Chapter 112: - Amber -
Vroom!
Revving the engine one more time, Caster — as he was being hailed — got out of the car in a victorious manner.
Meanwhile, the other youth driving the Porsche could only grit his teeth and hit the bonnet of his car.
"I told you, man."
"Shut up!"
The heated argument finally had a conclusion.
After the duel, other cars were driven to the center.
A Ferrari and a Lamborghini — Max had no clue of the specific models. Shaking his head out of bored interest, he noted there were several activities he was yet to witness, so he continued exploring.
Soon after, he found an ongoing burnout contest, two cars screeching their tires on one spot to see who burns out first.
Walking away due to the smell of burning rubber, Max spotted a dance floor. A big clearing, with disco.
The blasting music now changed to a seductive, slow-paced hit song.
Girls could be spotted twerking their asses towards the guys’ groins. Some guys pulled them so close, grabbing a mold of their ass or waist, while dancing to the slow music.
Couples or not, some already began exchanging heated kisses and smooching. There were scenes of both genders leaving the dancefloor together.
Bringing the cup to his lips, Max took a sip, sweeping the various hidden activities with his gaze.
And when he was about to withdraw, his eyes settled on a particular figure looking to be in distress.
Furrowing his brows, he found her outfit to be strangely familiar.
With no concern, he lowered his cup and prepared to walk to his next destination when their eyes met.
The girl in distress, turning around like she was searching for a particular someone, beamed with relief as their eyes met.
Beaming with relief, she rushed towards him and wrapped him in a tight hug.
’ugh?’ caught by surprise, Max felt a hostile gaze before he could react.
A guy in a black button-up shirt, gold pieces decorating his neck, was looking at him. Removing his cuffs, the guy pushed up his sleeves to reveal his striking star tattoos, the rough ink crisscrossing his forearms like scars from another life, before walking forward.
"Please help me, I told him you’re my boyfriend," ushering in a pleading whisper, she clung onto him tighter.
Glancing down at her body over him, he raised his head to see the approaching guy.
’Didn’t you call me a jerk?’
Untightening her arms clasped around him, he separated and took a step backward, catching a look of her flushed cheeks in embarrassment.
*Next time, be good cultured and control your mouth.* Remembering that she had been the one to start up a conversation and cursed for taking a look at her appearance, he didn’t like the thought of being used for free.
"Please..." more like a whimper, he heard her voice. Making him look at the approaching figure, he stepped forward.
As much as he didn’t want trouble or standing up for an unknown girl, the humanity within took charge.
Seeing him stretch out his guard behind her back, the approaching guy kept on walking forward and was finally before him. Coming to a halt, he was half a head shorter than Max, so the threatening aura seemed much like a façade instead.
"Are you her boyfriend?" the guy said with a rugged tone, as if taunting him.
"What do you want?"
From the voice, Max could tell that the guy was well older than him, maybe 20. Deciding not to show any nerdy or green-haired trait, he didn’t reply politely, showing a cold face.
"Ok."
Unexpectedly, the guy’s hostile look disappeared and he walked away. Causing Max to scrunch his brows in surprise.
"Thank goodness." Behind him, the girl let out a relieved breath and her tensed shoulders fell.
"Are you good?" With a bewildered expression, Max nudged her shoulders.
"Thanks." Turning, she revealed a happy smile.
"Oh Cousin! Here you are. I have been searching for you."
At the call of the voice, Max turned and spotted Blake walking towards him with a smug expression, like he was about to do him a favor.
Behind him, he also noticed a familiar figure composedly tagging along.
"Look, I brought you an acquaintance from..." Suddenly, Blake seemed to choke on his drink, and gawked at the stunning figure beside Max in surprise.
"Amber?"
---
Meanwhile, not far from the scene, Blake scanned the crowd, scowling.
’Where the hell is that fucker?’ Imagining Max’s cool, silent look, Blake huffed slightly and was about to turn and tell Andrew that it was fortunate that his cousin had left when he spotted Max standing up for a girl against a guy with tattoos.
’Quite the evil look,’ he thought, wishing they would exchange blows. However, the latter seemed to compromise and walked away.
’What a weak bastard.’ Blake thought before walking towards the scene. Seeing the dovey scene Max nudge the girl, he was further thrilled by the thought of leaving him in embarrassment and ruining his cool look.
However, as he called out to him with the facade of linking him up, his words were instantly caught in his throat as the girl behind Max turned. Their eyes met and he couldn’t help but call out her name—
"Amber?" A popular girl in his school who he’d long admired, hoping one day they would get in touch and then try to court her.
However...
"Who are you?"
At her question, Blake’s face visibly paled to a dark shade of deep embarrassment. She didn’t even know him.
And her expression... it was as if she was on guard against him as being a stalker.
Seeing Blake’s lost look, Max glanced at both of them before speaking up for him.
"He’s my cousin," Max revealed to the guarded girl, since Blake seemed too embarrassed to explain himself.
"Oh— I’m sorry." Revealing an apologetic expression, she pouted.
"It’s okay." Blake quickly picked what was left of his steeze and wore it on by maintaining a formal approach.
"Nice to meet you." As if that wasn’t all, after a quick glance at his phone, Andrew took the initiative to propose a handshake.
’What is going on?’
