Chapter 858: Chapter 74 : Getting Away
*Eliza*
Jared’s paws pounded heavily on the ground as we ran through the woods. Now that it was just the two of us, it was much faster to travel this way, with Jared in wolf form and me on his back.
I tangled my fingers in his silky, soft fur, holding on tightly.
His weight shifted with each loping stride and with the heavy backpack on my back, I thought I’d slip off his back from being jostled back and forth.
I kept a spare pair of clothes for him in the backpack, along with our weapons and what limited supplies we had left.
After we’d agreed to spend some time enjoying each other instead of worrying about the curse, Jared said we needed to go somewhere special, but he hadn’t told me where he was taking me that was so special.
The forest melted away until we were running through an open field. There was a cliff drop-off to our left. A fresh, salty scent filled the air and the roar of ocean waves far below crashed against the rocks.
Wherever we were going, it was near the ocean.
My hand slipped and I lurched forward. Quickly, I pushed myself upright and grabbed another fistful of his fur.
Jared’s mother’s necklace slipped out of my shirt and swayed back and forth in time with Jared’s movements. I tightened my legs around Jared’s wolf’s sides, holding myself on firmly.
It wasn’t like I could get a saddle for Jared’s wolf. That would just be... weird.
A shadow shifted inside of me–my shadow... the shadow of the curse that now inhabited me. Every now and then, it would stir, making its presence known.
Mostly, I tried to ignore it. It was just one more thing I didn’t want to worry about right now. My focus was on Jared and enjoying what time we had left together.
Leaning forward, I hugged Jared’s wolf with my arms and legs and rested my cheek on his back. His fur tickled my skin. I smiled, feeling his chest expanding and contracting against my inner thighs as he breathed deeply. His heart thumbed through his body and into my bones, making me feel so much closer to him.
After another mile, I recognized the coast we were running along. It was the Saboreef coast. Soon, we’d get to the Saboreef village, a southern, beachside town. Yeah, that definitely seemed like the place we could lose ourselves in each other for a few days.
Sighing, I closed my eyes, my thoughts wandering to my family.
My heart ached whenever I thought about them. I missed them. Being with Jared was like starting a new family. But I still thought about them a lot, and with the curse....
Eventually, we’d have to go into the Light Realm so that I could see them and say my final goodbyes.
Tears brimmed in my eyes, but I held them back.
Jared’s wolf sighed, pulling me from my thoughts. I nuzzled against his fur and squeezed my arms around his neck.
Sniffling, I sat up and wiped my tears away. The family goodbyes could wait.
Right now, Jared was my only concern. I’d promised him we could take a few days off and not talk about the curse, worry about it, or even talk about it. This was our time to just enjoy each other.
Just outside of the beachfront Saboreef town, we paused so Jared could shift back. He dressed quickly and we walked the rest of the way into the village.
Despite it being a hot tourist destination, I noticed how everyone moved around casually. No one was in a rush or had any sense or urgency. Everyone was just meandering, doing whatever they wanted on their own time.
Boy, did that sound nice....
“I’ve got to send a message to my village,” Jared said, his voice a little hoarse from not using it for hours.
“What are you going to tell them?”
Jared’s eyes darkened and he gave me a somber look. “That we might not return.”
I nodded. It wasn’t the happiest message, but it needed to be sent. There was no use tiptoeing around the truth. Jared was cursed. He only had a few months to live, and everything we’d done to break the curse had failed.
Not only that, but I’d managed to make things worse by pulling the curse onto myself as well.
A shadow grew inside of each of us, one we couldn’t fight anymore, one that would consume us completely.
After he sent his message, I followed Jared into the town square.
The sun was shining and bright. Seagulls swooped around the square, landing on nearby buildings and then dropping in to snatch crumbs and unmonitored food from unsuspecting tourists.
I smiled as I watched the crafty birds score some juicy treats from a child who was dropping fries as she toddled along the sidewalk.
“Come on, we need to blend in,” Jared said.
He brushed his fingers down my arm and nodded toward a shop.
I flipped through the hangers on a bathing suit rack, looking for something I liked. Since this retreat was mostly about keeping Jared in good spirits, I picked out a bathing suit that I knew he’d like.
We got our swimsuits, towels, and some sunglasses. I put on a bathing suit wrap after we changed.
“How do I look?” Jared asked.
He emerged from the dressing room in a pair of navy-blue swim trunks that had a white and black stripe down the sides.
Jared smirked and slid on a pair of black shades. He crossed his arms and bent to the side in a gangster pose. His muscles bulged and glistened and I raked my eyes over each delicious contour of his body.
I rolled my eyes. ‘You’re definitely one of the cool kids.”
“Do I get to see what you’re wearing?” he asked, wiggling his eyebrows at me. He came up with me and put his hands on my sides, cinching the bathing suit cover around my waist.
Chuckling, I pushed his hands away.
“Not until we get to the hotel. Where are we staying again?” I left the store, Jared following close behind.
“Uhh... hotel?” he arched an eyebrow at me.
“Wait, did you not book us a room?” I stopped dead and stared at him.
Jared shrugged. “Well, I wouldn’t call it a room exactly.
He led me to the docks, where several houseboats were tied up. The one he brought me to was a thirty-foot sailboat with a cabin below deck. It was painted white with a single, dark green stripe all the way around the outside.
Jared hopped on the boat and held his hand out. “Ready to come aboard?”
I took his hand and hopped onto the deck. I slipped on the wet planking. Jared grabbed me and held me close for a moment.
“You’re definitely wearing a lifejacket,” he said. He tossed me one of the ugly, orange life vests.
We sailed out on the water, far from where the other boats were tied. Salty wind blew through my hair and the seagulls followed us for a while, calling out to each other.
Jared took us around a point and on the other side was a quiet, deserted cove. He dropped the anker.
“You didn’t put your lifejacket on,” he said, frowning slightly.
“And I survived,” I pointed out.
“You should have worn it.”
“Wh–AHHHH.”
Jared grabbed me and jumped over the side of the boat.
We plunged down into the ocean, the cold water shocking me. I floundered under the surface and when I broke free, I gasped and kicked, keeping myself afloat.
I turned around and saw Jared treading water, smirking smugly.
“Oh, you really think you’re cute, don’t you?” I splashed him with water.
Jared growled. “You’re going to pay for that!”
We splashed and swam together, enjoying the quiet and each other’s company while the sun shone down on us.
Jared climbed onto the boat again and dove off the bow, back into the green sea.
When the sun started to set, we hauled in some fish on a trap that came with the boat.
As Jared cooked the fish over a little propane camping stove, I laid our towels out on the boat deck.
The setting sun made the water’s surface glitter all the way to the horizon. Off in the distance, I saw a pod of dolphins jumping and doing tricks in the water.
We ate our meals on the boat deck, watching the sunset.
When I was full, I stood up and pulled my swimsuit cover off. It was still soaked from when Jared had dragged me into the water and with the sun going down, I was starting to get cold.
“How’d you like the....”
I glanced at Jared, who was still laying on his beach towel. He stared at me, eyes wide, mouth hanging open. Without moving his face, he moved his eyes down my body, roaming over my breasts in the small tropical flower cups that pushed them out, tied neatly with a bow. His eyes traveled down my flat stomach and navel to the matching bathing suit bottoms that sat low on my hips with only bows on the sides holding them to my body, then down my long legs.
I bit my lip and knelt down on my towel. I could already see the bulge in his swim trunks. It was impossible to hide the way he was sitting.
“I knew you’d like the swimsuit,” I teased.
Jared nodded, dragging his eyes back up my body. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone wear a bathing suit that well.”
I slipped my arms around his neck.
Jared put his hands on my hips, his pointer fingers slipping into the bows that held my bathing suit in place. He pulled me onto his lap.
I straddled him, grinding my hips against his erection.
Jared groaned and gripped my hips tighter. He buried his face in my breasts, kissing them. He grabbed the bow with his teeth, pulling until it came loose and my top fell away.
My legs clenched around his thighs and I tightened my arms around his neck.
Jared kissed my right nipple and then my left. His cock jumped against my leg. He cupped my butt and pulled me as close as possible.
I rolled my hips against him, my wet pussy aching with desire.
He teased my nipples with his tongue. Jolts of pleasure shot down my stomach and spine, settling in my core. Heat blossomed and pulsed through me. I rotated my hips in a slow circle, rubbing against his erection.
Jared squeezed my butt tight and moaned. He kissed up my neck and throat, pulling my chest against his.
I threw my head back, moaning.
Grabbing my sides, Jared flipped on top of me. He slipped his fingers under the ties of my bathing suit and pulled them out. The small strip of tropical patterned fabric vanished. I bent my legs and he settled his hips between my knees, pushing his swim trunks down.
Jared leaned in. He kissed me hungrily on the lips, sinking his throbbing cock deep inside of me.
I clenched around him and arched my back, moaning into his mouth. I tightened my arms around his neck as he thrust into me, stretching my insides pleasantly.
I rolled my hips to meet his thrusts, pleasure coursing through my legs. My thighs trembled and I arched like a bow, crying out as pure and complete ecstasy overtook me.
Jared groaned. His cock quivered and he emptied inside of me.
