Chapter 1191: Chapter 102 : A Heart to Heart
*Daphne*
I nibbled lightly at the food on my plate. Rion had really gone above and beyond to put this dinner together, but I was on guard. The last time he had a conversation with me, he’d sent me away and been so angry.
I didn’t know what to expect.
“Are you... holding up okay?” Rion asked.
I lifted my eyes and met his curious gaze. I couldn’t tell if he was actually concerned or just trying to figure me out. At this point, I wasn’t sure if it mattered.
“I’m holding things together.” I nodded and rolled some vegetables around on my plate with my fork.
Fireflies started blinking over the gardens, and I couldn’t help the smile that tugged at my lips. It was a very romantic, intimate setting, something I’d expect from my husband.
“What’s funny?” Rion asked, grinning back at me.
“Oh... I was just thinking about how the Rion I know would do things like this for me all the time.” I shrugged and bit my lower lip.
I noticed that Rion hadn’t served me wine like he served himself. Someone must have told him about my pregnancy. I’d barely had a chance to speak to him, and I didn’t know what he remembered from when he first woke up.
My heart swelled slightly, and I fought the tears rising in my eyes. In some way, he was still looking out for me.
“Daphne, I am the Rion you know. I’m just... missing a few pieces.”
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have phrased it that way.” I shook my head.
“No, I’m sorry.” He reached across the table and took my hand. “I know you didn’t ask for this and you don’t deserve any of this.”
Those pesky tears I was trying to fight kept welling up again.
Rion’s fingers were so warm and light on my hand. His fingertips rubbed my knuckles gently and tinges shot up my arm. I gasped and closed my eyes.
“I want to help, Daphne. I want to start putting my life back together, our life.” He gave me a sheepish smile and turned away slightly. “It sounds strange saying that.”
“Strange?” My eyes widened.
Rion shrugged. “Not in a bad way. I just didn’t think I’d be saying that any time soon.” He chuckled and reached for his wine.
“Well, if you want to start rebuilding, we can focus on the pack. Maybe that’s where our energies are best spent, and things with us will work themselves out in time.”
“That’s a good idea.”
I saw the relief as Rion’s shoulders lifted slightly. It seemed like he was nervous about what I’d say.
As much as I wanted my husband back, I wasn’t going to force him or rush him. I couldn’t make him remember and I couldn’t make him resume his responsibilities as a father or husband. That would come with time, and I had plenty to work on with the twins and the pack.
“So, tell me what’s been going on with the pack. If I’m going to be Alpha, I need to know.” Rion smiled and nodded encouragingly at me.
“Things are going really well. It seems like our new arrivals have leveled off, and that’s made it easier to get everyone the resources and supplies they need.”
Rion nodded along with what I said. He seemed to be taking it all in, but I made a mental note to leave the ledgers out tonight so he could look them over privately and catch up if he wanted.
“Everyone is really happy. I think your return today boosted morale a lot more after the events with Alpha Gareth.”
Rion growled, his fingers tightening around my hand. “Alpha Gareth!”
I nodded. “I have my concerns about the threats he’ll pose in the future.”
“I don’t want you to worry about that. You shouldn’t have to. I’ll handle Alpha Gareth and any threat he poses. Okay?”
I nodded slowly, those tears forcing their way into my eyes again. Seeing Rion so protective and on guard reminded me of how he could be, especially with me and the twins.
We fell into an easy silence, and I ate more of my dinner. I kept catching glimpses of my husband, the way he wanted to protect me, the little flashes of humor in his eyes. He was still in there.
My mind wandered back to when he rejected me, and my heart sank. He was being so sweet and open, but it didn’t change the things he’d said and done when he first woke up. Slowly, I pulled my hand away from his.
“Something on your mind, Daphne?”
“Rion, as much as I’d like to put our life back together, there are things—” I cupped my heart with my hands, afraid it would fall out of my chest. “At the hospital, when you rejected me and sent me away, that really hurt.”
“I know. I can’t take it back, but I know now that I shouldn’t have said those things.” His expression softened, and I saw the tortured pain in his eyes.
“I get that you have amnesia, and that you only know what people have told you, but it was still harsh. I didn’t think you’d ever treat me like that, even when you kidnapped me.”
Rion’s eyebrows lifted into his hairline. “Huh, that sounds like an interesting story.”
I giggled. My stomach fluttered and I nodded. “I’ll tell you all about it later.”
He chuckled and then sighed, becoming serious again. “I’m sorry, Daphne. I can’t change what I said and did, but I can spend the rest of my life making it up to you, and that’s what I plan to do.”
“Th-thank you.”
Rion put his fingers to his temple. “Some things are starting to come back. I keep getting glimpses of our life together. If you’ll be patient with me, I promise to get it all back and love you like you deserve.”
My stomach and heart burst with flutters and I smiled widely. It was a good start, and exactly what I needed to hear from him.
“No matter what, Daphne, I promise to protect you and our family, even if I don’t have all my memories back. So, don’t worry yourself over Alpha Gareth. I’ll take care of it.”
I felt much lighter after our dinner conversation. Rion and I finished eating and then headed inside to put the girls to bed.
He was a little nervous when he went in to say goodnight. I could tell by the slight tremor in his hands.
“Read us a book, Daddy,” Ayla demanded. She held up a stack of books.
“Okay, just one.” Rion settled down with them and read a book. At first, his voice was stiff, but by the third page, he got really into it and started doing silly voices for the characters.
The girls loved it, but they were both asleep by the time he finished reading.
I waited while Rion slowly got up and positioned them together, placing a blanket over them.
He kissed them each on the cheek.
I went to their bed and kissed them, tucking the blankets in around them.
“You did a good job,” I whispered as we left the room. I flipped on the night light and closed the door half-way.
“It just felt natural,” he admitted. “Maybe if I just do the things I used to do, my memories will start to come back faster.”
“Maybe.” I nodded and headed to the master bedroom. I had a guest room made up for Rion, but he followed me down the hall. “There’s a guest room for you.” I pointed to the guest door.
“Yeah. I could stay there or....” He grabbed my hand and pulled me into his arms.
I gasped as our lips collided. In an instant, all my barriers melted, and I leaned against him. Rion’s powerful, protective arm slipped around my waist. He cupped my cheek with his hand, deepening our kiss.
His thumb brushed my cheek, and he pulled back slightly.
My breath was heavy, my chest rising and falling dramatically. My skin hummed under his touch, and his firm body pressed against mine.
“Or, I could stay with you,” he murmured, pressing his forehead to mine. “If you’ll have me.”
My stomach twisted and I tried to speak, but no words came out. I nodded and slipped my arms around his neck. I rose on tiptoes and kissed him firmly, tightening my embrace around him. He grunted and held my hips, pulling my body flush against his.
My core cinched tight, and my legs trembled. I could feel our emotional bond blossoming, growing stronger and more vibrant as we kissed.
Rion reached around me and pushed the bedroom door open. He backed me inside and kicked the door shut behind him.
I clung to him, our lips moving together fervently as he backed me up to the bed. Rion tightened his grip on my hips and lifted me off the floor. I wrapped my legs around his waist to keep from falling.
He lowered me onto the bed and knelt between my legs. His tongue ran along my lower lip. A shiver ran down my spine.
Rion’s fingers pushed my shirt up my sides, his fingertips softly caressing my skin. I shuddered and twisted in his grasp, heat pulsing from inside of me.
I wanted him to rip my clothes off and devour me, but Rion seemed intent on taking things slow.
He kissed my neck, sucking and nipping a trail down my throat. His hands slid under my shirt and flipped up my bra.
Warm palms cupped my breasts, his fingers massaged and kneaded the pillowy orbs. He pinched my nipples lightly while his tongue ran up my neck.
I moaned and writhed under him, desperate for him to touch me more.
Rion pulled my shirt over my head. He kissed the base of my throat, then between my breasts. His lips latched onto one of my nipples and he rolled it around on his tongue. His hands moved down my sides, hooking into the waist of my pants. The fabric slid over my hips and down my thighs. I kicked my pants off and wrapped my legs around Rion, locking my ankles.
He chuckled and pulled his lips off my nipple with a “pop.”
“We’re not going too fast, are we?” he asked in a deep, husky voice.
I put my hands on his shoulders and shook my head. “No. I want you. I want to feel close to you again.”
He smirked and nodded. Rion grabbed my thighs tightly and crushed my mouth with his. He pushed his tongue inside, and I massaged it with my own.
My pussy clenched and I rolled my body against his. I pulled at the button and zipper on his pants, his hot, heated cock straining against the fabric.
He groaned when I freed his erection, and I guided it to my moist, aching entrance.
