Single for Eternity
Chapter 69: Attack

Chapter 69: Attack

Grimfall.

Einar took a step forward, his movements calm, deliberate, and surreal. The air around him grew heavy as he placed his hand on the kneeling girl’s head.

His fingers traced the curve of her chin, tilting her face toward him. His pitch-black eyes gleamed with an eerie light, an abyss that consumed all. When he spoke, his voice no longer bore the tone of a man—it was something ancient, something accursed.

"Go," he commanded, his words resonating with unnatural power. "Corrupt the others of this realm."

Livia gave a single nod, her obedience unquestioning. Without hesitation, she rose and sprinted out of the house, her silhouette vanishing into the night.

Left alone in the darkness, Einar’s lips curled into a knowing smile. The next instant, his figure faded into nothingness.

...

Back at the Castle

Tauriel tossed and turned in her bed, unable to find peace. No matter how she positioned herself, rest eluded her. Frustration set in, and with an annoyed groan, she sat up, rubbing her eyes. Her hair was a tangled mess, her face groggy with exhaustion.

I guess I should take a walk.

With a sigh, she got out of bed and stepped into the dimly lit corridor. The grand halls of the castle loomed around her, eerily silent at this late hour. She trudged forward, yawning, torn between the desperate need for sleep and the strange compulsion to stay awake.

That was when she felt it—a shadow shifting behind her.

Her body tensed. Whipping around, she scanned the corridor for any sign of movement. Nothing. Not even a flicker of candlelight disturbed the darkness.

That’s strange.’

Unease curled in her stomach. Tauriel wasn’t one to let curiosity slide, so she followed the sensation, her footsteps light, cautious. A quiet gulp escaped her lips as she advanced, her senses on high alert.

After what felt like an eternity of creeping through the corridors, she saw it—a fleeting figure slipping around the corner up ahead.

So, there was someone here.’

Her heart pounded as she picked up her pace, breaking into a quiet sprint. She ducked behind a large flower vase, her breath shallow as she peeked at the person she had pursued.

It was the well-endowed maid.

Even in the dim candlelight, her infamous presence was unmistakable. The malicious one, they called her, and for good reason. She was constantly muttering about killing Einar like every single hour non-stop.

She was a different version of Laura who had fierce loyalty for the Sanguis family especially Lord Varek.

But there was something off about her tonight.

A dark robe enveloped her body, obscuring her features. She stood motionless before Einar’s chamber, her fingers wrapped tightly around a gleaming knife.

Tauriel’s breath hitched. ’She’s finally lost it!

There was only one thing that malicious maid in black robe dead in the night holding a sharp knife could do.

The realization struck her like a bolt of lightning—this maid intended to kill him.

Panic surged through her veins. Tauriel clenched the fabric of her maid uniform, her mind racing. ’If she goes through with this, she’ll die a careless death. I have to stop her.’

Gathering her resolve, she prepared to lunge forward—only to pause at the last moment. A thought slithered into her mind, an unshakable hunch.

If it’s him... maybe he’ll let her live. Maybe he’ll just see this as a joke.’

At the last second Tauriel decided to use this chance to test whether the sneaky suspicion she had about Einar was true or not.

With bated breath, she crouched by the window, peering into the chamber to witness what would unfold.

...

The well-endowed maid raised the blade, gripping it in a reverse hold. Her lips curled into a euphoric smile as she brought the knife down.

Once.

Twice.

A third time, as if ensuring the deed was done.

Tauriel’s eyes widened in horror. ’She just... she just killed Einar?’

She couldn’t believe the guy who single handedly defeated a giant spider was killed by a stupid little maid.

Dread pooled in her stomach. ’My chance for revenge against this wretched town... gone.’

But before despair could fully settle, something changed.

The room darkened.

No—it was more than that. Light didn’t just fade; it was swallowed, consumed, eradicated. A void formed, a darkness so dense that not even the faintest glimmer of light could escape it.

From her vantage point, Tauriel could no longer see anything beyond the oppressive blackness. But inside...

Inside, the well-endowed maid’s world had ended.

The darkness revealed itself, a living entity with countless eyes. They snapped open in every direction, rabid, unrelenting, insatiable.

And she—

She had nothing left.

Her body, her soul, her very existence unraveled, stripped bare before the abyss. She was being unmade, fragmented into oblivion. Memories shattered, her consciousness dissolving like sand in the wind.

Fear was the last thing to remain.

When she finally disappeared, the darkness shifted. It reassembled itself, forming something new—a vessel.

A familiar shape emerged, bearing the features of the well-endowed maid but lacking any trace of individuality. Her new form knelt before the figure that materialized from the darkness.

Einar.

But not Einar.

There was no warmth in this presence, no human essence. He was something else entirely.

She lifted her head, gazing at him with unwavering devotion.

"At your service, Lord Skin."

His form solidified, his black eyes gleaming as he regarded his newest thrall.

"Get up."

The maid obeyed without hesitation.

His voice was low, authoritative. "Act as if nothing happened. But subtly, make it known—I am the true Einar."

She gave a single, unquestioning nod.

"Good."

With a flick of his wrist, the darkness receded. The suffocating presence vanished, and the chamber returned to its former state, illuminated by the soft glow of candlelight.

Outside the window, Tauriel remained frozen in place.

From her perspective, the maid had tried to attack—but she had failed. And Einar...

He just appeared out of thin air within the darkness and made the ever so rebellious maid kneel in front of him.
