Chapter 160: Interlude: The Thirteen Thrones (II)

"Discordia? We all thought you were dead. That Greedy Bastard even gave one of your wings to his Believers and declared that you were a False God."

"Haha. Did the Goddess of Wind truly believed that he would be able to kill me?"

Arachne wanted to snicker when she saw the Wind Hag lower her head in embarrassment. It was the Old Man who finally spoke in order to ask a question.

"Why did you bring us here Discordia? While it is good to see you, I doubt you would summon us here just to catch up."

His voice was strained as if his vocal cords were being scraped by bones. Discordia soft laughter flowed out as she remarked

"That is Correct Twilight. I am not here to chat but to ask for your help."

"Our help? The Discordia I remember was stronger than any one of us in a fight. What could we possibly help you with?"

The Beast God had a deep frown on his face as he leaned forward. While he had utter confidence in his abilities, he wasn’t foolish enough to believe he could fight Discordia at the height of her power.

"I might have been stronger than you individually, but even I had my limits."

"Had?"

Arachne’s voice was sharp as she noticed the irregularity in Discordia’s words

Discordia smiled softly, her expression unreadable.

"I was never truly dead,"

she said calmly.

"I only pretended to be. It was necessary for me to vanish from the world’s sight."

The Old Man’s eyes narrowed with suspicion.

"So your death was a lie?"

"A calculated one,"

Discordia replied.

"I made a sacrifice, giving up parts of myself to forge something greater."

She lifted her hands and two glowing orbs appeared, hovering between her palms. One shimmered with bright, star-like light. The other swirled with a dark, stormy energy.

The Old Man and the Tree Hugger were clearly on edge from the power they felt from those orbs. Arachne too noticed what it was and she couldn’t help but laugh slightly.

"So you created Astra and Mors?"

Discordia tilted her head at Arachne’s words.

"You know the names of these children?"

Arachne shrugged in a nonchalant manner as she casually replied

"Yeah I felt their presence near my newest toy."

Discordia had a faint smile as if she already knew about it all already.

"Why are you wearing that blindfold by the way? Can’t you look us in the eyes when you are asking us for something?"

Arachne’s voice came out harsher than what she intended as Discordia unnerved her. However Discordia’s smile softly faded as if weighed down by a deep sorrow.

"Unfortunately I can’t do that anymore...I am blind,"

she said quietly, raising her hands once more. The two glowing orbs hovered between her palms, pulsing gently with their own life.

"These orbs were forged from my eyes. Astra is the light of hope and Mors is the shadow of decay. I gave them willingly, sacrificing my sight to shape forces that could tip the balance of all worlds."

Old Man Twilight’s body shook in shock. His rough voice was barely above a whisper.

"You sacrificed your eyes to create these beings?"

Discordia nodded. Her expression remained unreadable.

"Yes. I chose to lose my sight so that the world could potentially see a future and to act where I cannot. Unfortunately, while their potential is immense, it is also highly unstable. That is why I have summoned you all."

The Wind Hag eyes narrowed with concern as she stared at the orbs.

"Unstable how? What kind of danger are we talking about?"

Discordia’s body trembled slightly even as she spoke calmly.

"If Astra and Mors are left unchecked, their opposing forces could tear the very fabric of reality apart. Astra brings creation and light, but unchecked, she can blind the world with false hope. Mors carries decay and shadow, but left alone, he can drown everything in darkness and despair."

A Lie.

Arachne sat up as she detected that there was a lie in Discordia’s voice. While she was considered the Goddess of Madness and Revenge, she was also a Goddess of Truth.

’There will be a time I tell them the truth. Please say nothing for now’

Discordia’s voice whispered in her ear before Arachne could say anything to refute her.

Arachne’s eyes narrowed as she listened, but she stayed silent. The Old Man’s gaze shifted from Discordia to the glowing orbs.

"If Astra and Mors are such immense forces," he said carefully, "then how do you expect us to contain them? What hope do we have?"

Discordia’s blindfolded face was serene as she raised her hands once more, the orbs brightening slightly.

"I chose you all because of the children you blessed, those touched by your power. They are the key."

The Wind Hag’s eyes widened with interest.

"The children you have gifted with your divine blessings have potential to anchor and balance the chaotic energies Astra and Mors embody,"

Discordia explained softly.

"Their bond can temper the orbs’ instability, giving the children strength beyond what they already hold."

The Beast God frowned but leaned in, intrigued.

"So these children will not only help us control Astra and Mors but will also grow stronger through that connection?"

The silent Dragon God spoke up with a calm but cold tone.

"So you wish to use these children of man and expand their vessels so they can channel this power you speak of?"

The Nature Goddess also spoke of her own concerns

"If these children can withstand the power, their potential will approach if not surpass our own, no? In a sense, we would be creating Gods ourselves."

Discordia tilted her head and asked with a knowing smile

"Is that a problem, Sylvara?"

The Nature Goddess’s smile widened as she replied with a cheerful voice

"Absolutely not. I will help~!"

Discordia turned her attention fully to the others, her blindfold gently stirring as if moved by an unseen breeze.

"I do not expect you to simply hand these children over," she said. "I ask that you guide them. Teach them. Let them grow beneath your watchful eyes. They will need more than raw power to survive what is coming."

The Beast God folded his arms, his voice low and thoughtful.

"You’re asking us to prepare them for a war they don’t even know is coming. Are they ready for that?"

"They don’t need to be ready,"

Discordia said, her voice calm.

"They only need to begin. The path will shape them, and their choices will determine how far they rise."

Arachne gave a small chuckle, though her expression was sharp.

"I suppose chaos was always your answer to prophecy. Throw mortals into the storm and see what comes out."

"Sometimes the storm is what teaches them to fly,"

Discordia replied.

"You of all people should understand that."

The Old Man gave a tired sigh, his voice like gravel grinding together.

"Fine. I will watch over my chosen one. I will make sure they do not fall too far."

The Dragon God nodded once, silent but resolute.

"I will test mine. If they fail, they are unworthy. If they endure, I will support them."

The Wind Hag hesitated, then gave a small nod.

"I still find this all difficult to believe. But I will trust in the wind’s guidance. My chosen will know what to do."

Sylvara’s smile never faded as she twirled a vine around her finger.

"I already said yes. If we are going to raise gods, we might as well raise beautiful ones."

Discordia let out a quiet laugh, genuine and tired.

"Then it begins. The seeds have already been sown. You only need to help them bloom."
