The Spirit King’s voice reached them through Mira, and the spirits immediately changed their reaction. There was no longer any doubt—they knew they were hearing the Spirit King’s voice and no longer needed to question it.
The light spirit, Lunanlied, let out a joyous shout, asking, 「Is that you, Spirit King?!」 while the water spirit, Fontaine, broke down into tears, crying, 「That’s his voiceee…!」
「Mira, what is happening here?」
Now it was Bruce who was confused, watching as Mira and the two spirits held hands. Mira turned her head and explained that she was letting the two listen to the Spirit King’s voice.
「Is… is that actually possible?」
Hearing that, Bruce looked even more surprised than the spirits. He took a step forward, wanting to hear it as well, but then stopped himself. Seeing how deeply entranced Lunanlied and Fontaine were, he didn’t feel it was right to intrude.
Anyone who was close to spirits—or had studied history—knew that the Spirit King had left this realm many millennia ago. Bruce reassured himself that he could simply ask Mira about it later and talk to the Spirit King himself then. For now, he managed to restrain his curiosity and waited for the conversation to end. Mira also remained silent, serving only as the medium through which they communicated.
「Thank you so much for this, Mira.」
「I’m so glad to know that the Spirit King is having fun again.」Once they had spoken their fill, the two spirits smiled and let go of Mira’s hands. It was clear that the Spirit King and the two spirits deeply cared for one another, and their bond had not weakened, even after countless years. That sentiment resonated with Mira, and she replied with a warm smile, 「It was my pleasure.」
「Moving on, we still need to—」
「Wait, do we still need to do it? I mean, the Spirit King already approves of her…」
The spirits returned to their roles as gatekeepers, with Lunanlied resuming her stern demeanor. But Fontaine interrupted, raising a valid question. Their job was to judge who was worthy to enter Valhalla, but was there really a need to test someone already approved by a higher being like the Spirit King?
「I mean, that’s a valid point… But we should stick to the usual routine. It wouldn’t do to set a bad precedent, unless we want unnecessary trouble down the line.」
「Hmm… I get what you mean. But it also feels unnecessary to ask for proof when we already know the answer…」
The two spirits began whispering back and forth, trying to reach a conclusion. Mira overheard snippets of their conversation again, sighed in exasperation, and deployed a Rosario Summoning Circle.
「Bring me that pure white healing power from your spiral.」
After her chant, a white serpent appeared, coiling around Mira’s neck before slithering down her arm. She raised her arm toward the spirits and said, 「Here, this should be enough, right?」
Mira knew that following tradition would be much faster than waiting for them to finish their argument.
「It looks like we made her take care of it… what should we do?」
「What do you mean? Just go on with it.」
Their debate had taken so long that Mira resolved the matter herself before they could reach a conclusion. Now they didn’t have to worry about the test—but they did feel a bit guilty for making her go through the trouble.
「…Ahem. Impressive. Your power is deemed fit to pass through the gate.」
Although the spirits returned to their official tone, they still seemed slightly awkward, their words coming out a little too quickly—clearly trying to mask their feelings.
「We shall prepare the Rainbow Bridge then.」
With that, Lunanlied took Mira’s hand, while Fontaine took Bruce’s. Then they raised their hands together.
Mira and Bruce offered no resistance, letting their hands move exactly as the spirits guided them. A plume of water shot up from the lake, scattering into misty droplets that refracted the sunlight from above, forming a faint rainbow.
But things didn’t end there. The rainbow gradually became more vivid, and after about three minutes, it turned completely solid, with one end anchored to the flower garden.
「Ohh…incredible.」
Small steps formed along the rainbow, transforming it into a tall, glowing staircase that stretched into the sky, with Valhalla awaiting them at the other end. Bruce stared up at it, his heart pounding—he was closer than ever to his goal. Meanwhile, the two spirits stepped in front of him with smug smiles.
Bruce quickly thanked them for opening the way, and, unable to wait any longer, exclaimed, 「Let’s go then, Mira!」 before dashing up the stairs.
「Take careee!」
「Come visit us again sometimeee!」
Mira waved at the two spirits, then hurried to catch up with Bruce on the staircase.
While Lunanlied and Fontaine had been speaking with the Spirit King, they had mentioned that, as gatekeepers entrusted with an important duty, they could not enter into any summoning Contracts. That was a disappointing truth for Mira, who felt they would’ve been a cheerful pair to keep around. But for now, all she could do was continue climbing the stairs.
The view from the Rainbow Staircase was a strange sight.
After passing through a bright veil of light, they found themselves high above Ferz Island. The ground below shrank with each step they took, while the sky drew ever closer. About twenty steps later, they emerged above a vast sea of clouds.
(It always feels so weird to see this happen.)
The sky had been perfectly clear during their flight to Ferz Island, meaning these clouds hadn’t existed above the island. In other words, they were already entering a different place—a divine realm.
「He’s really enthusiastic about this, huh.」
Looking up, she could see Bruce still running ahead, his excitement undimmed. He would stop at random moments, swinging his head around wildly to take in the scenery, before darting forward again.
Mira was already living in a world different from her own, but now she found herself in a separate realm within that—a strange realization. It also made her wonder: if heaven existed, was it a place like this?
The staircase made every moment feel more significant, each step bringing them closer to a cluster of countless floating islands, spiraling upward in a helical pattern as far as the eye could see.
That breathtaking formation of islands was Valhalla.
