Chapter 32: First Day At School

Seraphina’s POV

Emma glared at me as a drop of tears fell from my eyes. "I won’t leave you alone, not after knowing everything."

She said and hugged me tightly. "You had been through so much for the past two years, and yet you didn’t share anything with me."

"Forgive me," I hugged her back and patted her back. "But please listen to me, what I have to say first."

"No!" She pulled away and wiped her tears off. "If you are asking me to leave you alone after knowing all these things... I would not leave you."

"I understand that you are angry, and I promise that I’ll share everything with you," I said, and paused as I wiped Emma’s tears before continuing. "So can I say what I wanted to tell you?" I asked in a soft tone.

"Go ahead," Emma still sobbed in silence. "You’d do what you want anyway."

"Thank you," I said, then looked at her seriously. "My so-called sister is in that school. And if she sees me close to someone... she won’t just come after you. She’ll come after your family, too."

"Is she that dangerous?" Emma asked. Her eyes widened as her sobbing was gone.

"If she wasn’t, I wouldn’t have asked you to stay away from me," I pronounced as I smiled a little. "After all, you are the only friend I have in this life."

"Fine, if this is how you put it, I won’t complain anymore," Emma pouted and wiped her tears. "But you know what, we are still roommates and will be able to see each other."

"Oh, really?" I acted totally unaware. "That’d be great then."

The driver was driving painfully slow. As if he wanted us to finish our conversation. The drive of five minutes became twenty minutes.

And thanks to that, we were late on my very first day of school.

"Damn it, girl!" Emma cursed under her breath when she looked at the time. "We are so doomed! I am late!!"

"Chill! I’m late too," I said rubbing my palms together.

was nervous. It was my first day of school, after all.

I’d never been able to attend classes before, but thanks to my high IQ, I didn’t really need to. I had already learned more than what most schools could teach.

But I was thrilled to start over.

Emma gave me one last hug before rushing out of the car.

As for me, I stayed back. I didn’t want to be seen with her, so I decided to go in a little later. Besides, I had to report to the teacher’s office first to get my ID card.

Author’s POV

"Did you hear? Someone from the Lancaster family is joining school today," a student named, Jessica whispered to her friend.

"I know," the other replied. "But I’m not excited to welcome her."

"Why not, Rhea?" the girl asked, raising a brow in confusion.

"Isn’t it obvious?" Rhea rolled her eyes. "She’s coming in the middle of the semester! Do you have any idea how much money and influence it takes to get into this school—especially at this time of year?"

"You’re right. I heard someone say she’s a distant relative of our school belle, Melissa," Mariah scoffed. "Apparently, she forced herself into the family and demanded equal treatment as her."

"What? So the Lancasters were forced into it?" Jessica asked in shock. "I mean... I know they do charity and all, but this? This is robbery!"

"Yes, and that’s why I don’t want to welcome her," Rhea said flatly. "I also heard she’s really ugly. She is nothing like our Belle."

"I hate ugly people," Jessica added as she scrunched her nose like the thought alone disgusted her.

"Whatever," Mariah smirked. "Let’s just make her life hell. She’s in the same year as us, after all."

"Did you know she’s the same age as Melissa but still going to be her junior?" someone else chimed in.

"That just proves how weak and poor she is as a student."

"I really hope she doesn’t join our class."

"I mean, if she managed to get into this school in the middle of the semester, with the Lancasters backing her, what’s stopping her from getting into Class A?" Jessica commented.

Emma was already hearing all kinds of nonsense the moment she stepped into the classroom. She wanted to shout at them and tell them that Seraphina was a thousand times prettier and smarter than their so-called Belle, Melissa.

But she held herself back. Seraphina had clearly told her not to get involved.

However, she still couldn’t stay completely silent.

"You might be right," Emma said, trying to keep her voice calm, "but all you have done is repeat what others told you. None of us have even met her yet. How can you judge someone like that?"

Her fists were clenched at her sides as she tried hard not to lash out on them and lose her temper.

"You may be right, Emma," Mariah said with a fake smile on her face. "Maybe they all just heard it from others. But what if I told you I heard it directly from Senior Melissa herself?"

"What? She really said that?" Rhea asked, her eyes lighting up with curiosity.

"Well... she didn’t say it to me directly," Mariah admitted, "but I heard her talking to our homeroom teacher about the situation. And what shocked me the most was..." She glanced at Emma with a smug look. "Even after everything, she was still trying to ask the teacher to take special care of that girl, since she had some special conditions."

"What special conditions?"

A few students asked at once, they were fully invested in Seraphina by now.

"Well," Mariah leaned in as if sharing a secret, "I heard she has autism. That’s why her family kicked her out. The Lancasters are just distant relatives, but the old madam is really sentimental about family ties, so she took her in. And now... they treat her like some kind of princess."
