Chapter 116: Branching into the Unknown
Chapter 116: Branching into the Unknown
Lily walked through the village with Moku snuggled up in her arms, the little pup’s eyes were wide as it tried to take in the new world around it with unconcealable excitement. Lily found the way his little tail kept hitting her with a solid thump extremely endearing.
As she walked, there were girls who noticed the cute puppy and wanted to pet him, their voices leaking out in pure adoration at Moku’s destructive level of cuteness While the boys found themselves being envious of Moku as it pressed up against Lily’s sizable assets.
"I am going to go over and speak to that hottie! Who knows, maybe I can find my way into her friends list and maybe more after that~!"
One man in a group of three remarked as she passed, intending to try and accost Lily but his friends quickly held him back. This caused the man to be incensed as he growled in rage.
"Hey! What the fuck guys?! Are you seriously trying to block me here?!"
The man considered himself relatively attractive and honestly he had a shot, even if it was only a small one but his friends immediately shot him down.
"We ain’t trying to do that at all man. If you want to hit on chicks, be our guest...But don’t get us involved in things that will get us killed here!"
The man scoffed as disbelief crossed his face
"What are you on about? What possible trouble could one broad cause us?! We are Level 4 and one more trip to the hunting grounds and we will be Level 5!"
His other friend shook his head
"One broad? Well that one ’Broad’ just so happens to be the one Ouroboros defended from Banditking’s goons! Also judging by the fact that she is carrying around a pet...She is Lily, the Level 9 Tamer! Do you wanna fight a Level 9? Even if we beat her, she has 5 friends of equal level to her!"
The first man’s expression froze as he felt a chill go down his spine. Flirting with girls was one thing but he definitely had no interest in flirting with death!
"L-Let’s go get a drink guys. I’ll buy since you two just saved my life"
With shaky steps, the three men departed, heading towards the nearest bar in order to shake off their nerves after comprehending just how close they had been to death.
Of course Lily had noticed the exchange the men were having but willfully chose to ignore it. She had already taken a few measures to stop anyone from touching her unwarrantedly going forward but it looked like today was not going to be the day she got to implement it.
With a soft hmph of disappointment, Lily soon found herself standing outside of the apothecary run by her Magic teacher Rori. Choosing to be unconventional, she circled around back and entered through a backdoor.
To her surprise, she found her mentor sitting at desk, reading a book with an elegant look on her face. However, when the door opened, Rori turned to face her with a displeased look on her face. Lily’s expression sank as she inadvertently broke her teachers one rule: Do not disturb her when she is reading a book!
Lily closed her eyes as she braced herself for the inevitable screeching nag that Rori was definitely going to give her but after a few moments, nothing happened. Opening her eyes, she saw Rori was staring intently at Moku, curiosity gleaming in her eyes.
"What is this creature? Where did you find him? I have never seen such a cu..I mean interesting creature!"
It seemed that even her teacher was not immune to Moku’s cuteness. Inwardly grateful to her darling Moku, Lily freely explained to her teacher how and where she got Moku.
Rori listened patiently to Lily as she rambled but as the story progressed, the Alchemist’s expression became more and more warped with disbelief and shock. Taking off her glasses, Rori pinched the bridge of her nose as she tried to recap what she was told.
"So let me get this straight. You and your friends found a dungeon near the village"
"Yes."
"And instead of reporting it immediately, your group tried to enter and explore it"
"Yes"
"And the first boss you fought was an armored monster whose physical attacks were ineffective so your friend got his arm cut off and used his corrosive blood to melt its armor?!"
"Horo did that, Yes. Though using a vine as a bandaid to stick his arm back on was really gross!"
Rori didn’t know where to refute any of this, each decision sounded even crazier than the last!
"After you guys defeated that Boss, You got a notification about another BOSS approaching and decided to stay and fight rather than run?"
"Mhm!"
"And Moku appeared? Are you seriously telling me that Moku was a BOSS monster from the dungeon?"
"Yeah! Isn’t he super adorable~?"
Rori coughed into her hand as she turned her head away from Moku who was held out towards her face. He let out a little squeak of a bark
"Pyu!"
Rori felt her heart clench at the cuteness but she couldn’t allow herself to be distracted by her student’s pet.
"I-I understand your situation. So tell me, why are you here? I sense you haven’t reached Level 10 yet so I can’t teach you any more skills. You haven’t even mastered Overgrowth yet"
She immediately tried to redirect the conversation, noticing that Lily must be here for a reason.
Lily burst into a bright smile as she cheerfully shouted.
"I unlocked Lifestyle Professions so I wanted to learn Alchemy from you~!"
"No."
"Thank you Teach.....Ehh?!"
Lily froze at the unexpected refusal. Her eyes started to water as fi she was about to cry yet Rori’s expression remained steadfast.
"It doesn’t matter how much you cry. A No is a No"
"Tch! Why Not! I am on my way to being a druid or something. Alchemy makes sense,No?"
"The reason I am saying no is because you are careless. I know you are much smarter than you want others to know but it doesn’t change the fact you are careless. Alchemy and Brewing as a whole is a matter of Science and precise calculations. I can’t in good faith teach you Alchemy."
Lily felt offended as her teacher mercilessly shot down any attempt at rebuttal but just as she was about to storm out in tears, Rori made a concession.
"Besides, I have something better for you. It is a Nature Specific Profession that only someone like you can learn..."
That instantly had Lily’s attention.
"Ooh?"
Her eyes held the same wonder and delight as a kid awaiting christmas presents.
"I will give you this book. Until now, it was on the border of being feasible but I believe you have the potential to make it shine."
Lily took the book that Rori held out to her and looked at the title. A sense of wonder washing over her.
