Soul Land 5: The Rebirth of Tang San -
Chapter 921: The Rainbow Blood
Chapter 921: The Rainbow Blood
Tang San had forgotten about this matter until recently. During his evaluation at the Ancestral Court, he gained the recognition of the Celestial Pillar belonging to the Rainbow Deer Demon Emperor. That was when the memory returned to him, and with it, a new possibility came to mind.
"I'll help you look for it. Do you need it right now?" Mei Gongzi asked.
Tang San nodded and said, "The sooner the better. I have an idea. If it works, it could open up a whole new cultivation path for our human race."
Hearing this, Mei Gongzi immediately sobered up from her romantic mood. "That would be amazing. The overseas country is taking shape and everything is moving steadily, even faster than we planned. Over on the Redemption side, they're doing very well organizing humans who are leaving the cities and gathering for departure. We're just waiting for the big teleportation now. Demons and nymphs are too preoccupied with their own problems to deal with humans; I mean, after the fall of the Crystal Demon Emperor, the trouble faced by the Celestial Fox Demon Emperor, and now the sudden death of the Adamant Nymph Emperor, it would be weird if they weren't. It's the perfect time for development, the only problem is that they don't even know how they are supposed to develop. Most of them can't even cultivate at all, only very few of them have some kind of Demon God Transformation. You really need to speed things up. Without a path suitable for humans, we'll never be able to compete with them."
Tang San nodded. "I understand. Once my work in the Ancestral Court is finished, I should be able to offer definitive help to our people."
"What exactly are you working on at the Ancestral Court? Last time you said you were in the west, so what happened there?"
"I can't tell you yet. You'll find out soon enough. I'm working on something major in the Ancestral Court. If it succeeds, it could very well lay the foundation for humanity's future."
"You're always so secretive! Fine, wait here. I'll see if I can find that thing now."
Mei Gongzi huffed and left Tang San's embrace. Though she desperately wanted to spend more time with him, she knew that they both had other priorities for now, and if Tang San said that he needed something urgently, then it had to be absolutely crucial.
As she left to find the blood of the Rainbow Deer Demon Emperor, a faint smile appeared on Tang San's face. The reason he hadn't told her that he was the one who had killed the Adamant Nymph Emperor, or that he was now assuming another identity, was that he feared she might accidentally reveal something during the upcoming matchmaking tournament. There would be no shortage of Emperors there, and if the Celestial Fox Demon Emperor also attended, which was not at all unlikely, then it was even more risky. If anything was exposed, his nymph alter ego could be compromised. It was better to wait a little longer, even if she ended up scolding him for it later.
Before long, Mei Gongzi returned, handing Tang San an exquisite crystal vial.
Inside the vial, a faint seven-colored glow swirled. It was unmistakably the very blood of the Rainbow Deer Demon Emperor that Tang San had seen at the auction a while back; indeed, as it turned out, it had been acquired by the Peacock Great Demon King.
Tang San accepted the vial. "This is exactly what I needed."
"What does the blood of the Rainbow Deer Demon Emperor have to do with us humans?" Mei Gongzi asked curiously. "I once asked my father why the Aetherhorn Deers never produced another Rainbow Deer Demon Emperor. He told me it was because that particular Emperor was born with abnormally high spiritual power, far surpassing his kin and most other demons and nymphs as well. After him, neither the Aetherhorn Deers nor the Golden Deers had anyone with that kind of extraordinary talent. Mastering multiple elements is really no easy feat."
Tang San nodded. "Well, yes, that's exactly the point. Mastering multiple elements requires incredibly strong spiritual control. Comprehending the essence of multiple elements is not something just anyone can do, let alone using them at the same time. But what if it's just one element?"
"Hmm? You mean like me?" asked Mei Gongzi.
Tang San smiled and shook his head. "No, not like you. Your affinity for space comes from your bloodline. But in this world, all beings have some kind of affinity for one element or another, and even for things that don't necessarily pertain to natural elements. For example, during my travels I encountered the Firedawn clan, which have fire-attribute powers. You just mentioned the Adamant Nymph clan, and while they are mostly aligned with earth, some of them have other elemental attributes. Humans are no different. We each possess some affinities, although they are comparatively weaker. For instance, our bloodline power is practically inexistent, but we have a chance to develop our spiritual power instead. Our higher intelligence grants us a natural affinity for spiritual power. The only problem is that spiritual power is not easy to develop.
"So, I started thinking... If we can identify each person's innate affinity and find those with high elemental affinity, then teach them how to cultivate spiritual power while boosting their elemental affinity, could they gain control over elements? That's what I want to test. The Rainbow Deer Demon Emperor mastered a number of elements, so I am thinking of analyzing this blood and figuring out if there's something in it that I can use to boost humans' own elemental affinity."
As she listened to his speculations, Mei Gongzi's eyes widened. "You really came up with that? Do you think it could actually work? If it does, wouldn't that mean anyone could learn to control elemental power? You know, among both demons and nymphs, pure elemental control is considered a high-level ability."
Tang San smiled slightly. "Of course not everyone is suited for it. Each person's talent is different, and so are their affinities. We can only look for those with naturally high affinity for elemental control. Only they have the potential. But with that in mind, it's a viable path. Even if only one in a hundred humans can walk this path, it would still be something uniquely ours."
Mei Gongzi nodded. "That's true. Then I wish you success. Are you heading back already?"
Tang San pulled her into his arms. "I can't stay here too long. I still have important matters to handle in the Ancestral Court. But don't worry; once things stabilize on my end, I'll come back to see you often. Okay?"
"No. Who wants you to come back?" Mei Gongzi replied with feigned annoyance, but her arms hugged him even tighter.
A conflicted look flashed in Tang San's eyes. How could he bear to leave her? What could be better than holding the one he loved in his arms?
Lowering his head, he gently kissed her forehead. Tang San said softly, "My love, believe me... it won't be long before we never have to be apart again. And speaking of that, there’s one more thing. Just now, I gave it some serious thought. You should accept the invitation to hold the matchmaking tournament in the Ancestral Court, and you should participate yourself. I'm already there, waiting for you. Once I win the tournament, we can be together openly. And trust me: By then, there will be no obstacles, not even from the Emperors."
Mei Gongzi looked up at him. "Will it really work? I'm really worried. I'm mostly worried about you."
Over the past few days, she had constantly been worrying about how to deal with the matchmaking tournament. It affected her and Tang San's future happiness, so if anything went wrong, it would be disastrous. There was no way she could marry anyone else. But what if a powerful competitor from another race managed to defeat her and the others? Could Tang San really reveal his strength in front of all those Emperors? After all, he possessed abilities not of this world. One misstep, and his life could be in danger.
"Trust me, I'll take care of everything. That's also why I haven't told you what I'm doing in the Ancestral Court yet. A big part of it is to prepare for our matchmaking tournament."
"Mm, I believe you," Mei Gongzi said with a gentle nod.
She was about to rest her cheek on Tang San's chest again, when he lifted his hands and cupped her soft face. His face slowly filled her vision, and in the next instant, his presence enveloped her completely.
After a long while, in the gentle radiance, the figure in front of her vanished, leaving only a lingering warmth on her lips.
Mei Gongzi stood there in a daze for a while, then huffed, "That scoundrel! He took everything and ran away just like that! Hmph!"
