Stand By Me Darling
Chapter 256: Not Everyone’s Lucky as Her

Chapter 256: Not Everyone’s Lucky as Her

"You still have this wine?" Lambert asked looking at the wine he gifted her when she was in A Country.

"I was saving it," Talia got the bottle from his hands and poured herself a glass.

"Will this wine even go well with the pudding?" Lambert asked, opening a beer bottle for himself.

"I don’t care. I like them both separately and so I’d like them together too..." Talia didn’t wait to elegantly stuff her mouth with the pudding and took a sip of the wine and nodded as she really enjoyed it.

"My ex-girlfriend and I broke up for this wine, you know..." Lambert said staring at Talia who silently ate the pudding as a she’d been starving for a month. But she still held the etiquettes and it was weird for him to watch. She looked common and yet dignified.

Can’t she be one? Either an average girl or a dignified noble girl? What an odd species!

At first he was very depressed and salty to know that she is his cousin when he wanted to marry her. He just fell in love with her picture, her beauty and grace she exuded in that picture. He fell in love with a caricature of what he assumed she is as a person. The personality traits he gave her.

But now... The more he got to know her, the more he realised that she is not the type of woman he’d be dating. First love or crush... Whatever it was, he was glad he get to know her a lot better as his cousin. She is not a very bad person to get along with, but she is just not his type.

Haha... Falling in love at first sight is not for everyone, right? Sometimes the reality turns out to be entirely different and the person is not who you think they are.

"You’re saying that you believed her when she said the reason she is dumping you was because you gave a bottle of wine to me?" Talia couldn’t believe how naive Lambert is to believe that girl’s words. Even if that girl was that materialistic, who’d be willing to lose billions of riches for a bottle of wine?

And if that is not the case, which woman in her right mind will dump her boyfriend just because he gave a bottle of wine to his cousin? There should be more to it and maybe this wine was the one the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

"Who said she dumped me?" Lambert took a bite from the pudding. "Mmm...it’s not that bad for a chocolate dish," he nodded his head.

"Aww, you.... This is sacrilegiousl! How can some illiterate snob like you who hates chocolate, eat and waste this?" Talia pulled the pudding closer to her and Lambert rolled his eyes.

She really acts like she’s never seen a dessert before in her life! What a yucky woman!

But it is interesting. Most of people who doesn’t know her well and not so close with her, love her since she shows only part of her persona to them; a charming and graceful Princess. But she shows her true form only to people whom she considers are close to her. And you’d accept her for who she is.

What a woman! Glad she is my cousin. If not, who’d want to get tangled in a complicated relationship with this woman?

" So you’re saying, you dumped her for this wine? Why? " Talia asked after finishing the pudding. She didn’t want to leave out anything, in case Lambert steals again. The pudding was heavenly like it was made for gods. This bakery is really famous for the right reasons.

So the wine was the last straw for Lambert? "Wait... Did you give me the wine you bought for her? " Talia asked with her eyes wide, taking a sip from the wine. It may make a girlfriend angry, if her boyfriend gives what he promised for her to be given to his cousin.

"And you still aren’t putting it down, considering me, who broke up just weeks ago!" Lambert stared at the glass in her hand.

What an insensitive monkey!

"Why should I be considerate towards you? I didn’t force you to give this to me..." Talia swirled the glass and with a smile took another sip. It seemed like he didn’t want to talk about it. "After what you put me through this morning, I think this is nothing."

Lambert sighed. So he was right when he thought she is mad at him. She really snubbed him that morning and left without even turning back.

" I know I brought you there, and I should have kept you safe... Asher isn’t a close friend of mine and I... No one thought that he’d behave that way towards you. Even you thought his badgering was nothing and didn’t complain after he harassed you, after your open rejection. And if you felt sick, you could’ve called for me and I definitely would have brought you back safely. I agree I’m not a very attentive person by nature and gets distracted often, but-"

" Yeah, yeah... I know. Once you were interested in the hunt, you forgot about me. I understand. " Talia although tried to not blame him, still had the tone that she was blaming him. " Learn from this and be careful on choosing the people around you. I almost lumped you with him and thought you treat women the same way as him. "

" No way! "Lambert raised his voice as he felt offended. How would he treat any woman like that? " How can you judge me by what he did?"

" Can you blame me, Lambert? Friends are the people you have a lot in common with and you spend a lot of time with them. Was I wrong to assume that his hobbies interest you too?"

Lambert was stunned to say anything. Many people have advised him the same and he refused to see the truth in it. Could everyone be right?

" Talia... I’m that way... I don’t care what my friends do in their spare time, but you’re right. I will take that into consideration in the future. Maybe my lack of care, led to them believing they can hurt my family. I can be a careless person, Talia. My previous girlfriends have broken up with me saying I’m not caring enough for them. I don’t know how to change me. I tried to be attentive, but I fail. I can only concentrate on one thing at a moment. It’s a flaw of mine." Lambert opened up his heart. His friends who are mostly men would laugh if they heard what he is saying, calling him weak, but he wanted to know a female’s perspective in this. He can’t be single forever.

Talia holding the glass in her hand, looked at him for a moment. He must be still a little tipsy to open up to her.

"Everyone has character flaws, Lambert. As much as many say, not all flaws can be worked upon and rectified. Some flaws stays with us no matter how hard we try to correct it. If you think you’re not that attentive, maybe you can work on it. Maybe you haven’t found the right woman on whom you can pour your care on... Or maybe it is a flaw that cannot be rectified. In that case, you’ll have to find a woman, who doesn’t need your attention much and has her own things to do rather than waiting for you 24/7. Didn’t you date only socialites till now? Maybe a working woman would be better? Still, you’ll have to put in some efforts in a relationship, you know... "

As she was speaking Talia herself realised that she didn’t put that much effort in her relationship till now. All she did was making calls and nothing more. They haven’t been on a single date till now. And they slept together once. She decided to do something about it. Although she refused to acknowledge it, she knew she wasn’t content just talking to him.

"You know who I am right?" Lambert said taking a sip from the bottle. " I’m a Prince and my wife cannot be doing her own thing after marrying me. She needs to play second fiddle to me, doing what is asked of her from the family. I, as someone born into this family, know my responsibilities. How can I expect her to accept everything being in this family entails and my quirks alongside? "

Talia could only sigh. She could understand exactly what Lambert means. The life of a Royal isn’t all designer clothes, smiling and waving from a balcony, fame and fortune.

He might not say it aloud, but his wife not only needs to play second fiddle to him, but also to her, Cordelia and Louis although they all are from the same family. They all are members of the sane family, but Lambert’s wife will be the bottom of the totem pole although they are from the same family.

Not to mention the media and public scrutiny that comes from being a public figure. That could become very unbearable most of the times. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, you’ll be damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

That kind of life is not something everyone can understand or accept and live with. It needs someone with great self-assurance to take on that role and do it impeccably.

They have to be self-assertive and not self-loathing or without confidence, since they won’t survive a day without confidence in this place. They would be extremely unhappy just following their ’shiny’ spouse around. It won’t be a good family life when both are not equal. They will have to maintain appearances and life would be hell on earth. She can’t imagine Lambert not having a happy life. Everyone deserves happy life.

She is lucky she got Fred. Not everyone will be that lucky.

"You’ll find someone... Keep on searching." Talia clinked her glass with his bottle and took a sip. Lambert smiled back and took a sip too. Although she wasn’t much helpful, he felt a lot lighter after he spoke to her.
