Chapter 140: Wings in the Wind

Chapter 140: Wings in the Wind

Adam’s whole body was in utter agony as if his body had been broken apart and then rearranged into something else. Like a puzzle that had been stuck together by smashing the pieces together where they didn’t fit. Well in his case, that was pretty much exactly what Arachne had done to him.

’You know you’re one crazy bitch right?!’

He seethed but to his surprise, Arachne did not respond. Instead there was an eerie silence, something that he had grown unaccustomed to. He started to grow slightly worried but when he focused, he noticed her presence.

It was faint but she was there. Her presence was so weak as if she was exhausted, most likely from taking control of her body. While he was mad at her, he was also somewhat grateful. If he had tried to interact with Kyle or Melanie himself, he might have been unable to contain himself and strike them or worse.

Entering the elevator down to the lobby with Aria, he glanced at her. She seemed to be taking everything in stride and didn’t seem to be too bothered with what she went through while he was unconscious.

’She really is strong...I honestly wouldn’t have been surprised if she had freaked out and cried..’

What he didn’t know was just how strong the mentality one must have to be a successful idol. Aria had always been taught that in order to reach the top, she had to take everything in stride and failure to keep her composure can be fatal on stage.

While she may have not been able to implement that in-game, her body remembered the need to be calm.

The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime, revealing the pristine lobby bathed in sterile white light. Adam squinted. The brightness made his headache worse, but he stepped out regardless, following Aria’s lead.

She walked ahead, calm and poised, like she belonged there. His suit jacket was still draped over her shoulders, making her look like a composed and elegant boss, her natural charisma drew people to look at her face and away from what lay just below the jacket.

Adam dragged his feet behind her, his body aching with each movement but he refused to show it openly. After all, he had a role to play. He strode behind her with a relaxed expression on his face, acting completely carefree as they strode past security.

Aria could feel her heart in her chest when one security guard looked like he was going to try and stop her to frisk her but quietly stepped back when Adam growled

"She’s with me, keep your grimy hands to yourself unless you want to work elsewhere."

The guard immediately backed off, his face paling as he offered a shaky nod. Aria didn’t flinch or even look back, but she felt it, he was emitting authority and arrogance that commanded obedience. From an outsider’s perspective she could tell that he was truly siblings with Melanie and Kyle but she wasn’t sure if that was a good thing.

With the immediate danger averted, Adam’s stern and cold expression reverted back to his laid back expression. He exhaled through his nose, steadying himself as they walked.

Every step made it feel like his insides were rearranging again, like his body couldn’t decide what shape it wanted to hold. Still, he kept the same lazy grin on his face, hands in his pockets, like he wasn’t barely keeping himself upright.

They exited through the front doors, the cool breeze of the outside world hitting them like a splash of water. Aria closed her eyes briefly, letting it wash over her.

She felt like a fish being returned to the water, her wings twitching beneath the jacket, she felt an almost primal urge to spread her wings but she knew that she shouldn’t.

"So what now Adam?"

She glanced towards the man who was acting as if he was perfectly fine. His lips were pursed as he began to think, it was clear to her that he hadn’t thought that far ahead yet.

"Seriously? You were the one saying you were going to get me out!"

Aria was shocked that he was actually winging this, but after the words escaped her lips, she realized that actually tracked with him. Act first, think later was definitely a Horo like tactic and something she could expect from Adam.

"Tch! Sorry that I was unconscious while the being in my head literally played with my body like it was some sort of Rubik Cube!"

He clicked his tongue and growled back in annoyance. He was debating on what to do when a large black van pulled up to the curb in front of the two of them. Adam cocked an eyebrow as the backdoor slid open and a man dressed in a black suit with black sunglasses.

The man quickly appraised the two of them in comparison to what Adam could only assume was a photo on the man’s tablet.

"Adam Samael. Aria Eversong. Get in."

Adam looked towards the sky where the sun was beginning to set before he glanced back at the man who knew his name.

"So Mr. Agent Man. Is wearing shades like that part of the uniform? If it is, than your uniform is stupid. Who wears Sunglasses when the sun is setting. Will you even be able to see anything when it sets?"

Aria snorted softly at Adam’s question. She found the way he spoke somewhat amusing but the suited man did not react to his provocation. He instead turned his head to stare at Aria.

"We are here to pick you up on behalf of the Young Miss Rachel Wu"

Aria tilted her head in confusion, clearly not recognizing the name.

"Umm? Is it possible you have the wrong person? I don’t know anyone named Rachel.."

Adam snickered and leaned towards Aria, nearly stumbling in the process as he whispered.

"We do know her Ari..Rachel is Nyx."

The girl’s eyes widened in shock, caught off guard by Adam’s sudden whisper and the fact that one of her new friends had connections with what she could only assume was a Government agency.

She turned to Adam, asking him what they should do with her eyes. In response, Adam used his hands to gesture towards the van.

"Ladies first."

Aria rolled her eyes at him as if to ask why she even bothered asking him in the first place as the suited man jumped to allow her entry. Seeing the inside of the van was surprisingly spacious, she grabbed the suit jacket and pulled it off her shoulder, spreading her wings in a similar way that one would stretch their legs.

The Agent’s jaw dropped in shock at the sight when he saw the wings, barely recognizing Adam’s touch on his shoulder as he remarked.

"You will get used to this sort of stuff soon enough Mr. Agent Man Sir."

However before he could further provoke the man, Aria reached out from inside the van and grabbed him by his collar and yanked him inside.

"Stop bothering the guy. He’s just doing his job."

"Yes Ma’am! Ugh..."

Flat on his back inside the van, Adam gave her a military salute but quickly groaned from the muscle pain as the door slammed shut.

’I hope they know where they’re going’

Adam thought as the van drove away, their destination unknown to him.

’Well for now...We have escaped..’
