Chapter 441: Missing Her Mother
Chapter 441: Missing Her Mother
Talia had a lot of things to take care of for the wedding. She had to select a joint coat of arms to use for statements she and Arthur will release as a couple in the future that will be printed in all their stationaries.
She had a separate coat of arms as The Princess Royal and he had one as the Marquess. Upon marriage, their coat of arms will be joined representing the both of them. Although Arthur is the heir of the Oakley castle, she wanted to include the Boswell coat of arms in their joint coat of arms.
Arthur wasn’t so keen and the courtiers suggested that as the youngest son, he won’t be able to use the Boswell coat of arms. Even the well-informed courtiers found it hard to design their combined coat of arms. Usually, the conjugal coat of arms in Rosandale Royals will include the coat of arms of the four families – the paternal and maternal families of the bride and groom.
But in Talia’s case, her maternal family is Arthur’s family since he is the heir to the Bruton family. And it led to confusion.
"Didn’t the Royal family marry their first cousins until some centuries ago? What did they do?"
Talia’s question made the experts spend time in the library and they got ideas for a lot of designs.
Talia wanted to include something from his side of the family nonetheless and she talked with her father-in-law.
Gregory Sinclair found it odd that she asked him for his coat of arms. Talia explained why she needed it, and he insisted to use the coat of arms of Arthur as the Marquess. He said that the stag and ivy leaves represented the Boswell family in the past just like and Laurel and horses represent the Brunton family.
Talia only then remembered that in the coat of arms she embroidered in Arthur’s robe, the coronet of the Brunton horse was designed like stag antlers and there were ivy leaves intertwined with the laurel leaves.
It was only then she talked to her grandpa and he was very disappointed in her for not learning what the coat of arms meant before she embroidered it. He said that he wanted to represent Arthur as a Boswell, joining the Brunton family and he had made alterations to the Marquess of Ashwood coat of arms representing both of the families.
Of course, grandpa thought about it first! Grandpa never felt like he should snatch Arthur away from his family to include him in our family. Grandpa wanted to add Arthur and his family to our family. He is amazing.
"Why wasn’t it in the papers?" Talia asked. She didn’t remember the papers writing about the coat of arms of Brunton and Boswell families are united. But only after asking she realised the answer. She also realised that Arthur’s father knew about it too. "Never mind, grandpa. I love you so much."
Since when did grandpa publicise his good intentions?
"Do you have to learn about your family from the papers? MaryAnn, you should know better." her grandpa started and Talia postponed her work to listen to his lecture for an hour.
Everything was getting prepared at lightning speed since they wanted to have the wedding before summer. Talia was preparing for her wedding arrangements and half her team was working on her wedding plans while half worked for her work in Basmia as she had promised.
That day, Talia had an appointment with the designer Delia Hursy for her wedding gown. Cordelia had other engagements and Celine, who was supposed to join Talia came down with the bug and she couldn’t go with Talia.
Talia was asked by Delia Hursy to meet her in her atelier to give a basic idea about her wedding gown design. Already Vivian and Rebecca had sent Talia a lot of designs that would suit Talia’s body type. Cordelia and Celine were over the moon but wanted Talia to have full say in her wedding gown design.
After looking at various designs many top designers sent her, Talia concluded that she’d go with the design Delia Hursy sent her since it fit her style and looked comfortable.
Delia Hursy was the designer who designed Cordelia’s wedding gown and that’s what made her a famous wedding dress designer. For Talia, Dalia had researched her style and came up with a design flattering to Talia’s figure and position. And Talia trusted her enough to let her design the dress she’d be wearing on the most important occasion of her life.
Celine asked Talia to bring someone else with her and not to go alone since it is her first appointment for her wedding gown. Celine asked Talia to bring her sisters with her since she couldn’t join. But Talia felt awkward to bring women she barely knew with her and so she opted to go alone. To not hurt Celine’s feelings, she even lied and said that she is bringing Jolene with her.
Talia was only joined by Sir Robert and they were brought to the second floor secretly. The designer and the design of Talia’s dress are to be kept secret until the day of the wedding.
Mr. Ed was waiting outside the room. After the introduction of the small staff who’d be responsible for making Talia’s wedding outfit, Talia was briefed on the details of her dress and the cost of the dress.
Already a battle happened between Talia’s grandfather and Louis to determine who pays for the wedding. Both wanted to spend for the entire wedding and when Cordelia interrupted and told them to let Talia make the decision, both of them wanted Talia to choose them if she loves them.
Talia never liked to be put on the spot, and she almost wanted to say that she’ll spend her own money for her wedding. Maybe because they realised she’d say that, both of them agreed to a compromise.
All Talia’s dresses and the reception in Esteria will be paid for by her grandpa and Louis will pay for the wedding and reception in Rosandale.
With just months to her wedding, the designer was also stressed about making everything right. She had already prepared a lot and looking at the spread of various material;s in front of her, Talia was overwhelmed.
They were all white, but they were different shades. Talia knew different shades would give different effects and all shades won’t look good on her.
Which shade for the bodice?
Which material for the skirt?
How long should be the train?
How long should be the veil?
The designer started discussing the finer details. Talia felt overwhelmed by the number of decisions she had to make. She was asked to wear a number of dresses with different materials to check for the comfort level and to give an idea of how her dress would look on her.
As she was changing, she heard a mother-daughter pair arguing in the room next to her. The mother wanted the daughter to try on a ball gown silhouette dress, while the daughter wanted a mermaid-fit dress.
"It is my day and I will wear whatever I want, thanks!"
The daughter said and the mother was taking none of it. She argued since she is paying for the dress, she’d have a say in what dress her daughter wears on her wedding day.
Talia remembered how her mother used to act unreasonably just like this mother whenever she tried to buy anything for her. Talia would like to wear small jewellery, but her mother would place big bows and flowers on her head.
"I wish I never brought you with me, mum! I hate you!" the daughter said and started crying.
The mother couldn’t bear to see her daughter crying and changed her mind and let her daughter decide what dress she wants to wear.
The staff helping Talia wear the dress apologised for the noise caused by the other customers, but Talia truly didn’t mind.
Even though they are arguing, they have each other! But I... I don’t have my mother... Oh, how much would I give to have my mum here with me even if she puts me down and doesn’t care for my opinion..!
Suddenly she felt her heart feel heavy and she excused herself to go to the restroom.
