Chapter 1103: Meeting Again
Sein, having entered the battlefield in his demigod form, eventually caught Leena’s trail near a basin with an underground mine on the outskirts of the Black Tower of Cinderbones
The fighting here was just as intense, with initiates from the tower using the terrain of the mine to hold their ground.
Unfortunately, the sheer number of black mages attacking the area had pushed the battle deep into the underground tunnels.
Sein’s arrival immediately drew attention from both parties.
What made him stand out even more was that his robe bore no indication of which black tower he belonged to.
Nevertheless, his blazing demigod aura was enough to send shivers down the spines of most lower-ranking mages.
After a quick glance around, Sein rushed toward the largest tunnel opening without hesitation.
Intense flames erupted violently around him the moment he neared the underground mines, spreading in all directions.
By this point, Sein had come to understand that mercy was in short supply around Blackhaven—and, in fact, it was often perceived as weakness.
So, instead of playing nice, he had to be ruthless. This was the only way for him to find Leena quickly.
The flames he unleashed carried the power of ashes.
The moment that unique fusion of elemental fire swept through the tunnels, panic broke out.
Those caught in it tried to douse the gray flames with hydro elemental spells or suppress them with geo elemental magic.
But no matter what they tried, their efforts were futile.
The Ashen Flame turned even those ugly undead creatures and chimeras into smoldering ashes.
Of all those caught in the blast, the invading forces suffered the worst.
Since they had the advantage in this part of the mine, most of them were right in Sein’s path when he unleashed his power.
Naturally, that meant the majority of casualties were on their side.
This mine was originally an aero-attribute magic crystal deposit. Not long after Sein entered, he already spotted the remnants of several depleted veins.
The Magus World had far richer mineral reserves than most foreign planes, but many of its mines had barely been tapped.
This place had clearly seen extensive excavation, though.
Sein kept flying downward for quite a while, yet still had not reached the bottom.
The deeper he went, the more certain he became—this magic crystal mine was definitely more than it seemed.
The upper layer of the mine was a typical aero-attribute energy crystal zone, but everything shifted around a thousand meters down.
As Sein descended deeper, an overwhelming wave of death and dark energy hit him head-on. It was clear that the lowest level of this mine had been turned into a catacomb chasm.
No one could even begin to imagine how many corpses and how many deaths it would take to form something this massive.
The death energy rising from below was even thicker than Sein had felt during the Wild Gorilla World War.
Twisted gray magic runes lined the walls and corners of the underground cavern.
The formation of a catacomb chasm was similar to how magic crystal deposits came to be—if properly maintained, it could function as a long-term resource point.
These runes had been carved throughout the cavern to ensure the necromantic energy down here would not dissipate for at least ten thousand years.
From what Sein had heard, the Black Tower of Cinderbones had stood for tens of thousands of years.
It was not hard to believe that the runes sustaining this place had already been pushed to their limits long ago.
At first, the ones getting scorched by Sein’s magic were mostly black mages from the invading side.
But as he continued his charge deeper into the catacomb chasm, more and more undead and dark creatures began to block his path.
Clearly, the Black Tower of Cinderbones was still holding its ground against the multi-front siege.
Even though the attackers had mostly overrun the surface mines, the catacomb chasm was still fiercely defended.
The signal from his bloodline tracing magic was growing stronger, and Sein flew faster with each second.
Due to the high number of participating black towers and knightly orders, the entire conflict had been deliberately kept in check.
To avoid catching the guardians’ attention or stirring the interest of Blackhaven’s top forces, the tower masters had agreed to a mutual ban on deploying demigod-level mages.
Truth be told, demigods rarely appeared in Blackhaven’s internal wars.
Within the Magus World, creatures of Rank Four and above were banned from direct combat, demigod-level mages—who had already touched on the power of laws—could wreak almost as much havoc if they let loose.
Blackhaven was already on the guardians’ radar, so everyone was careful not to take it too far.
Sein’s previous battle with Harnban had forced Andy to step in because if they had gone any further, the devastation would have been on par with a full-blown Rank Four clash.
Since there were no other demigod-level mages involved in the current black tower war, Sein’s sudden arrival had completely thrown the whole conflict off balance.
As a demigod-level mage with experience slaying deities, Sein was already at the top of his rank.
How could ordinary Rank Three or weaker black mages even hope to stop him?
It was like tossing a cat into a nest of rats—the power gap was so massive that Sein could wipe them out effortlessly.
No wonder the Magus World had always been strict about limiting high-ranking beings from fighting on their homeplane.
Even when Sein was not actively manifesting his power, just flying overhead in his demon form and scattering his Ashen Flames left vast swaths of scorched ground where life had been completely erased.
Even the dark and death energy that filled the catacomb chasm seemed to thin out every time Sein flapped his demonic wing and sent flames washing through the tunnel.
At last, in the deepest part of the chasm, Sein spotted Leena.
She was standing atop the spine of a massive skeletal beast.
Judging by the way she and the black mages around her had positioned themselves, they were ready to defend themselves from him—the supposed “intruder”.
At this point, Sein was still in his demon form, that same “Demon Warlock” that countless feared.
But the moment Leena saw him, she recognized him instantly.
Even though Sein’s current form looked quite different from the Flame Demon appearance she had seen before, she could still tell it was him.
“All of you, stop!” Leena commanded.
At her order, the black mages around her halted. Even the large magic array in the catacomb chasm, seconds away from activating, began to flicker and dim.
Leena had already reached Rank Three and was now a prominent figure within the Black Tower of Cinderbones.
She might have still been far from the demigod level, but no one dared to question her authority. After all, she was the tower master’s apprentice.
Even the three demigod-level mages from the black tower academy usually showed her respect.
She looked every bit the “Dark Reaper” title she had earned.
Her shoulder-length black hair shimmered under the faint glow of the cavern like a dark river of stars.
The massive skeletal beast beneath her was as docile as a kitten under her control.
Black shadow and gray flame met in a blur of motion as Sein dropped his demon form, rushed forward, and pulled her into a tight embrace.
