Chapter 290: The Knight’s Journal (3)
Arthur wondered if Cyrus was actually calculative in everything he did, what purpose did he have when he gave him the proof of what Ray did to that exchange student. He even asked Talia to be careful of Ray.
Were we manipulated too?
Arthur turned the pages to almost near the end. He really didn’t want to read Cyrus’ thoughts anymore. It made him feel very uncomfortable. He just wanted to read about Cyrus’ connection with Ray and lock this journal away.
There it was... The appearance of Cyrus’ beast again. During the third year of high school, Talia started spending more time with Arthur. It was at this time Cyrus had formulated many plans to make Talia return to him. He didn’t like the beast and since his Princess was the only one who can frighten the beast, he wanted her with him.
The text message Cyrus sent when he said that he had thought about ways to break Talia... It was not just lies to convince the other side.
Cyrus actually had thought about it! The exact same plan... To break her, he should make her kill him.
The beast in Cyrus wanted her to suffer and Cyrus wanted his suffering to end and in the end, both Cyrus and his beast had agreed on this plan in one of his deranged musings.
Reading it all, Arthur wondered how no one was able to see through Cyrus. He always looked confident, charming and his grandiose demeanour never made anyone doubt him.
Even Talia who was very close didn’t see Cyrus for who he was - A troubled, hurt guy with no love in his heart for anyone but him.
Yes, he said he loved Talia. But why? He wanted her to control his beast. He wanted her to be the pure deity he worshiped and adored as his princess.
But secretly he wanted to destroy her too.
Cyrus wanting Talia back for himself had formulated a plan. Of course any family is as stronger as the weakest link. For the Sinclair family, the weakest link was... Ray. And so Cyrus decided to use him.
Cyrus wanted to use Ray to bring back the feud between the Brunton and the Sinclair families. To make sure Talia and Arthur could never end up together.
Yes, he came up with a reasoning that was not selfish - His pure Princess cannot marry into the filthy Sinclair family.
When he was about to execute his plan using one of his subordinates, he heard someone advising Ray to violate Talia so that they can humiliate her family. And now Cyrus who became more alert, had a close eye on Ray afterwards.
Ray had planned to kidnap Talia and after humiliating her and recording it, wanted to release the video in the Internet so that the Brunton family won’t be able to face anyone in the future.
Arthur wondered why what Ray planned is eerily similar to what Jared Cooper did some months later, but this time there was blackmail involved and Cyrus was asked to r@pe her.
Cyrus... Cyrus hearing that plan... If only he notified the elders or even law enforcement officers, a lot of things would have been different now.
But no... Cyrus wanted Talia’s safety, but he wanted to make Ray fall in his trap.
And so, Cyrus knowing Ray had everything planned out, made sure Elizabeth Langdon who resembled Talia a lot, fell in the snares of Ray. After the party that night, he made Ray believe that Talia was waiting at a dark corner for him when it was Elizabeth Langdon who was there.
Covering her face, Elizabeth was taken to a cabin in the woods where Ray and his friends had everything prepared already. Cyrus, followed them and made sure the cameras he set up are working properly.
Everything... The tortures that poor woman went through... Cyrus mentioned in his entry that he felt nothing watching that women screaming.
It was not his Princess. So why would he care?
Midway, Ray found out that woman was not Talia, but his friends insisted to continue and so they continued... They continued till she was dead and cold. And they threw her in the woods.
Cyrus made sure he had every recording. Not once he felt like he should help the woman.
Arthur fisted his hands. Of all the words written in the journal... This made him feel an uncontrollable hate towards Cyrus.
Yeah, if he wanted, he could have gotten Ray and his friends for kidnapping with evil intent. He could have stopped them when they tore her clothes which proved their intent with her. They called that woman ’Talia’. It would have been enough to get Ray on kidnapping and attempted r@pe charges. Brunton would have made sure Ray never sees the outside world.
But no, Cyrus was watching the woman scream through his laptop.
Yes, Ray was shit and so were his friends. But Cyrus although didn’t partake in what Ray did, still is equally responsible.
Wait... Isn’t that woman Camilla’s sister? He did that to her sister and dared to say he loved her? Really?
Arthur wanted to throw the journal into the fireplace and burn it to ashes. But then he still had some doubts he wanted to clear. This incident happened months before his death. And Ray was out and about.
Father... Did father protect Ray and buried what he did?
Arthur turned the pages taking just a glance. He felt dirty holding that book in his hands.
Cyrus sent the video recordings to the authorities after the case became more raked about to give more damage. But nothing happened. Cyrus had found out that it was not Gregory Sinclair who interfered, but the Council.
At that time, Wallace Pharma was asking permission to start their industry in Esteria, but the jealous Council members didn’t want that to happen. Gregory Sinclair and the Parliament supported Wallace’s plans.
Till then the Council didn’t have anything big on Gregory. And they used this chance. They protected Ray without the knowledge of Gregory and handled the pressure from the foreign embassy inquiring about the murder of their citizen, by using the name of the President’s Office.
When Gregory Sinclair found out about the exploitation of his name by the Council members, he was notified of his son’s deed and how the Council buried it. Cyrus wrote that nothing would come out of it anymore.
But Arthur could deduct what happened then. The Council members knew that this will bring Gregory down if made public. No oe will believe that it was not his father who buried what Ray did. It would be the biggest corruption with the public believing that his father protected his son who cruelly r@ped an exchange student.
His father would have been too distraught. The Council must have coerced his father to stay silent or they will replace the President to someone they prefer. And so the Council made his father to be their puppet.
Those immoral pricks!
Arthur Closed the journal rubbing his forehead. He felt like screaming knowing everything happened. He was glad he killed his brother. If he didn’t, Ray would have tried to do the same thing to Talia until he succeeded.
So, did Cyrus pass me the proof of Ray’s wrongdoing to bring it to public since it was buried by the Council?
Arthur opened the journal once more. Surprisingly the very few pages of the journal had a very clear handwriting as if it expressed the mentality of the one who wrote it.
It was the Arrival of Camellia Langdon.
Cyrus got closer to her to spy on her. But by his words, he fell for her. He wrote how the beast was sent to hell by Camilla, the Heavenly flower. She was much brighter than his Princess even.
By now Cyrus had accepted how Talia was really happy with Arthur and he was happy with Camilla.
He who didn’t sleep with virgins and the same woman twice, made Camilla his girlfriend. She was a flower that bloomed in a dark valley, to bring happiness to his dark heart.
But she kept on digging to her sister’s death. He fed her informations and watching her cry thinking of her sister... Cyrus felt some feeling foreign to him.
Guilt.
He knew she was his salvation, but he knew of she stayed here longer, she’d find out all the truth and the truth was her now boyfriend is responsible for her sister’s ill-fate.
And later were his musings on how to get away from the feelings in his heart. He mentioned how his Princess was so in love with Arthur, yet holding back knowing her love won’t succeed.
And so he made the toughest choice.
He wanted to fix everything.
He broke up with Camilla after explaining how Ray won’t be touched by the Council and she left brokenhearted.
He still felt bad for his Princess who was holding back her love and so he wanted Arthur to build a good relationship with Brunton. He knew Arthur would try to bring his brother to justice and he will talk what Ray did to that poor woman to Talia and they will get Brunton’s help and so he passed the information to Arthur.
When his Princess mentioned he might have a child, he felt an indescribable joy and in his joy, he tried to contact Camilla, but she refused to talk to him.
He made a to-do list which was the last entry of his journal.
1. Help my Princess get together with Arthur Sinclair.
2. Leave Esteria.
3. Get back Camilla.
4. Start a family and live happily ever after.
Arthur closed the journal. He wasn’t that convinced that Cyrus would have went through his to-do list with the ’beast’ still active. But he died before he did anything and no one will know of Cyrus meant it or not.
Would he have really left Talia and leave Esteria? He didn’t plan to tell Camilla the truth about his responsibility in her sister’s fate.
Yes, he was selfish still and wanted Camilla...just like he wanted Talia by his side.
His attraction turned from Talia To Camilla.
But then, he didn’t want to destroy Talia. He wanted to leave her living happily.
Was he really a psychopath?
Arthur couldn’t say. Cyrus’ life story seemed like the script of a very artsy anti-hero movie that would have bagged Oscars if done by the right kind of talented people.
He decided not to care about Cyrus.
But the thing that bothered him...
The one who advised Ray... Who is he? How did he come up with the same plan as Jared Cooper?
