Chapter 160: Just a small lesson
A small smile appeared and disappeared on the Ice Queen’s face from hearing the unexpected compliment, but she quickly adjusted her composure. "I want to do this immediately. As soon as possible. Even right now, if you can give me the time."
"Hmmm?" Damon placed his glass back on the table.
"I wouldn’t be asking if it wasn’t serious. The sooner I stabilize the situation in the clan, the better. Things are deteriorating every second."
"Alright." Damon nodded. "I have some personal things that I need to take care of. So I will meet you and the rest of the team in a couple of hours." Damon stood up to leave when Sylvara quickly hurried after him.
"Wait, are you going to deal with that beast now?"
"Which beast?"
"The one guarding the seventh break point." Sylvara anxiously said.
Damon shook his head. "Oh, that one." He remembered how everyone had been wiped out from taunting that beast and laughed a little. "No. Probably not yet. I should let your family members have a couple more goes at it before I take care of it. Don’t you think so?"
Sylvara bitterly smiled. "Do you think you can really take care of it?"
Damon shrugged. "Who knows? I can’t say anything until I try. Anyways, our focus should now be on the dungeon and not on that black pool. I will see you soon." With that, he disappeared into the streets and appeared in the teleportation portals.
He finally checked his messages, which were now popping up out of control. Yup, his whole family was now online in the game. He only had to read through a couple of messages to know that they had all been teleported together to a small town near Jotar City as their starting point.
He paid the gold coins, took the portal to the city, and from there ran to the small town at a modest pace. Fifteen minutes later, he was standing in front of the motley group who were creating quite a bit of ruckus.
"It would have been better if I were able to adjust my appearance." Damon’s mother pulled her shirt uncomfortably to cover her slightly protruding stomach. His dad rolled his eyes at that comment and did not say much. He busied himself jumping and punching the air, moving his body to see if everything worked.
Meanwhile, Damon’s sister-in-law was scanning her status profile like a hawk, and his brother was simply staring at the passersby, looking a little lost. It was the little munchkin who saw Damon first, charging towards him with an unstoppable force.
"UNCLLEEE! This is amazing! Weeeee!"
Damon braced himself as the little fireball practically tackled him, wrapping her tiny arms around his waist. She was grinning ear to ear, her eyes wide with wonder.
He laughed and ruffled her hair. "Careful there, munchkin. You’ll knock me over at this rate." He glanced over at his family and couldn’t help but smile.
"Alright, alright, calm down, everyone." Damon waved a hand, trying not to grin too widely at the chaos.
His mother finally met his eyes, giving him a soft smile. "We’ve heard so much about this place from you, Damon. I can’t believe we’re actually here."
His father gave him a lopsided grin. "Feels like I’m twenty years younger already. You said this is just a game? Feels real enough to me."
"It’s real enough that you’d better take it seriously." Damon walked over, carrying the little girl.
His sister-in-law snorted on the side. "It’s still just a game. There is no need to exaggerate things to make yourself look more important."
Damon’s mom shot back instantly. "Georgina, do you not know how to be thankful? Maybe you should shut up sometimes."
Damon ignored the two as he was already used to this.
"So Dad, what class are you planning to select? Did you get the option already?"
Damon already knew the answer was going to be something outrageous, and just as he expected, his father spoke with a grin. "I am going to be a beast tamer son! Your old man wants to tame and ride a dragon!"
Damon’s mouth dropped open, and then he burst out laughing. "Dad, a dragon? You’ve never even trained a dog properly!"
His father crossed his arms with mock indignation. "Don’t underestimate me, boy. I’ve been taming your mother’s temper for thirty years. That counts for something."
His mother rolled her eyes, but Damon saw the amused smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Yes, yes, dragon tamer," she muttered, shaking her head. His sister-in-law scoffed on the side.
"Alright, like I said before, I hope no one selected their class yet. I will take you guys to a special place, and then you can pick a better class."
Everyone nodded, including his sister-in-law. Though the woman belittled him every chance she got, the opportunistic lady tended to follow the kind of instructions that benefited her very well. She had no problem at all accepting any kind of help from him.
Damon could only laugh at her pettiness. He hated the woman, but for his brother, he continued to ignore her. Maybe in his last life, he did not have this much maturity, but after two lives, he had definitely developed a thicker skin to not get into a bickering contest with her.
Correction. Maybe he was not all that mature after all.
As the group walked outside of the city, a dire wolf charged at them unexpectedly from the side. Well, unexpectedly for everyone except Damon. Nevertheless, Damon was happy to allow the beast to land a few attacks on its target, which was, coincidentally, none other than his sister-in-law.
"Damon! Damon! Help! Ahhhh! It hurts! It hurts! Damon!" Georgina shrieked in pain.
A very happy coincidence indeed. Damon casually watched the beast toss around the woman and maul her here and there, flesh tearing everywhere and blood spraying like water from a garden hose.
Everyone else was also frozen in shock, watching the scene in horror, unable to even take a step forward. The sight was simply far too horrifying to digest.
Georgina was flailing now, trying to crawl away from the beast as her health bar rapidly drained. "Help! Please! I’m going to die!" she screeched, eyes wide in terror.
Damon quickly tossed a couple of healing spells to keep the terror going. It would be a pity if she died too soon without learning her lesson. Then finally when the woman was about to absolutely lose her shit, he stepped in and pulled away the beast like a small pug.
Right in front of everyone’s eyes, he casually twisted its head and finished its life, draining the blood essence at the same time. "There. Saved your life. No need to thank me." Damon smiled.
Georgina collapsed on the ground, panting hard. She stared at Damon in fear and shock, her mouth for once completely sealed shut. She couldn’t bring herself to say anything. She just dumbly kept staring at Damon.
"Thanks, Damon." His brother finally spoke up. The little munchkin also ran over and hugged him and then hugged her mother and started crying. Seeing the little girl cry it out, Damon felt a little guilty. Maybe he had gone a little far this time.
But he then shrugged. His family needed a wake up call anyways. This world was dangerous and they needed to treat it as such. It was better that they learned it sooner rather than later.
