Chapter 1088: Chapter 151 : Blessed
*Sasha*
**Five Years Later**
I walked out of the doctor’s office, a frown tugging at my lips. It was unexpected news, that’s for sure.
Sighing, I got in the car and headed home. I’d have to worry about breaking the news to Lucas later.
I drove through Winter Forest to the cabin Lucas and I designed for ourselves and our family. It wasn’t much of a cabin. A five-bedroom, three-bathroom home was a lot more than a cabin.
Lucas was in the kitchen chopping vegetables. He glanced over his shoulder at me.
“Hey, you’re home.”
He leaned away from the cutting board and kissed my cheek.
“What’re you making?”
“There’s a chicken in the oven. With two hungry teenagers... I hope it’s enough.” He tossed the veggies in a pan to saute them.
“Can I help?”
“Hunter and Willow are working on their homework, but I haven’t had a chance to set the table yet.”
I nodded and went to set the table. After I helped get the schools for the gifted established, Lucas and I relocated to the Light Realm, where we finally built our dream home.
I stopped setting the table and walked to the double doors in the dining room that overlooked our amazingly landscaped yard. Evening light spilled in.
My heart swelled and I smiled like I always did when I saw that view. This was the life I loved, the house I loved.
“Dinner’s ready, kids!” Lucas called.
Immediately, the house trembled as two sets of teenage feet stomped down the stairs.
“Oh, Mom, you’re home.” Hunter, now sixteen, gave me a funny look.
Willow ran up to hug me. She was fourteen now. “Why didn’t you come say ‘hi’?’”
“I didn’t want to interrupt you doing your homework.”
Lucas put all the food on the table and took off his man-apron. “Okay, now I can give you a proper hello.”
Lucas grabbed me and pulled me into his arms. I cried out, laughing as he dipped me low and kissed me deeply.
“Ahh, gross!”
“You guys, stop it!”
Hunter and Willow protested against our display of affection.
I sighed and shook my head–as if they’d never seen us be affectionate before. The four of us sat down at the table and ate a family meal. It was so nice to have this time with my family every night. Our days of long hours and constant travel were finally over.
After dinner, the kids went back to finish their homework. Lucas opened a bottle of wine and offered me a glass.
“Not tonight. I’ve got some early client meetings and I want to keep a clear head.”
“Alright, if you’re sure.” Lucas smirked and poured himself a glass. We sat on the couch together late into the night. Lucas told me about a problem Hunter was having at school with another student.
Finally, I turned to him and took his hand. Lucas creased his brow.
“What’s up?”
“Lucas, remember when we talked about having a big family with five kids?”
Lucas grinned and chuckled. “Oh, yeah. How naïve was I? Our accelerated careers kind of stopped that, didn’t it?”
“Was it naïve? Do you think we missed out?”
Lucas sighed and squeezed my hand. “Sasha, I love you, I love our kids. I don’t think we missed out on anything. We have a perfect family and a perfect life.”
“You’re right.”
***
Lucas brought the kids to school while I made the early morning client calls. We had a joint home office where we ran our architecture firm. After the large airport project, Lucas decided his heart wasn’t in the Royal Engineer job.
We wanted to relocate to a quiet place to raise our family and ended up back in the Light Realm.
We had the skills to start our own firm, and it ended up being more profitable while also more comfortable.
Lucas and I had complete control over our own schedules and we were our own bosses. We specialized in designing custom homes. That was where most of our clients came from, but we took on some commercial jobs now and then.
It was an agreement between the two of us that Lucas and I wouldn’t take on projects that would be too big and take time away from our families.
“I have the plans drawn up for your home,” I told the client. “If you’re ready, I’ll send you a plan and a quote. Once you sign off on it, we’ll get the contractors started.”
“Thank you, Sasha. Please, my wife and I are eager to see the plans.”
“I’ll send them to you right away.”
When we hung up, I leaned back in my chair and put a hand on my stomach.
Life had been so good since Lucas and I relocated and started our own business. It was the best move for us as a family and a couple.
“How are the proposals going?” Lucas asked when he got to the office.
“Good. Just waiting for two more to be signed off on. Do you have everything squared away with the contractors?”
“Yup. They are just waiting for my call.”
We had a desk that we sat across from each other at. All day, we were engrossed in work but from time to time, I looked up at Lucas and he was looking back at me with complete adoration.
I blushed and looked back at my work.
This was the perfect life.
While Lucas finished finalizing things with the contractors, I headed to the school to pick up Hunter and Willow. Sometimes, it felt like we never stopped running around.
“Can I drive, Mom?” Hunter asked.
“No fair! I’m not old enough to drive. Hunter shouldn’t be able to drive with me in the car,” Willow argued immediately.
I smiled at my kids. “Willow, you’ll be able to drive soon enough. When that happens, you can drive Hunter around sometimes, too.”
“Pfft, not likely,” Hunter argued.
I gave him a look and handed him the keys. “You know, Hunter, you’re going to have to share the car with your sister. Don’t get used to having it to yourself.”
He shrugged and hopped in the driver’s seat.
“How was your day at school?”
Hunter shrugged again as he pulled away from the curb. “The usual–homework, teachers, nothing special.”
“Willow, how about you?” I turned around to look at her in the back seat.
“Well, Jerry tried to kiss me again in front of everyone! I kicked him and the teachers got mad at me.”
“Did you tell them what Jerry tried to do?”
“Yes. After that, the principal told me that I can’t go around kicking people, but she’d make sure Jerry never bothered me again.”
“I don’t care what the principal says, Willow, if you feel like you need to kick someone because they won’t stop trying to kiss you or touch you, you’ve got my permission to do that.”
Willow beamed a wide smile and nodded.
I loved being so immersed in the lives of my children and family. We were all very close. Silently, I wondered if anything could shake that bond and change that dynamic.
All through dinner and spending time with the kids, I was a little quiet and distant, moving through the motions. No one said anything, but when Lucas and I laid down for bed, he slipped his arm around my shoulders and hugged me close.
“You’ve been a little distant all evening. What’s going on with you?”
“I got some news.” I grabbed his shirt and nuzzled my face into his chest.
“Good news or bad news?”
“Well... I don’t know....”
“Sasha, what is it? What’s going on?” Lucas tipped my chin up and met my eyes with his. He looked so concerned.
I sighed heavily. After talking to him the other night, I wasn’t sure if he’d be happy about my news. I wasn’t even sure how to think of it yet.
“I went to the doctor the other day, and I’m pregnant.”
Lucas was quiet for a long time. He tensed against me. “I didn’t know you were having symptoms.”
“I wasn’t, not like with Hunter or Willow. That’s why I went to the doctor in the first place. I know you just said we didn’t miss out on having a large family....”
Lucas put his fingers against my lips. He smiled brightly. “Sasha, having another baby with you would make me the happiest man alive, okay? This is good news.”
I felt like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and I hugged myself closer to Lucas. “I’m so glad you feel that way!”
He hugged me and kissed my forehead. Then he peppered my face with kisses. I giggled and squirmed against him.
“What will we name our new baby?” Lucas asked.
“Ugh, I haven’t even thought about that. We did such a good job with Willow and Hunter.”
“We kind of have a forest theme, too.”
I chuckled. “Yeah... what other names fit in that theme?”
“Rowan is a good foresty name. So is Micah,” I suggested.
“Skye, Oakly.”
“It seems like we have a lot of possibilities.” I sighed and rested my head on Lucas’s shoulders.
“I know which room we should turn into a nursery. We can use the white guest room. I think the balcony off that room would be great for a nursery.”
I shuddered involuntarily, thinking of the time when Hunter had almost been taken by a shifter coming through the window.
“I don’t know....”
“Things have been quiet for a while now, Sasha. But we can put a big padlock on the door for nighttime if that helps.” Lucas chuckled and kissed the top of my head.
I liked that he could pick up on my thoughts so easily.
“Do you think the kids will be happy about this?”
“Why wouldn’t they be? They love each other... despite the bickering.”
“When should we tell them?”
Lucas thought about it for a moment. “I think we should tell them soon, give them a chance to help out with the nursery and planning. I bet they’d like that.”
My eyelids drooped and I placed a hand on my flat belly. Lucas covered my hand with his. He kissed me sweetly on the lips.
“This is just another Chapter of our life, Sasha.”
I nodded and yawned, succumbing to sleep quickly.
I dreamed of the new baby, the perfect new addition to our family. I dreamed of how much closer it would make all of us and how much happier. Somehow, it felt right to be having this baby now, after everything Lucas and I built together.
In my dreams, I smiled, feeling so blessed to have the quiet, simple life of my dreams with my mate and with my perfect children, including the one on the way.
After all the realms we traveled to, all the timelines we faced, the mysteries we solved, and the dangerous plots we stopped, I was happiest in this reality with my family.
