Sorcerer in a fantasy world -
Chapter 96
Chapter 96: Chapter 96
I have walked through the urban part of Elkilbour quite a few times now. I’d been through it with Iris, Morgana and Umbra at different times of the day. I’d been to the farm twice now which made up about ninety percent of Elkilbour. That time I had been to the more pasture fields while this time we went to the farming crops. We passed through these golden fields on our way in and I’d flown over them a few times as well.
I can’t say they were that exciting. But, there were a few alive farm animals as well and it made for a pleasant walk.
Teaching Samiya to ’talk and dance like a chicken’ left everyone belly laughing by the end. Watching their perplexed expressions at first, however, was a secret treat for me. Call it self deprecating, but it put me at ease to to set myself up as a point of mockery rather than some kind of saintly idol.
Samiya copied me with reluctance at first, but soon found her nerve and embraced the chicken life.
Thus we graced a farm of Elkilbour with two human chickens and howls of laughter from Morgana and Iris.
After our brief walk around the nearby farm, Samiya started to blink sleepily and yawn. Morgana looked bored, but seemed happy just chatting with the group. Perhaps she was itching to get back to work?
"How about we head back?" I suggested.
"No." Samiya complained and then yawned again.
How young children turn from bundles of energy to sleepy zombies will never cease to surprise me.
"I think it is time to get back. I need to start working on food soon." Iris reasoned.
Samiya stomped her foot into the dirt.
"Come on, Samiya." I said to her, pointing towards town. I was perhaps treating her younger than she actually was, but to be fair she was acting childish.
"No!" She shouted with intense fury.
"Little one." I said just louder than a whisper.
Morgana mock laughed loudly. "If you will not come quietly then I shall have to take you." She said like she was an awful performer at an even worse show.
Morgana chased Samiya who giggled and ran away. Samiya buzzed around us, but soon was caught.
Morgana held her in her arms, "Got you."
"No." Samiya squirmed.
Morgana kissed her forehead, "Off we go."
Morgana ran off at a sprint with Samiya in her arms.
"Wait up!" Iris called out.
"Mistress!" Tulisa shouted in alarm.
"Of course." I said.
We chased after them into the urban city with the destination of the Circle of Druids.
We entered back into the urban if more mediaeval style sprawl with confidence.
A figure, I would guess a man, stood in our way. He wore a thick, black cloak that covered his features and his magical signature. He had his sword drawn and it radiated dark magic and dripped murky water.
Iris grabbed Samiya who had been running ahead and pulled her back behind our group.
"Sacrifice yourself to Clavile, Sorcerer. Let your empowered flesh ascend the Fae and do what you cannot. Weak worm! Clavile, heir to Maradon, may your domination be total and your enemies fall before you. By my pact, I swear the Sorcerer’s doom! My blade shall rend his body into pieces and deliver it to you my dark lord."
He spoke in a doubled voice, one that came from his lips and another from his mind to mine. One sounded human and the other distorted. He spoke hoarsely and passionately like some rabid preacher.
I blasted him with lightning. Another proud fool who couldn’t understand the difference between my power and theirs. I sighed in contempt and then corrected myself. It was important to remain merciful and compassionate.
But, I was too confident in victory.
The cloaked figure clacked.
"Oh how you protect me, my lord. My humble sacrifice to you. Yes, those failures and more and more. A hundred bodies for a shield against the storm. For compared to the Pact and Secrets what is nature to the power of humanity?"
I cast down another dozen bolts. Some hit and some he actually dodged. But for the latter it seemed more out of sport than necessity. He was fast.
"I am sword and I am means of your judgement, lord Clavile."
He blurred. I blinked but raised a wall of steel in front of me. I was not his target. I titled my head and cast my eye back and saw Iris’ throat cut open and a spray of blood poured out. She dropped.
Samiya and Morgana screamed in terror and shock.
Tara readied to fight, but was dismantled. Her wrists slit, her arms lopt off and then she was beheaded.
I threw the wall of conjured of steel and shoved the attacker out of the town. It clipped him on the arm and sent him spinning tens of metres away. The arm bones shattered from contact.
I slid forward healing Iris and then reassembling Tara.
"Come Jack." The cloaked man called.
Out of the shadows hopped a strange fae creature.
Covered in a mane of black feathers, the creature had one leg, one eye and one arm sprouting from its chest. It was a slime blob or murky ink underneath the feathers.
I heard Samiya scream, and Tara and several of the neighbouring civilians. They clutched their hearts and collapsed. They were dying and dead of heart attacks.
More figures appeared like the assassins from the night before.
Our fun trip had fallen into a dreadful nightmare.
The cloaked man dashed and killed a still shocked Morgana. He was about to slay Iris again when Tara re-engaged with him and met the attacker blow for blow.
Iris crouched in despair clutching Samiya and Morgana. Grief and shock taking leave of her senses.
"Master, fight!" Umbra shouted at me. "Kill them."
A bloodthirst lit up in me. It counted for little as Jack the fae monster attacked my mind and crippled me from fighting back with magic.
"No!" I heard Umbra scream.
