She Holds the World After Being Reborn -
Chapter 274 - 273: Survive to Take Revenge
Chapter 274: Chapter 273: Survive to Take Revenge
Li Chengxiang felt a desolate sensation rise from the bottom of his heart, his little face that had been reddened by crying was now completely devoid of color.
She lay there dully on the ground, unable to utter a single word.
The Lord Li outside the door had already left, cursing as he went, saying that he was going to settle accounts with Wang Quan.
The two maids inside the room stepped forward and pulled the numb Li Chengxiang up.
"Miss, let us serve you in your bath now,"
Just as the maid’s hand touched Li Chengxiang’s clothes, she began to struggle frantically, "Don’t, don’t touch me!"
What did it matter if her father had agreed?
What did it matter if he had signed?
If it was not with her own willing heart, nobody should even think of taking advantage of her!
In such straits, Li Chengxiang felt a decisive force arising within her.
She thrashed wildly and the two maids momentarily could not cope, allowing her to break free.
Li Chengxiang opened the door and ran out, but having not eaten all day, how could she outrun two maids skilled in martial arts? She was soon pinned down in the courtyard.
The maid, too, was infuriated.
"You choose punishment over a polite offer of wine," she snapped as she slapped Li Chengxiang twice, causing her cheeks to swell and redden.
"Just because we felt pity for you and gave you advice, you dare to disobey like this. If you disturb the noble officials outside with your shouting, we could lose our heads!" The maid, having barely recovered her wits, wiped the cold sweat from her forehead.
That fright had seemed to shorten their lives by several years.
Li Chengxiang’s mouth was stuffed full with a handkerchief by the maids, and her hands were restrained, leaving her only able to emit helpless moans.
Her eyes were full of stubbornness and rebellion, like a young calf willing to put up a fight for its life.
She hated herself for considering that faint father-daughter connection, following her father to this place.
She hated herself for still having a sliver of hope in this world, which had landed her in such a situation.
Her younger sister might be evil, but she spoke the truth.
She should never have trusted men.
Even if one of those men was her own father!
The more Li Chengxiang thought, the angrier she got, struggling with all her might.
Seeing that she couldn’t control her, a maid punched Li Chengxiang in the abdomen, causing her to whimper in pain.
"If the miss continues like this, we will not show mercy," threatened the maid.
She had seen plenty of disobedient noble ladies over the years, but hadn’t they all eventually become tractable under their treatment?
There had been many like Li Chengxiang, and they all ended up with the same fate.
That was to be obedient!
The maid was ruthless. Li Chengxiang, having been pampered since childhood, had never suffered this kind of abuse. The punch almost made her vomit bile, leaving her entire body in excruciating pain.
Seeing that she had become silent, the maid sneered, "That’s more like it. Being obedient is the only way to live."
Li Chengxiang’s eyes were brimming with tears, mixed with hatred.
To survive, to live on was the only way to seek revenge!
She had to live.
She didn’t want to die.
She had promised Wa Chengnan to live well, she couldn’t die.
The maids dragged Li Chengxiang back into the room and shut the door. They had only removed half of her clothes when suddenly one of the maids cried out in surprise.
"Who are you, and how did you get in here!"
On the little stool beside the bathtub, sat a young girl, legs crossed, eating grapes.
With a pair of peach blossom-like eyes that sparkled and a lovely set of small tiger teeth revealed when she smiled, she was incredibly charming.
So young and already showing signs of a beauty, she would undoubtedly be a nation’s downfall when she grew up.
However, such an exceptional beauty had never been seen or heard of by the two maids before.
Right now, they saw her sitting so calmly on a small stool.
The two couldn’t help but become somewhat vigilant.
"Speak up!"
Yan Lingzhen spat out a grape seed onto the ground, her mouth lusciously moist from the fruit: "Your quality control here is not bad; every grape is sweet, I’ve tried them all."
She had eaten more than half of the grapes on the plate.
They had just chased someone out when she entered.
Upon seeing Yan Lingzhen, Li Chengxiang’s eyes immediately lit up: "Wuwuwu!" Miss Yan Six, save me!
Yan Lingzhen gave her a reassuring look, signaling her to relax, for she had come precisely to rescue her today.
"What a feisty little thing you are; this is not a marketplace, don’t tell me you’ve wandered into the wrong place," the maid sneered.
Yan Lingzhen uncrossed her legs, stood up from the chair, and patted the non-existent dust off her clothes: "If I deem this place to be a marketplace, then it is; I can come and go as I please within the Imperial Palace, let alone your pathetic little temple. If I want to leave, who among you can stop me?"
"Such arrogance!" The maid found Yan Lingzhen’s blind confidence to be utterly laughable.
A little girl whose thighs weren’t even as thick as her own arms dared to spout such nonsense in front of them.
They had no idea which family’s naive little girl this was, so innocent and oblivious to the ways of the world.
"Since you’re here, you might as well meet our master first. If you’re capable, even our master can’t keep you here," the maid said, her eyes glittering with malevolence.
There was an unwritten rule in Wang Quan’s place.
Whether they were young ladies or maids, anyone who Wang Quan had admitted could take their indenture papers and leave, settling all debts.
This little girl in front of them had a charming appearance and was very clever, with a natural demeanor that, needless to say, was much more refined than many noble girls from the Capital City.
If it was her, maybe she could be worth two people’s freedom for their own.
Thinking this, the two maids exchanged a look, seeing the eagerness in each other’s eyes.
Yan Lingzhen didn’t know what they were plotting, but she was certain it wasn’t anything good.
She chuckled lightly: "Of course, I’m to see Wang Quan, but not by going to him; you should have him come to see your granny here."
To go and see Wang Quan in person would be giving him too much face.
"You’ve got some nerve—" one of the maids began angrily, but was quickly stopped by the other, who shook her head and whispered, "She managed to slip past so many watchful eyes to get here; she must possess some skills. You better go inform the master."
The maid thought about it and felt she was right.
Swallowing her words, she changed her tune: "Then just wait here; I’ll go call the master immediately."
"I’ll be waiting for you," yawned Yan Lingzhen.
Now, only the second maid remained in the room, gripping Li Chengxiang tightly and staring unblinkingly at Yan Lingzhen, afraid she might make a move.
Yet Yan Lingzhen was like most children, full of curiosity, flipping through things here and there in the room.
In the end, she pounced onto the soft bed: "You’re taking too long; I’ll rest for a bit."
The second maid was astounded to see her actually close her eyes to rest, marveling at how at ease she could be.
Li Chengxiang didn’t share Yan Lingzhen’s composure. She thought of Miss Yan Six as just a child and now felt guilty for this child coming to her rescue, blaming herself for dragging her into this mess.
If anything were to happen, she would not have the face to see Princess Anping again.
Thinking this, Li Chengxiang felt even more remorse.
Every nerve in her tightened, fearing the maid beside her might lunge at Yan Lingzhen with ill intent.
She was constantly vigilant, planning that if anything were to happen, she would rush to shield her with her body, buying time for Miss Yan Six to escape!
