Chapter 443: Unnecessary Expenditure?

Chapter 443: Unnecessary Expenditure?

Talia answered Cordelia and was stunned when she informed that her mother and Celine’s mother are at the Atelier for her. Remembering how distant Cordelia’s mother was when she previously met with her, Talia wondered if that was a good idea.

But it seemed like she didn’t have a say in it since she was already here and Talia believed Cordelia wouldn’t have sent her mother here if she really hated her.

With a little hesitation, she stepped back into the room and the moment she entered she was welcomed with a tight hug.

"You shouldn’t have come here alone, Talia. Oh! Were you crying? Dalia, arrange for tea right this instant!" the stern voice of her combined with care made Talia all mushy.

Celine’s mum was calm like water while being sharp in getting her point across. Cordelia’s mum was fierce as fire and apparently, Dalia was her student in the past.

Both gave their input and Cordelia’s mum was filled with delight as Talia chose to wear lace. She was still mad Cordelia preferred satin over lace.

"Isn’t the train length short? It is not even two meters. It won’t look good in the Cathedral." Cordelia’s mum was not impressed with that.

Talia put into consideration Cordelia’s train length and wanted her train to be shorter than Cordelia’s. Cordelia, at the time of getting married, was the future Queen Consort and she is the Queen Consort now. It might be considered rude to have a longer train than Cordelia since Talia is a Princess and is not a successor to the throne.

There are already comparisons made between Cordelia and her which both of them hated and she didn’t want to give them reasons to say that Talia wanted to have a longer train than Cordelia.

The journalists would get petty a lot of times and Talia didn’t want to give them the ammunition to hurt both Cordelia and her. Already some are saying Talia is trying to overshadow the rest of the Royal Family and even the King. There was even an opinion piece saying that Talia faked her own kidnapping to bring attention towards her.

She didn’t want any of that. She is vain at times but she definitely is not an attention-seeker.

"Cordelia said that you’d be considerate of her train length and would opt for a shorter train and she wanted me to make sure you have the right amount of train," Cordelia’s mum was not expecting Talia’s reply and started discussing with the designer. Celine’s mum got excited too as they talked about the length of the train.

After Talia forcefully joined in their conversation, she finally made sure her train length is the same as that of Cordelia’s. She actually saw a little disappointment in Cordelia’s mum’s face when Talia refused to go for a long train.

The designer was very excited and discussed how she is going tin incorporate silver and gold in the design and also pearls and diamonds. Celine’s mum chimed in and said that pearls are bad luck for the wedding and suggested using only diamonds.

With every detail discussed Talia figured the cost of the dress will go well over a million dollars. She asked the designer and she seemed to be not mindful of the cost.

"Just ten million dollars. We are well within the range," she said with a smile and Talia’s face twitched.

Just ten million? Just? Seriously? For one dress? Isn’t that too much for a dress I’d wear only once in my life?

"Did grandpa talk to you? How much is the budget?" Talia asked knowing her grandpa is the real culprit here.

"A billion dollars." The designer had a bright smile.

"A billion? For the wedding?" Talia was confused for a moment. "That’s less than I anticipated," she mumbled. But then she realised her grandpa wouldn’t have spoken about the wedding’s budget with the designer.

"For the dresses?" Talia’s eyes widened with surprise. "He said he’d pay you a billion dollars for three dresses?"

"No, for the wedding dress. And another billion for the reception dresses." The designer gulped seeing Talia’s unimpressed face.

"What was he thinking? Even if my dress is made entirely with platinum and covered with diamonds, it won’t cost a billion dollars. Grandpa!" Talia gritted her teeth controlling her anger.

If it was anyone else, she’d have asked if they knew how many zeros a billion has and how hard it is to earn that much money just to splurge it on a dress. But it is her grandpa. He knew the value of money and he earned every penny himself.

Why would he do that? He could have invested that money in gold or something... Or he could help a lot of people... Why waste it on a single dress?

"My wedding dress must not cost over five million and the other dresses can share five million. My entire budget should not exceed ten million." Talia said strictly and the two older women held back their laughter.

Talia decided to talk to her grandpa after she reaches home.

After leaving the atelier, Talia asked them to join her for lunch and they went for a place Mr. Ed arranged for them with utmost privacy. Talia who was not very close with older women found their world entirely different.

They talked about gardening, baking and then about random recipes. Seeing Talia’s bewilderment, they changed topics and started talking about Talia.

Cordelia’s mum revealed that she is the biggest fangirl of Talia. She told Talia the handle of her alternate account on social media. Talia recognised that name because she knew that the account owner is her staunch supporter.

So it was Cordelia’s mum all along?

They then gave Talia some advice about how to prepare for the wedding and how to prepare for the marriage. As they had experience in married life, Talia listened to their advice keenly and took mental note of everything they said.

All their advice boiled down to respect. A lot of problems can be avoided if you respect your partner whether you are a man or a woman. Where there is love, there will be respect.

They also told her not to enter her married life with a lot of expectations and plans since most of the time, it would bring disappointments. The best way is to make the best of each day.

Talia felt refreshed after talking to them and she thanked them from the bottom of her heart for coming here leaving their personal commitments. She could see they considered her as their daughter too as they advised her. She greatly appreciated it.

When Talia returned to her place, it was already evening and she was very tired. She took a long, relaxing bath and when she returned to her room she screamed from the top of her lungs.

"Fred! How come you’re here?"
