Chapter 62: -Driving Lesson-
Waking up, Max immediately noticed the absence of the warmth and plumpness that had once enveloped him. Grumbling, he rubbed his eyes and glanced down at his stark naked body. With a confused frown, he sat up, silently scanning for his clothes. Thankfully, they were placed, or rather, dumped, on the couch.
Squeezing his face into a deeper frown, he took in his surroundings, slowly pulling on his shorts as a dull pang throbbed in his head.
’Huh? So that’s what happened.’
As memories of last night with Mrs. Dalia resurfaced, his brows furrowed, then slowly relaxed.
’How long was I out? She is probably long gone by now.’ With that thought, he began , rubbing his forehead.
But just as he was about to move, the sound of dragging footsteps reached his ears. His body tensed, and his gaze snapped toward the lounge.
Though relieving his alarmed heart, he was left confused by the sight of his sister gazing down at him with surprise etched on her face. Far from her usually cold look, she actually turned and scurried away.
’Uh?’
Unable to tell what was wrong, he glanced down at his clothes, confusedly- only to realize a moment later.
’Wait- wasn’t she away earlier?’ He then thought back to her missing fluffy slippers from where she usually kept them, his adventure with Mrs Dalia- and how they both slept on the couch bare.
’Also- those loud screams... did she hear them?’ at these thoughts, his head lost all of its functioning ability. As blank as a white sheet, he glanced at the lounge , the exact spot his sister stood before scurrying back.
Then it clicked...
’Her reaction- no wonder.’
’Let’s just say she never heard most of it.’ with that he went up to his room wanting to have a fresh bath before pondering on anything else.
...
The last day of the weekend arrived.
"Ding! Dong!"
Max, dressed in a fresh pair of shorts and a shirt, strode down the stairs. A little sense of premonition in his heart at who it was as he reached for the door.
’As expected.’
"Hi." ." A short nervous greeting reached him.
Standing right outside the door was Talia.
For a moment Max wondered why he hadn’t thought of ignoring the bell first. At least on her first five tries like she had done to him.
"Hm." He gave a curt nod, his gaze flickering down at her outfit.
She was wearing a less baggy shirt than her usual, covering up just her ass. The denim bum shorts she wore could be well seen, leaving her slender thighs exposed. And a pair of pink fluffy slippers on her feets.
Surprisingly, after noticing his surveying eyes. There was no hint of disdain in her eyes like she always did.
Instead appearing to have purposefully held back.
"My mom said it would be around the estate, so I dressed like this." she muttered, as if in explanation. Then, without further delay, she stretched out her hand. "Here. Her car key."
Thud.
The door shut in her face.
"Rude bitch."
Max stood there for five seconds before pulling the door open again. Without a word, he grabbed the key from her hand and walked off toward the SUV parked at the next building.
...
"This is... " He started.
"Oh, thanks. I read all about that." She cut him off mid-sentence, casually adjusting her seatbelt.
’Right, you aren’t that dumb to not have looked it up.’
"Well then, why don’t you take the steering wheel yourself?" he shot back, voice laced with sarcasm. Turning to her, he raised both hands in mock surrender, a cold frown settling on his face.
Silence...
She looked like she wanted to argue, but in the end, she simply tossed her hair back with a flick of her fingers and folded her arms across her chest, unknowingly pressing them together, making the outline of her bra more noticeable.
Great.
"Pervert." She muttered, feeling his gaze settle on her chest.
`Shit. I fucked up.’
He wanted to facepalm but instead just sighed.
"Yeah? And you’re still stuck on something that happened years ago?" He raised a brow, daring her to continue.
"You’re the pervert! Who the hell sneaks up on someone changing their swimsuit?" She shot back, wide-eyed, tilting her head in a challenging ’Yeah, explain that’ gesture.
Intrigued in his heart, Max let his gaze sweep over her before shaking his head.
"Come on... you were just a kid back then. You didn’t even have these." Max’s voice was casual, but the lazy wave of his hand, gesturing vaguely at her chest and thighs, made his words land differently.
Silence.
Talia’s breath hitched. Her eyes widened, shock flashing across her face before being quickly replaced by something darker. Her jaw tightened as if she wanted to bite out a response, but her lips only parted slightly before pressing into a firm line. "What... what do you mean?"
The moment the question left her mouth, red spread across her skin. The blush creeping up her neck deepened as she clamped her mouth shut, suddenly self-conscious. Turning away, she sank back into her seat, her arms crossing over her chest as she shifted her gaze to the windshield.
As expected.
Max smirked to himself, though he kept his expression neutral. He feigned a clueless look, watching her from the corner of his eye before shaking his head lightly and gripping the steering wheel again.
’The best way to win an argument with a woman? Turn her own words into compliments.’
He thought to himself as smoothly steered the car forward, allowing the quietness to settle between them.
Neither of them spoke as he began, demonstrating the basics of handling the SUV. Despite it being an automatic, there were some things online tutorials wouldn’t teach her, things she needed to feel out for herself.
As they neared the far end of the estate, Max finally pulled the car to a slow stop and switched seats with her. Talia hesitated for a split second before sliding into the driver’s seat.
Max didn’t say anything, just pulled open the passenger door and settled in. He reclined slightly, his sharp gaze watching her every movement with quiet amusement.
The ignition lights flickered on as the car rumbled to life.
She exhaled sharply, her fingers tightening around the wheel in an inexperienced manner. Max quietly observed her every action.
After a quick double-check, she pressed the accelerator.
The SUV inched forward, slow and careful.
For the next minute, things seemed to be going smoothly, until the car suddenly jerked to a halt.
’Huh?’
Max frowned, glancing at her as she rapidly pressed the ignition button.
Nothing.
Fifteen seconds passed, and the silence in the car grew heavier.
Finally, Talia turned to him, the slightest trace of uncertainty clouding her expression. "Um... can I have your phone?" Her voice was quieter now, almost reluctant. "I need to call my mom." Her fingers twitched slightly in her lap, her confidence from earlier now replaced by a hesitant sort of frustration.
’Okay, so you need my phone, huh?’ Max thought to himself as he reached for his pocket, only to realize he was wearing shorts.
"I don’t have it with me," he replied, gesturing to his empty hands.
Under Max’s lead, they both stepped out of the car. He lifted the bonnet, attempting to check for any visible issues, but the tightly secured lid and firmly locked components made it impossible to tinker with anything. With a sigh, he shook his head and gave up.
Just then...
