Stand By Me Darling -
Chapter 228: Ramble of the Disturbed
Chapter 228: Ramble of the Disturbed
Everyone stepped away from the little woman who seemed to be lost her sanity fearing they might actually get stabbed.
"Lucky charm..." she laughed. "Arthur, I am your lucky charm. Remember that match when you scored the highest points in your life... You looked at me before making every shot. You forgot but I remember. I am your lucky charm. You cannot leave me..." with the knife in her hand, she slowly walked towards Arthur.
Her steps weren’t steady as she was only wearing shoe in one of her foot and she had a very disturbing smile plastered on her face. She didn’t wear the other shoe she dropped and she didn’t remove the other show either. Wearing a high heeled shoe in one feet and nothing on the other, she walked towards Arthur.
Arthur felt his heart beat quickening. He wasn’t frightened, but he knew she might bring trouble to him even if she is the one who got hurt in the end. No one would give video evidences on his behalf from here.
"No!" he said adamantly. He didn’t care for her feelings. He thought by being truthful, she would give up. Or is she even sane now?
"I never liked you. I was open with you from the first day about that. I still tried to keep my word to the Council. In the end, I couldn’t betray my heart. You knew-" Arthur talked in a way to not antagonise her.
"Ahhhh, noooooo! Is it because of that s*ut Talia? You know she slept with many men, right? She won’t be a perfect match for you. But I will..." with her eyes wide, she hurriedly walked towards Arthur and Arthur took a step back.
"Don’t mind her talking about Lady Talia. My daughter just loves you so much. She did everything for you. She even betrayed me for you. How many evidences against me did she collect for you? She loves you deeply. Please consider her... I’m begging as a father...."
Lord Clairmont started begging as he passed Sophia and walked towards Arthur.
Stupid b*tch! What if he had an affair or two? Wouldn’t it be enough that she’d be the one with the title of his wife? How much of an idiot is she? And to make passes at Jordan? Who is he? He’s just rich and someone with no title. What did she think?
Useless!
In fact he was at his wits end. Now that even the King has accepted him as the next Duke of Oakley, how could he let Arthur go? And with the big mess his daughter made...
His brain started working like never before. Maybe it was the adrenalin, but he realised a lot of things.
The voting... The plans they made... Everything worked against them. He wondered where it all went wrong and why they thought that what Jerome did was treason, why they thought that Talia was exiled and also why they thought Jerome’s properties would be nationalised if he was exiled.
Ah... The media! They got everything from the media. They always wrote stories after stories about under what conditions the Northern Star can be nationalised. And they read that treason can make Brunton get exiled. They wrote how everyone hated Talia for taking the title from Rosandale. They wrote how Lord Lockhart is still devastated by the loss of his eldest son.
And so they thought by pushing Jerome to yearn for his granddaughter, they can achieve it - The big prize; The Northern Star.
But it failed.
Talia never was exiled. They thought she was!
Lord Lockhart was not that devastated by Cyrus’ death.
Did he even love his son? Who’d compare their dead son to a dog?
But one thing is for sure. All of them were played. Played by the media.
He looked at Lord Reiley and Lord Brenner. They seemed to be have realised it all now. He wanted them to help him, but he knew they won’t.
Why would they help his daughter get Arthur? And coming to topic again...
All these wrong calculations... Who controls the media?
Lord Clairmont looked at Arthur looking at his phone.
Is he recording again? Is he recording my daughter’s mental breakdown too? That scum!
And why did he agree to the engagement?
Ah... She was stupid. She was deluded and thought she loved him and he used her.
It was all her fault! This useless b*tch! She said that he was over the moon for her and he never doubted him.
All the evidences he had against me... It should have been this b*tch who gave him all the details.
This useless...
Arthur looked at Lord Clairmont with no expression in his face. He looked like he took none of it. He looked like he didn’t care.
This little...!
"But who will marry me now? You exposed me!" Sophia gritted her teeth. " I want riches... I want position... I want the title of Duchess! I deserve it! Who else can give that to me other than you?" she spoke gasping as her chest heaved up and down.
Arthur smiled at Lord Clairmont.
There goes your narrative that she came behind me for me; that she loved me. Hmm...
"Lord Wallace’s son will marry you and give you everything you need, Lady Sophia."
Arthur took in a deep breath controlling his urge to laugh and spoke calmly. He could only depend on Lord Wallace now. When everyone else stood silent, only he stood up and he won’t be stopped from leaving. He wanted to leave.
" But - " Lord Clairmont looked at Lord Wallace with his eyes filled with expectations. He needed someone by his side now.
" My son likes barely legal boys. He won’t like to marry a woman," Lord Wallace said and walked forward.
There were some snickers coming from the other Lords. Surely everyone knows that Archibald Wallace sleeps with any girl. And to escape the fate of letting his son marry this lunatic, Lord Wallace is willing to call his son gay?
But then, who would want their son to marry.... This?
"Drop the knife, Lady!" Lord Wallace spoke in an authoritative way. Sophia turned to see Lord Wallace and her empty eyes got fixed on him.
"I don’t want to marry anyone but Arthur. Will you not let me marry Arthur? Did you not know he is my husband?" she cocked her head to the side. The ribbon like strands of her hair, falling on her face, swayed by her breath as she spoke.
"Are you going to stop your daughter or going to make this a big issue?" Lord Wallace with his gritted teeth asked Lord Clairmont.
His sons won’t even think of acting this way in the public fearing his whip. And Clairmont lets his daughter wave knife at others?
Spare the rod and spoil the child. Isn’t that the truth? This young Lady needed some discipline growing up. But then what does he know? His youngest son became a drug addict. His eldest son still hasn’t settled down and he is in his mid-thirties.
What is the right way to raise kids anyway?
Lord Wallace looked at Arthur.... That’s one fine boy. His brother Roderick is great too although Ray was the worst.
Hmm... Raymond... How did he die exactly?
His eyes wandered to Arthur. Did he really kill his brother? Whatever! He still is impressive.
Sinclair raised his two boys right. Lockhart too... He couldn’t control Cyrus, but Cyril turned out fine. And the McAllister kids... Everyone of them are impressive. How did he raise his kids?
Lord Clairmont looked at Lord Wallace who was in deep thoughts. Lord Clairmont had nothing to say. He looked defeated.
Sophia who was waving the knife at Lord Wallace was tackled by Lord Wallace’s assistant. Lord Clairmont still was unmoving as the assistant scuffled with Sophia and she started to screech once more. That assistant seemed to have good techniques and he got the knife from Sophia’s hands pretty easily.
"Mental health issues should not be taken lightly, Lord Clairmont," Arthur said as he walked out to leave. " Your daughter needs professional help."
"You piece of sh*t! Stop right there! You pushed her to this and you’re advising me? Mental health issues? Why do you know about it? And what right do you have to advice me, you murderer? Did you receive treatment after killing your brother?" Lord Clairmont shouted and Lord Reiley and Lord Brenner felt like they finally saw an oasis in desert.
A murderer! Right, we all accused Talia as a murderer. But we know Arthur is a murderer too. What was Jerome thinking when he announced Arthur as his heir? Ha... Haha!
Arthur fisted his hands. It is a scar in his heart but he had dealt with it himself. He didn’t regret what he did. If he is put in such situation one more, he would do the same.
He knew they would bring it up. They use that as a Blackmail material against his father this long, after all. But he thought these guys would bring it up sooner when the King was here.
Did these poor guys forget to bring it up earlier because they were stunned?
"Stop calling everyone murderer, Lord Clairmont. If you had proof, go to the police station and file a complaint. Or if you have the power, form an investigative commission to investigate Raymond Sinclair’s death. Or else, you’ll be facing me in court for slandering. I know lawyers; very powerful ones, and a lot of money I can squander away. So... Mind your words," his tone was deep and threatening and Lord Clairmont took a step back subconsciously.
