Chapter 63: Fight!! Fight!!
Unfortunately for me, the supposed adversaries never arrived. I stood in the dead center of the clearing, waiting in anticipation, my mind conjuring up all sorts of dramatic entrances they might make.
Would they descend upon me like a swarm of locusts, overwhelming me with sheer numbers? Or perhaps they would stealthily approach, lurking in the shadows before striking with precision? Yet, as the minutes stretched into hours, reality shattered my expectations. The enemy never came.
’Are they having a meal or something??’
With a resigned sigh, I plopped down near the edge of the pond, picking up small pebbles and flicking them into the still water.
Each stone sent ripples across the surface, disrupting the mirror-like reflection of the starless sky above. The night remained eerily silent, a suffocating void of darkness stretching infinitely across the heavens, devoid of celestial comfort.
Eventually, my boredom won over my patience. With a childish grin, I slipped off my boots and dipped my feet into the water, relishing the chilling sensation against my skin.
A giggle escaped my lips—an odd contrast to the grim reality of my situation. For a brief moment, I allowed myself to indulge in the simple pleasure, kicking at the water and watching the droplets dance in the air.
Then, just as the first hints of dawn painted the horizon in pale hues of orange and pink, I heard it—a rhythmic, metallic clatter echoing through the still morning air. The sound of heavy boots crushing the grass, of armor clinking with every deliberate step.
’Finally!!! Took you all long enough.’
I rose to my feet, stretching my arms, cracking my neck, and flexing my fingers in preparation. My eyes darted toward the grass path leading from the town, where the figures of my so-called adversaries finally emerged.
’They’re... straightforward, I guess?’
The dim morning light barely illuminated them, but I counted at least ten—maybe fifteen—knights. Their forms were shrouded in a pitch-black hue, a dark aura pulsating around them, seeping from the very core of their beings. Even through the slits of their helmets, I could see the eerie glow of their eyes—void-like, unnatural.
’They used their "Enchant" spell.’
Or was it still active? It had to be the blessing of the corrupted god. There was no other explanation, of course maybe they were magic geniuses but I don’t think so. My gut told me I was right, and So, I would believe them.
Then, leading from the back, a familiar figure emerged—the old noble. His wounds had healed, but the sheer disgust and rage twisting his features remained unchanged. His hand clutched at his head, as if he could still feel the remnants of the damage I had inflicted upon him.
A grin crept onto my face as I watched him, my amusement barely contained. The way his white hair swayed in the stagnant air, like rusted leaves clinging to the last vestiges of autumn—it was almost poetic.
His eyes locked onto mine, recognition dawning in them before morphing into fury. He spat his words with venom. "You damn mongrel! Where are those bastards who were with you?"
I clicked my tongue, waving my hand dismissively. "Damn, your wording, mister noble. And about those people? Nahh, I won’t tell."
He smirked mockingly, his lips curling into a sneer. "Good. When they beat you to a pulp, you will tell me everything."
I flashed an ear-to-ear grin, reveling in the way his face twisted with barely restrained anger. "Just admit it—you’re salty because I blasted your watermelon head."
His entire body tensed, his rage reaching its boiling point. I could practically see the steam rising from his ears. With a furious snarl, he turned to his knights and barked out an order. "Surround him! Encircle the bastard! Do not let him escape! Use your invincible strength to bypass any obstacles!"
In that moment, his demeanor shifted. Gone was the pathetic, lecherous noble. The man before me now was a seasoned commander, his voice carrying authority and absolute command.
’Still a stupid one, though. Why the hell would you blurt out your entire plan like that?’
If I knew they were going to encircle me, why would I just stand here and let them do it?
But then—
"DOME."
The word left his lips, and in an instant, a semi-transparent black veil engulfed the area. The same ominous, ink-like energy that blanketed this entire cursed town now formed a barrier around us, a hundred meters in diameter.
’Well, well... I guess I’m fucked.’
"Ahahahahaha!" The old noble threw his head back, his laughter booming. "Where’s your arrogance now, brat?"
I frowned, scanning my surroundings. The knights were slow—painfully so—but as they followed their orders, their formation tightened around me, their stiff yet deliberate movements designed to trap me like a rat in a cage.
I had to stop them. No, I had to defeat them if I wanted to have any chance of survival or mainly get captured and enter the castle.
I inhaled deeply, taking in the still morning air, my mind whirring with calculations. Observing how their armor functioned, how their movements were rigid and mechanical, I searched for weaknesses.
Then I found it.
’They’re slow and stiff... that’s my advantage.’
A smirk crept onto my lips as I ran a hand through my hair, hunching slightly into a ready stance. The next moment—
I blurred.
In a heartbeat, I appeared before the knight at the front, my foot swinging forward to kick his knee. He staggered, his balance faltering, and using the momentum, I drove my knee into his helmet with all my strength.
Then—
Pain.
A sharp, searing agony shot through my leg. My knee met unyielding metal, and instead of his armor denting, my flesh was the one to give. Blood splattered against the knight’s visor, and the jagged edge of my broken knee dangled loosely, the shredded muscle exposed to the morning air.
’Well... well... what the actual fuck?!’
A pained grunt escaped my lips as I stumbled backward, putting distance between myself and the knight. He struggled to regain his footing, his movements sluggish. Meanwhile, my wound pulsated with unbearable pain—until, as if on cue, it began to heal. The torn flesh stitched itself back together, the pain ebbing away like a fleeting nightmare.
My eyes narrowed.
’Alright, round two.’
I clenched my fists, rolling my shoulders, the adrenaline coursing through my veins like fire.
’Fuck it. Here we go!’
