing the admiration his granddaughter receives, he was exhilarated.
Talking to her grandpa calmed Talia’s nerves. As they got near the Church, the bells started tolling to signify the arrival of the bride.
Standing inside, Arthur’s lips curved up hearing the joyful bells.
She is here!
Tali got down from the car and the one who helped her down, wearing full military dress uniform was none other than Sir Robert.
"What are you doing out in the sun?" Talia asked and he with his usual smile, helped to get the long train out of the car. She thought he was asked to stay inside the church beside Louis.
"Thank you for everything, Sir Robert," she hugged him and he froze for a moment. She wanted to thank him because there were a lot of times, he had saved her life, putting his life at risk. If not for him, she probably won’t be here.
"You’re making me cry, Your Royal Highness," his eyes got misty.
He always considered her as a daughter whether he likes to admit it or not, and her wedding is a pretty emotional event for him. And he really didn’t expect she’d hug him like this, acknowledging him as someone close to her heart, in front of everyone.
She’s lovely as always.
She stepped to the front, as her bridesmaids fixed her train. Her overzealous grandpa joined in the fun too and Talia waved to the thousands cheering out loud, waving little flags of Rosandale.
There were a thousand clicks heard as everyone snapped a picture of her dress and Talia maintained the smile on her face. She knew these people loved her and she could feel their affection in their cheerful shouts.
After making sure she waved in every direction, she walked into the Church through the red carpet, as her grandpa held her hand. As she got closer to the entrance, her heart started to pound again.
At the end of this red carpet, My Fred is waiting for me!
She tried to have a peek, but her view was blocked by the archbishop. After chatting with him for some seconds, the bridal march started playing. It was a song chosen by her great-grandmother and it’s cheerful tone as sung by the choir, was mesmerizing.
With the bridesmaids and the flower girls and pageboys following her, Talia walked through the carpet in a relaxed pace. She didn’t want to trip on her skirt and also didn’t want to strain her grandpa.
She could hear the gasps and whispers from the people sitting on the pew as they were amazed by the grandeour of her appearance.
But Talia was not caring about anyone else’s opinion and was looking at the distance for the man of her heart.
She could see him, standing tall looking to the front as he was supposed to. Her heart started to pound once again.
She carefully placed one foot in front of the other thinking that each step takes him closer to him. The surroundings decorated with English roses got blurred and the other sounds got muted.
She clutched the beautiful bouquet of assorted pink flowers. Her heart got filled with overwhelming emotions that she had never felt before, making her shake a little.
Each step will take me closer to become the wife of the man I love. With every step, I am getting closer to become the wife of the man who adores me.
Fred, I am here!
Arthur fisted his hands as he heard the beautiful music. He didn’t care much about the music, but the song was timed for her walk through the aisle and he knew at which part she’d get near him.
He took in deep breaths to calm himself down.
"Arthur, hold your breath," Jordan reeeminded him and Arthur listened. He almost hyperventilated.
Arthur was a little pissed as everyone around him was looking to their back at his Iris, but he was not allowed to. The bishop was staring at him.
As he knew she’d be halfway through, he heard a commotion from behind him. Even Lambert stood surprised with his mouth open.
What happened?
