Chapter 1227: Chapter 138 : Forging Alliances
*Rion*
Daphne moaned and I rolled over on the bed, slipping my arm around her and placing my hand on her large belly.
“Is that a labor moan?”
“No. It’s a, ‘I’m too huge and want this baby out,’ moan,” she grumbled.
“Soon. I’m sure it will be any day now.”
“Ugh! I want it to be any minute.” She threw the covers off and got out of bed.
I watched her shuffle off to the bathroom.
She was a couple of days overdue now and could go into labor at any moment. I knew how anxious she was to get the baby out given the difficulties with the pregnancy. I just wanted a healthy baby.
“Daphne, I’m going to check in on things at Thorn Forest. I’ll meet you downstairs for breakfast.”
“Yeah, okay. Make me something that will get this baby out!”
“On it.” I chuckled and grabbed a robe. There was a phone down the hall.
I put in a call to the people I’d left in charge at Thorn Forest.
“How’s everything going?” I asked.
“Everything here has been quiet, Alpha Rion.”
“Quiet is good.” I nodded, even though he couldn’t see me.
“Yeah. Actually, Thorn Forest is thriving. We had a great harvest and we got started on another building.”
“That’s great to hear. I’m glad things are going well and that things are quiet.”
“When do you think you and Luna Daphne will be back?”
“Oh... I’m guessing it will be about another month. She’s going to give birth any day now, and it isn’t a good time to travel.”
“I understand. Well, we’ll keep things running until you get back. Give Daphne our love.”
“Thank you. I will.”
I put together some breakfast for the twins and for Daphne. Jasper, Eva, and the boys joined us, and it felt like we were one big family.
“Hey, hey! No throwing food at the table!” Eva grabbed a grape from Tarik before he could throw it in retaliation for Aster flicking a fruit loop at him.
Yes, it felt exactly like they were one big happy family.
“Rion, can you get me a refill?” Daphne held out her tea mug. She was downing herbal tea that supposedly induced contractions.
“Of course.” I went to the teapot and poured her another mug.
Just as I turned to give it to her, a man came into the kitchen. He came right up to the table.
“Um... hi...?” I spoke.
“Isaac, what are you doing here?” Daphne looked up from her tea.
“I’m sorry to just barge in,” he said. “I come with some news from my dad.”
“Eva, and Rion, this is Issac Black, Alpha Oliver’s son.”
Eva tensed and put her arm around Aster.
“What does Alpha Oliver have to say?” I crossed my arms.
We’d made our peace, more or less, but I still had my suspicions about Oliver and his motives for my nephews. It wasn’t easy to just forget what he tried to do and the massive strain it put on Eva with her magic.
“It’s a warning, really. Varge escaped.”
“What!?” Eva jumped to her feet. “Alpha Oliver said that Varge was no longer a threat. He assured us that if we left Varge in his care, we wouldn’t have to worry about him ever again!”
Isaac held his hands up in a gesture of surrender. “Yes, I know. He feels absolutely horrible about it too.”
“Well, what’s he doing about it?” I snapped.
“I assure you, he has all his men out there looking for Varge.”
“That’s not going to be enough,” Eva muttered, plopping back down.
“Do you know his plan? Did Oliver learn anything from the interrogations?”
Isaac sighed. “He is still pretty fixated on the boys, the twins, and Daphne’s unborn child.”
“I will never let him get anywhere near the children!” Eva stood up again, her eyes burning white hot.
“Eva....” Jasper grabbed her arm. “We can all protect the kids. You don’t need to overexert yourself.”
“I’m fine. When it comes to the kids, I will use whatever weapons I have.”
“Eva.” He pulled her back down to her chair and kissed her cheek. “We’re all in this together, okay? You don’t need to bear the weight of it all anymore.”
“It’s sweet, Jasper, but you don’t have to worry about me.” She patted his cheek dismissively.
I pursed my lips as Jasper’s eyes narrowed. Clearing my throat, I went to Daphne and put my hand on her shoulder.
“You’ve just recovered from the last time you used magic.”
“Eva, listen to him.” One of the elders said as they all joined us in the dining room. “We will do what we can to protect the children as well. We can even train them.”
“Train them?” Isaac asked. “Doesn’t that seem risky, given the boys’ past?”
I saw Eva’s jaw drop and her eyes blaze again.
Before she could stand up again, I intervened. “Isaac, why don’t you come to dinner tonight? You can really talk to the kids and understand their powers.”
Isaac’s eyes moved back and forth slightly. “Yeah, alright.”
“Come with us, we can get you settled in for the day.” One of the elders grabbed Isaac’s arm.
As soon as he was out of the dining room, I let out a long, slow breath.
“I don’t trust him or Alpha Oliver,” Eva announced.
“Yes, I think we all get that,” Jasper teased her.
“Look, once he sees what the kids can do, he’ll be more comfortable with training them. We all know that. This is our chance to create a lasting peace and alliance with Drogomor and Alpha Oliver,” I said.
Eva and Jasper nodded.
I squeezed Daphne’s shoulder. “Do you want to come to dinner?”
“Of course, unless I’m in labor by then. Please, Goddess, let me be in labor by then!” Daphne groaned as she guzzled down her herbal tea.
“Right, well, until then, you might want to take it easy.”

I could tell Isaac was still uneasy when he showed up to dinner. All the talk of powerful kids would have me on edge too, if I didn’t know my daughters and nephews.
Unfortunately, we had to start convincing people they weren’t dangerous, or Ayla, Serene, Aster, and Tarik would end up living isolated lives.
I was determined not to let that happen, and I knew Eva was too.
“Isaac, these are my daughters, Ayla and Serene.” I took them both by the hand and led them to where Isaac sat at the dining room table.
We had a whole spread laid out with some of the finest dishes we could get. Beyond that, it was an intimate setting, just Eva, Jasper, Daphne, the twins, and Eva’s boys.
I didn’t want Isaac to be too focused on the politics with the elders there. I wanted him to be open minded.
“It’s nice to meet you.” Isaac nodded to them.
“Aster, Tarik.” I motioned them over and they introduced themselves to Isaac, too.
We all sat down to eat, and Isaac seemed a lot more relaxed. I noticed how he never took his eyes off the kids for more than a few moments at a time.
After dinner, we took him out to the patio.
“Aster, why don’t you and Ayla show Isaac what the two of you have been working on?” I asked.
Aster gave me a look. “She’s just a baby!”
“Aster, please,” Eva interjected.
Aster took Ayla’s hand, and they moved away a little bit.
“Come on, baby, show us what you can do.” Daphne blew a kiss to Ayla.
I went to her and put my arm around Daphne’s waist. She rested her head on my shoulder with a sift sigh.
Ayla and Aster’s faces scrunched up in concentration. They picked something to focus on and the two of them moved a large rock. They lifted it into the air with coordinated focus and floated it across the yard.
I glanced at Isaac. His jaw was slightly slackened.
“Umm... that’s impressive. We’d need like twenty warriors to move a rock that size.”
“When they work together, they’re a lot stronger. It’s like their powers synchronize,” I explained.
“Interesting. I don’t know if Varge knew that. He never got to see the twins and the boys work together.”
“It could be a secret weapon,” I agreed.
“Tarik, it’s your turn,” Eva said gripping her youngest son’s shoulders.
“Okay, Mommy.”
“Isaac, hold out your hand to the boy,” I instructed.
He shrugged and held his hand out.
Eva grabbed a pin from her hair and jabbed Isaac’s hand with it.
“Ouch! What the hell was that for!?” He pulled his hand back.
I smirked. “Come on, Isaac, trust us.”
He glared at me but held his hand out.
Tarik placed his palm over the cut and closed his eyes.
I watched Isaac’s brow crease, then his eyes widened and he gasped. He pulled his hand back and showed us his cut-free palm.
“We have ourselves a healer,” I said.
“Right now, he can manage small cuts and bruises, but I suspect his power will grow with time and training,” Eva added.
“And what about you, Serene? What can you do?” Isaac asked.
Selene smiled and flipped her hair over her shoulder. I chuckled. She was getting a little sassy.
She went to Ayla first and grabbed her hand. Then she touched Aster.
A glowing aura expanded around her and then around Aster and Ayla. Tarik grabbed Aster’s hand and the aura expanded around him, too.
“Huh. What’s that do?” Isaac asked.
“We’re still figuring it out,” I explained. “But her powers clearly respond to the presence of the others.”
Isaac nodded. “Well, I’m impressed and amazed. And this is all with the bracelets on.”
“Yes,” I said. “They’re able to do quite a bit even with them, especially with healing.”
“Come on, girls. I’ll bring you up to bed.” Daphne called the twins to her. She winked at me and headed off with them.
Jasper took the boys to bed, leaving Eva, Isaac, and me to talk.
We found chairs on the back patio and sat in the moonlight discussing the kids and their powers.
“They seem very well adjusted and accustomed to their powers,” he commented.
“Well, I have been training them some. There’s still a lot more for them to learn. The elders could help with that,” Eva said. She glanced in the direction of Aster and Tarik’s bedroom.
“I can see how close all of you have gotten as a family. Aster and Tarik don’t seem to have any trace of Varge’s malice.”
I nodded. “They’re good boys. They just lost their way a little. Given the circumstances, that’s understandable. But they only use their powers for good.”
“Their powers are incredible,” Isaac said. “I was concerned at first, but I can see all four of them have brave spirits and good hearts, despite their powers and how they could be used.”
“Will you relay that information to Alpha Oliver?” Eva’s eyes lit up hopefully.
“I will. I already contacted him to send warriors to help guard the Celestial City borders. They’ll alert you, me, and my father if Varge is even sighted in the area.”
“Thank you, Isaac. It’s important for everyone that Varge is found.”
“Agreed,” Isaac said. “I am in this now, and I will protect the children as if they were my own family.”
“Thank you, Isaac.” Eva gushed. “It means a lot to have your support. All I want is for my boys to live a normal life without fear or threats like Varge. With your support, that can actually happen someday!”
I put my hand on Eva’s knee. “For now, we will keep them hidden here and help them grow their powers. When Varge is finally eliminated for good, we can all have a safer, happier future.”
“Yes, that would be nice,” Isaac agreed with a chuckle.
I looked off into the darkness. There was part of me that wondered if the boys would ever lead normal lives after what Varge had put them through. I could only hope.
