Chapter 106: -A few pointers -

"I’ll ride."

Unexpectedly, Max stepped forward, halting her just as she reached for the stirrup.

She glanced at his face, expecting to see eagerness— however he looked calm and composed, not like someone thrilled to try something new.

Though she didn’t let it show, Max felt her worry of the horse running away if he triggered it and patted its head.

Seeing the horse didn’t react, Olivia appeared relieved and handed him the reins.

"Just so you know, this is our only ride home."

Understanding her unsaid words, Max calmly straightened his leg. Surprisingly the horse stood calm and upright as he climbed up.

Naturally Olivia who stood witnessing this was incredibly surprised.

Soon after Max motioned for her to get on by stretching out one of his arms to help her up.

She grabbed his hand and was assisted to climb the horse.

Holding the reins steady, Max urged to move by clamping his legs with a quick release.

Snort.

It released a snort and began strutting Forward.

Starting with the sound of steady hooves, as Max adjusted and got familiar with the reins and sitting, its speed gradually increased. And soon after they were galloping through the green field.

"Woooo!" As the wind blew against their faces. Olivia wrapped one arm around his waist and excitedly screamed.

Eight minutes later, the once distant mansion was now very close. Ensuing a steady decrease in the horse speed by pulling its reins, it slowly strutted inside the stable.

"Wait, were you kidding earlier when you said you didn’t know how to ride?" she asked, dismounting from the stead. With inexplicable emotions in her eyes as she stared at him.

Meeting her eyes before shifting out of the way, Max gave a negative nod.

"... No." He added shortly after, causing her to pout with sour face then tugged the rein subtly, leading the stead inside the stall.

"So you mean you learnt it on your first try?" She glanced to see his expression.

"... I had a great teacher." Despite finding himself detached from conversations most times, he felt there was a need to compliment.

"That’s nice, I’ll believe—wait, I forgot my phone?" Just as she was about to close the stall, they noticed a Diamond Series phone lying there. Absently misplaced, Olivia quickly picked it and swiped the screen.

"Oh great-" she said with an exasperated look.

"They are in the fencing room. Let’s go."

With Olivia in the lead, they both walked out of the stable. Entering the familiar hallway of the first floor, with a few knowledgeable turns-

"I can’t go like this-" with a quick scan at her roughed dress, Olivia covered her face, inwardly berating her negligence.

Turning to face him-

"That is the fencing room, I’ll be quick." Pointing at the third door across the hallway, she turned back and quickly walked away.

With one look at her departing figure, Max turned and walked towards the door.

’So what surprise do you have for me.’ Imagining the scene of two of his cousins dressed in white clothes and sparing with big needles, he gradually pushed open the doors. Finding the room to be very spacious with high ceilings of ornate plasterwork, just a small hall.

Clang!

The ring of steel against steel, instantly drew Max’s gaze to the unfolding scene.

Two obscured faces in a silver knight helm and breastplate clashed with a broad sword held with both hands.

Clang!

Both swords were raised again, echoing after the bold collision.

"Come on you bastard!" one of the sparring figures with green hair cursed, readying his sword as he prepared for a second charge.

Whilst the other with brown hair let out a mocking comment while waving the broad sword with skills.

"Your skills are too lacking Blake, a lower Paragon like you doesn’t get enough teachings."

Gritting his teeths behind his helm, the green haired charged forward. While the brown haired welcomed him with more ease than before.

’He’s been agitated.’ Max commented observing the green haired figure, Blake, movement.

From their words, he also deciphered that Paragon was the term used for S Elites in the school they attended.

Clang! Clang! Clang!...

This time their clash extended to a total of five clangs. Although Blake’s movement was readable, and dodging would have solved it, Noah the one with brown haired chose to meet it head on.

Following the fifth clang, Noah had his blade close to Blake’s neck.

"Okay I conce-... Oh, look who is back from the tour." His voice loud with a sarcastic tone to it, Blake didn’t seem to mind the blade pointed at his neck anymore but instead took off his helm and roughed his hair.

Upon his words, the girls who had been idle or focused on watching the sparing, all tilted their heads towards Max.

Thrown into the center of attention all of a sudden, Max kept his neutral silent look and nodded in acknowledgement to their presence.

"Come come let’s spare a little cousin. They must have not taught you about combat considering your rank, but we can all give you a few pointers In case you eventually advance.

A new advance S Elite possessing formidable sword skill would definitely be enviable" Blake said with a smile that wasn’t a smile.

The others could all sense his mocking intent, especially the girls who rolled their eyes but each seemed to welcome the thought of watching him sparring. Evelyn included. At this moment, her gaze was the most intense, having blended in with the other girls quite quickly.

"Okay." Max calmly responded as she walked towards the racks of medieval weapons.

Grasping the hilt of a broadsword, Daniel who had been waiting for his turn to dwell came forward and helped him tighten the breastplate.

Putting on a helm, all the girls faltered, with a pink flush tinting their necks. None was excluded by the sight of his silent knight visage.

However, Blake just had to spoil it out of jealousy.

"You can grab the shield if you want to. Consider it training."
