Stand By Me Darling
Chapter 240: Dinner Together

Chapter 240: Dinner Together

These are his rational thoughts. He didn’t know why Iris said what she said. Did she say that out of her overwhelming emotions, or is it her rationale?

If it is her rational decision, does she still thinks she needs more punishment?

"Let’s cross that bridge together then. It’s a promise."

For Arthur, Talia’s decision seemed as over-compensation. He personally won’t let her do anything too much. But if that is her decision and she insists, he won’t let her face it alone. He’d stand by her side and help her get through this.

Arthur’s gentle voice that gave her another promise, made Talia freeze for a moment. He doesn’t think twice before he gives his promises, right? How valuable are his promises then?

But then why does this promise give me so much courage?

"I’ll hold you to that," she smiled. Suddenly she felt like she could face anything that awaits her when she faces Lord Lockhart.

And she wasn’t sure how much he thinks before promising her anything, but she knew he will try his best to keep that promise.

He held his promise that he will come for her and he did, didn’t he?

Talia felt like the dark clouds surrounding her heart, making her gloomy got blown away by a gust of wind after his reassuring promise. The sun peeked back in and the little birds chirped, making her heart merry.

"My great grandmother gifted me a car... A very expensive armoured car!" she felt like bragging and her nose pointed to the sky as she sat straight in the recliner. "It has a very private and very cozy setting and it’s like I’m driving in my little apartment...." she went on bragging.

Arthur could only chuckle from the other end. His woman has started to act silly she must be happy now.

"What was your meeting with your great grandma about?" Arthur asked. She was too busy she couldn’t answer her phone.

"I thought she wanted to talk to me about something. But we just had our afternoon meal together with my grandpa. Great grandma made grandpa stay near her too. And later those two had some secrets to share..." Talia leaned back comfortably and fixed the stray hairs falling on her forehead. "I wonder what they talked about.."

"Haha..." Arthur couldn’t help but laugh by the tone she spoke. What else would they talk other than about her? This woman gets silly at times. And she considered a casual lunch as a meeting? She doesn’t feel that close to her great grandmother, right? "Maybe they found each other attractive and will start dating in the future. I should hurry up. Otherwise the next Royal wedding would be your great grandma’s... ", he laughed.

"Oh, wash your mouth with soap, Fred! Why did you say that? How can those two marry? Great grandma is older than grandpa by two decades and she is the most stern person I know. She won’t fall in love! And how could grandpa fall for great grandma? Women much younger than her have failed in seducing my grandpa. Grandpa has much stronger resolve. " Talia couldn’t help but cringe thinking of her Grandpa and great grandma together.

Arthur on the other hand, felt like he had found gold in making her feel cringe. His little wife seemed to be very against this issue. It is understandable what she thinks about her Grandpa. Even he had seen some women not so older than him trying to seduce Jerome, but failed miserably. And it is true the Dowager Queen won’t have her second spring in her nineties, but still... Her reaction made him want to tease her more. "Age is just a number... In front of love nothing is-"

"Oh, shut up Fred!" Talia shouted at Arthur who was laughing out loud. She couldn’t understand how he could just laugh about such an important matter.

Arthur couldn’t stop laughing as he imagined her face. The more he laughed, the more she got agitated and barked back at him.

"Have you had your dinner?" Arthur asked, his face red with all the laughing.

"No!" Talia got reminded of dinner only then. It was already half past eight and since he asked, she felt hungry. "Have you?"

"Not yet." Arthur stood up. "Ask them to bring your dinner to your bedroom. Let’s have dinner together.."

Talia smoked realising what he meant.

This is fun!

Talia sent away all her staff and sat by the small balcony she had in her bedroom with a lit candle. Her phone with an ongoing video call with Arthur was placed on the table, opposite her.

Arthur was sitting in the sitting area of his bedroom beside the fireplace and had his dinner.

Both of then just talked about mundane things and laughed as they ate. Although they didn’t have much special dishes that night, and were miles apart, that dinner had the feels like they were on a date in a very upscale restaurant.

The Dinner lasted for more than two hours with them talking. They purposefully avoided talking about the Council meeting and everything else that happened that day. Nothing is decided yet and it would do then no good if they kept on worrying. Only after the final decisions are made, they could do something.

Their talks spanned from Arthur’s favourite sports team to everything else he does for entertainment. Talia was surprised when she learnt that he is spending a lot of time with his brother’s family these days. Hearing his annoyed storied about his nephew and niece, she felt content. He really seemed happy and watching him happy, she felt happy too.

After the dinner Talia went for a bath and Arthur didn’t want to disconnect the call. Talia placed her phone in a discreet place when she got in the tub and only let him see her when she was immersed in the water making him very disappointed.

He begged for a while for a peek, but Talia the ever careful person she is, didn’t want to share her most vulnerable state using any technologies.

Who knows who might be hacking who?

Of course Arthur understood her thoughts and didn’t force her to after asking for a couple of times. He always can have her in person.

"I had the old bed replaced with a new horsehair bed!" Talia said as she laid on the bed. She couldn’t help but giggle as she bounced up and down on the bed, lying down. The castle always had beds stuffed with layers of horsehair which she was used to back in her grandpa’s home too. Back in her apartment she had a simple memory foam bed, which she wasn’t a big fan of.

Horsehair beds are the best!

"I bought a new bed for us here too..." Arthur’s eyes had a very sharp glint as he watched her bouncing on the bed.

As she bounced, her blossom was dancing along with her bounce and that red silk nightgown she wore only made her little peaks look more tempting.

Arthur gulped controlling his thoughts wandering to the lands of carnal desire. He didn’t want to rain on her parade now. She seemed so happy just chatting with him and he wanted to make sure she gets to sleep happily.

Both of them chatted for a while and Arthur watched her going to sleep as he played her a song from the piano in his room. She looked so peaceful as she slept and she even smiled when he played her favourite tune for her.

After watching her for a while, he felt sleepy and he went to sleep too.

He just wished she was near him so that he’d hug her to sleep. But tonight... It seemed magical too.

The next day, Talia was greeted by Lambert and he asked her to join him in his engagement with the ’military lads’ as he put. Prince Lambert, with his sharp shooting skills served in the military and he even rose to the rank of Captain and many of the charities he was a patron of were related to military and veteran related.
