Chapter 1025 - 88 : Getting to the Bottom of It

Chapter 1025: Chapter 88 : Getting to the Bottom of It

I accompanied Sasha to the detainment room where Stone was being held and interrogated. Apparently, he was annoyingly stubborn in any reality.

“You really think you can get him to talk?” I asked Sasha.

She shrugged. “I think it is our best option. He might be surprised when he finds out I have my memories from the last timeline, enough to let something slip.”

“I don’t like the idea of you talking to him. He’s such an ass.”

Sasha grinned. “Well, duh. I bet if you were there with me, it would shake him up even more.”

“That’s what I’m hoping,” I agreed.

As soon as we entered the room, Stone glared at us. He scoffed and shook his head. “I should have known.”

“Did you really think I’d fall for your games?” Sasha asked.

Stone shrugged indifferently. “It doesn’t matter to me what you think or remember.”

Sasha creased her brow. I reached out and squeezed her hand comfortingly.

“Then why do it? Why mess with my life if you don’t even care?”

Stone chuckled and fixed his eyes on me. “Well, Sasha, it wasn’t about messing with you. I wanted to take everything from Lucas. He’s always had it so easy. He gets everything he wants. I wanted him to understand what it is like for the rest of us.”

A snarl rose in my throat and I took a step toward Stone.

“You messed with Sasha just to get back at me?!” I raised a fist at him.

“Don’t act so shocked. She’s the one thing I knew I could take from you that would make you fall apart completely. You should see the memories I have of her being with me and how much she loved me.”

I grimaced and turned away.

Sasha cringed beside me. She turned into me and I wrapped my arm around her.

“You’re sick! You’re sick and disgusting. And what’s worse, you’ve ruined everything!” Her voice cracked with desperation.

“Look, your relationship problems aren’t my problems, okay? I just wanted Lucas to know what it was like to have a life of failure.”

My wolf bristled and I felt him rise in my eyes. One more ignorant comment from him and I’d rip Stone’s face off....

The emptiness, loneliness, and anger that the Lucas of this timeline carried around his entire life burned in my chest.

He’d struggled through his entire life after the attack when he was just a child and was never the same after that.

I couldn’t help but wonder whether if Stone hadn’t kept Sasha for himself, if this Lucas might have stumbled across her sooner and she could have helped him reconnect with himself and his family.

Instinctively, I tightened my arms around Sasha more. I wasn’t going to let anything keep us apart again. I didn’t care what happened in any other timeline. We needed to be together. This timeline proved it.

“Everywhere I went, I was overlooked. Nobody cared about me. They just wanted Lucas. He’s the queen’s cousin. He’s so naturally gifted. Lucas, Lucas, Lucas,” Stone ranted.

“Are you serious?” Sasha snapped. “This whole thing was some petty revenge scheme for you? Did you ever once think about what messing with the timeline would do to everyone else!?”

Stone’s eyes widened for a moment. He studied Sasha with a deep frown.

“What do you mean? All I did was change a few things around for myself.”

“No, you idiot!” Sasha cried. She stepped away from me and threw her arms out to the sides.

I gave Sasha an appreciative smile. She was reaming Stone out better than I could.

“It was just for a little payback,” Stone said. “No one got hurt. Besides, the two of you are back together now. So, nothing really went wrong, right?”

Sasha snarled and stepped closer to Stone. Her eyes were wild and furious.

My heart fluttered at the sight of her. She was so gorgeous and terrifying at the same time. If she had her powers in this timeline, I had a feeling Stone would be flat against the wall.

“I think you’re overreacting, Sasha. You’re just... worked up. Trust me, nothing really bad happened.”

“Nothing except the fact that you completely threw the timelines out of balance and destroyed this Sasha’s life too! What you did.... This entire timeline is fragile and vulnerable. It will probably fall apart, and that includes your life. And you don’t have the future orb anymore, so you can’t run away.”

I saw Stone swallow hard. The blood drained from his face. He was finally starting to understand what he’d done. I hoped it haunted him for the rest of his life, no matter how short that was.

“No. That can’t be. She told me no one would get hurt.”

“She?” I asked. “Who are you talking about, Stone?”

His eyes shifted between Sasha and me. I could practically see his small pea brain trying to work things out. I rolled my eyes. Stone couldn’t be this stupid, could he?

“A priestess....”

“Priestess?” Sasha gasped and looked at me.

We were both thinking the same thing.

“Was this priestess Morianne, head of the Lycaon Church?” I asked.

Stone shifted in his seat, nervously. “Well....”

“You stupid ass!” Sasha snapped. She stepped toward Stone.

I grabbed her lightly, holding her back half-heartedly. If she wanted to break loose and pummel Stone for me, I was fine with that. We needed a little more information from him first.

“Look, she promised nothing would go wrong.”

“Well, surprise, surprise. She used you,” Shasha hissed.

Stone looked at me. “I don’t understand why she’s so worked up. It’s not like I messed with her that much.”

“Stone, you idiot,” I said. “She’s not mad because of what you did. She’s mad because of what you let Morianne do. Sasha is special. She’s a dream dancer. And because of what you did, Morianne stole her powers in this timeline.”

“O-oh....”

Finally, Stone had the decency to look ashamed of what he did.

“How could she?” he muttered.

“She took advantage of your desire for revenge, and it screwed everything up.”

“I didn’t know you had powers Sasha, and I really didn’t know Morianne was going to take them. She seemed like she wanted to help me get back on my feet. What’s the big deal, anyway?”

“Morianne has been after my powers in multiple timelines, and she doesn’t want use them to spread light and joy.”

“Uh....”

“On top of that, there’s a very powerful immortal being coming after me. Without my powers, I can’t defend against him, and he will kill the Sasha that belongs in this world. When that happens, Morianne will have complete domination over the orbs. She’ll be able to change any timeline to suit her needs.”

“Morianne is a beloved priestess of the Church. Do you really think she’d do that?” Stone arched an eyebrow.

Sasha scoffed and strained against my grip.

“What exactly did Morianne tell you?” I jumped in to change the subject.

As curious as I was to see Sasha jump on this guy and put him in his place, he’d only help us as long as she wasn’t beating the crap out of him.

“She gave me the information to get into the treasure vault in the palace. It wasn’t easy, believe me. I had to be very careful not to get caught. She told me the orb was what I needed to get everything I wanted. Beyond that, I didn’t question it.”

I rolled my eyes again. Of course, he didn’t. He couldn’t be more self-serving.

“After I got the orb, she told me how I could use it to change timelines and make things the way I wanted them. At first, I focused on my own career, until I got all the way to being the head of the Royal Engineers.”

“But that wasn’t enough for you, was it!?” Sasha snapped.

Stone paled slightly and cowered in her presence. She really was a force to be reckoned with, my Sasha.

“I didn’t think about you much because you didn’t come around for a while. I figured I got what I needed. Then I saw the two of you in the networking meeting at the palace, and I knew my work wasn’t done. I had to separate you two and make Lucas miserable or I’d never be satisfied.”

Stone gave a cruel smirk.

“Watch it!” I growled.

“You can threaten me all you want, the two of you. It won’t change what happened.”

I sighed. “Sasha, Stone is right. We can’t change what he did, but if he tells us what he knows about the orb and Morianne, then we can fix the problems he created.”

“The problems I created?!” Stone snapped.

“Yes, the problems you created. You trusted an evil priestess, you messed with the timeline, and you put all of us, and your reality, in jeopardy. Those are problems you created!” I hissed.

Stone shrank back in his chair, the blood completely draining from his face.

“Now, do you want to help us, or do you want me to let Sasha scratch your eyes out?”

Stone stuttered a moment and eyed Sasha with a nervous laugh. “O-okay, I’ll tell you what I know about the orb and Morianne.”

“Good choice.” I nodded. “When she came to you about the orb, did she tell you anything she wanted in the new timeline?”

Stone stroked his chin and again, his little pea brain seemed to be working really hard. How had this guy ever gotten as far as he did without the orb?

“She asked me to make a few adjustments to things from years ago, like back in my childhood.”

I glanced at Sasha. She nodded. So, that was how Morianne was able to steal Sasha’s powers this time. She had Stone do her dirty work for her, and then all she had to do was sit back and make herself the most important priestess in this timeline.

“Anything else?” I asked, glaring at him.

He shook his head. “No. She was very encouraging, telling me I deserved everything I wanted. She’s right, you know.”

Sasha scoffed and crossed her arms. “How could you use the orb?”

“Well, Morianne said that it was already activated. She gave me a jumpstart of her own magic, a temporary boost to use the orb. It’s gone now, so I can’t use it anymore.”

“Thank the Goddess for that,” Sasha muttered.

“Alright, Stone, I have one more question for you,” I said. “Trust me when I say, if you don’t answer truthfully, I’ll lose what’s left of my patience.”

“What do you want to know?”

“Tell us how to get back to our own reality.”

Stone shrank down in his chair. I could see the fear in his eyes. He looked toward the door, which was guarded. He knew there was no escape.

“I-I don’t know if it is possible... honestly, I don’t. But there is someone who might....”

“Morianne,” I hissed.
