Chapter 64: An Orchestrated Zombie Tide

According to Ainsworth’s plan, when he reached a B+ grade in his stat attributes, he would not only speedrun the Zombie Apocalypse World, but he would also carry Rian and Dante and let them level up alongside him.

Although he couldn’t let them become stronger using his method as they don’t have his class nor his sub-class, he could at least let them get those side mission rewards that weren’t useful to him but very useful to them.

When he reached the limit of this world’s power, he could bring the two of them to travel around the world and try to trigger as many side missions as they could. There was no point in using those rewards that weren’t useful to him when he could give them to his bros who could make more use of them.

And besides, Ainsworth recalled that whenever he triggered a side mission, the choice system would follow up with choice events and therefore, he could keep the choice rewards while he could let Rian and Dante use the side mission rewards to strengthen themselves.

The stronger those two became, the more they wouldn’t become a burden in the next Otherworld Mission. It was within his interest if Rian and Dante could catch up to him even if they couldn’t become as strong as him.

’Speaking of which, when Rian and Dante become strong enough and we manage to complete this Otherworld Mission, I should try to invite Elyndra and Mira to establish a five-man team to tackle on the next Otherworld Mission.’

’With the five of us, we would be invincible in almost any Otherworld as long as that Otherworld doesn’t have a ridiculous world limit. It wouldn’t be fun if just after we arrived, the strongest in that Otherworld immediately sniped and assassinated us.’

’But assuming such things don’t happen, our team would be one of the strongest Otherworld Team in our generation.’

While Ainsworth was looking forward to that, specifically spending time with Elyndra in the Otherworld, his sensory range soon noticed the zombie tide approaching the base.

He was chilling, eating his potato chips, yet soldiers were armed and hastily passing by him, heading towards the fortified walls of the base.

It seemed that not only him, but the leader of the base had also noticed the zombie tide and so he had dispatched the soldiers to defend the base.

Ainsworth had already noticed that the leader of the base was a talented man as he was on the verge of becoming an awakener. Furthermore, from what he could see, despite being the leader of the base, he even accompanied the soldiers at the fortified wall with weaponry in hand.

Unlike most leaders, he didn’t sit at the back but accompanied his army on the battlefield to lead them to victory.

’Well, that makes it easier for me to stage the successful evolution of Captain Rourke, the leader of this base they called Fort Echo-7. Since he is on the verge of becoming an evolver and he is also active on the battlefield, then it would be more plausible for him to evolve and become an evolver while he is fighting.’

’I can then use my father zombie virus to evolve him. But even if he became an evolver, he’d only be a Normal-rank Evolver at the initial stage and that wouldn’t be enough to deal with the Special-rank zombie I sent in this zombie tide.’

’When they have sacrificed soldiers and are about to fall into despair, it won’t be too late for Rian, Dante, and I to save the day like the heroes we are. I can then use my Freedom of Speech skill to increase their morale while subtly manipulating and brainwashing them into becoming my loyal subordinates.’

With that plan in mind, Ainsworth continued eating his potato chips but he secretly contacted Rian and Dante to get ready for the plan.

Soon enough, Ainsworth heard the loud noise of gunshots resound throughout the base, and not long after, there was a scream or two from soldiers who were bitten by the zombies.

Several seconds later, he heard the explosion of grenades. Those soldiers who were bitten knew they would turn into zombies so they charged at the zombies like suicide bombers and exploded all the grenades they had on them.

After a minute had passed and the situation wasn’t looking optimistic, Ainsworth then triggered the father zombie virus inside Captain Rourke’s body, allowing him to become an evolver.

Of course, that also incorporated Captain Rourke into the Hive Mind but Ainsworth didn’t let the Hive Mind influence him yet since he didn’t want to merely enslave them but also brainwash them into becoming his loyal subordinates.

Aside from Captain Rourke who recently became a Normal-rank Initial Stage Evolver, there were also three more evolvers in Forth Echo-7, namely Lieutenant Bell and Lieutenant Johnson, the other being a soldier.

That soldier used to be a survivor but was enlisted by Captain Rourke into the army after that survivor revealed he was an evolver.

With four Normal-rank Evolvers, their line-up was more than enough to deal with those Normal-rank zombies. However, Ainsworth commanded the zombie tide to let the Elite-rank Zombies enter the battlefield which shifted the favor of the battle heavily to the zombie’s side.

What made the situation even more grim was that Captain Rourke and Lieutenant Bell discovered that there was a Special-rank Zombie leading the zombie tide. They knew that even if by some miracle, they defeated the Elite-rank Zombies, there was no way they could win the battle.

Seeing the Special Zombie standing atop a pile of corpses like a commander surveying the battlefield, its grotesque grin practically mocking them, Captain Rourke gritted his teeth. Blood ran down the side of his head from a grazing blow, but he ignored it.

"Everyone, fall back!" he barked, voice amplified by the communicator strapped to his chest. "Squad Three and Four, escort the civilians to the south gate—keep them moving! Prioritize the injured and children!"

Lieutenant Bell, face smeared with ash and blood, responded instantly. "Copy that, Captain!"
