Chapter 81: Chapter 81

Drago glanced at her with a knowing look. "Is it going to happen now?" he asked her.

Hana just nodded, "Yeah, I don’t know if they want to come for this, but I’ll at least let them know so they can’t complain that I didn’t let them know." She replied, a tired sigh escaping from her mouth.

Luan looked at his parents with a confused look on his face. "What are you talking about?"

Drago motioned for Hana to explain it as he continued eating. She sighed, rolling her eyes at her husband’s laziness. But it made sense.

"It’s about my parents and family. They might come to the engagement announcement." She explained.

Now it all made sense to Luan; his maternal family was rather peculiar. They came from a far-off country, the Republic of Elistar, an island ruled by the Elistar royal family.

And his mother’s family, the Mirellos family, was rather infamous, with all kinds of bad rumors floating around, at least over there. Here in the empire, no one knew about them except Drago, of course.

"So that’s why you were acting like that. Because they might come to the engagement announcement and ruin it?" Luan inquired, not mincing his words at all.

Hana chuckled at her son’s words; it looked like he had completely misunderstood. It made sense, however; Luan had never visited his maternal family because he had been born in the empire and lived his whole life on the mainland.

"No, that’s not what I meant. But because they have never seen you and you’re a precious grandchild, they might come bearing a few too many gifts for an engagement, and they could overstay their welcome." Hana said, with a smile on her face. As memories of her own childhood started resurfacing.

A precious time when she didn’t have to worry about anything and was showered with love and affection. Unlike in the empire, where many families were very harsh on their children to make sure they wouldn’t disappoint them.

In Elistar the culture was completely different because they were an island on the sea, so they couldn’t expand, so they focused more on trade and tradition. This approach made them one of the richest countries on the planet.

"But how did you get that idea about my family?" Hana inquired, narrowing her eyes and looking straight at Drago.

Whom tried his best to not make eye contact with Hana. Just as he was about to stand up, someone knocked on the door.

’That was some seriously bad timing.’ Drago mused, still not meeting Hana’s eyes and glancing around the room while trying to signal to Luan to not rat him out.

Liana entered the room, followed by her two attendants and the royal guards. "Good afternoon, everyone," she politely greeted everyone.

Luan and the others all nodded back at her, and she took a seat at the head of the table once more.

"Father told me." Luan suddenly blurted out with a shrug.

There was no way he would take the downfall for something his father did wrong. Let him face the consequences of his own actions. With a smug look on his face, Luan turned his attention to Liana.

"After you finish eating, I have the papers ready so we can start discussing them then," he stated.

Liana nodded, a little surprised, but she silently kept eating while observing what was happening between Hana and Drago.

Drago was looking around, sweating bullets, while Hana just silently glared at him. "We will talk about that later," she said.

"Princess, do you have any idea when the announcement will be and if it will happen?" she asked, changing the topic smoothly.

"Mother told me that she will send the letter normally, so it will take a week or two, and then another week to prepare the banquet and invite all the relevant nobles. So in about a month, and yes, it will happen; she has already confirmed it." Liana replied.

"How are you so sure, or do you have a way to communicate with her majesty?" Hana inquired, curiosity getting the better of her.

Liana was talking like she was in direct contact with the Empress, even though they were in different territories. Well, knowing the imperial family, it was definitely a possibility.

Liana looked around nervously. "Yes, I am in direct contact with her. But don’t spread it; it’s technically a secret." she whispered.

Hana, Drago, and Luan all nodded. "Your secret is safe here, princess, don’t worry." Hana reassured her.

"Maybe my parents and siblings will come as well for the engagement announcement. Would that be a problem?" she continued.

Liana glanced at Hana. "The Mirellos family," she muttered, deep in thought. "I’ll ask my mother and tell you tomorrow or the day after. Is that okay?"

"Thank you, princess. That is perfectly fine."

And like that, lunch concluded, and Luan and Liana went outside once more and sat down at the terrace.

Luan looked quite disappointed as he leaned back into the chair, looking at the blue sky.

"Why couldn’t we go to your bedroom? We’re basically engaged already," he said.

Liana rolled her eyes. "It isn’t announced yet. And only after we are married will that be allowed, the same for all the other wives." She sternly replied.

When Luan heard that, his eyes widened in disbelief. He would have to wait that long? Wait, she only said wives. Did that mean...? Thinking of the possibility, a glimmer of hope appeared in his eyes.

"My dear Liana, you only said wives, right? So does that mean...?" He carefully inquired, crossing his fingers and patiently waiting for her answer.

Liana looked at Luan, then at her two attendants, and after carefully weighing the pros and cons, she came to a decision. "Fine, but only if you get my explicit permission," she stated.

"Deal!" Luan shouted with no hesitation.

That just means he had to wrap her around his finger, and it’s basically guaranteed. It won’t be easy, but it’s definitely possible.

And just like that, with a grin on his face, he took out the papers he had prepared to show and explain to her and the two others.
