Chapter 122: Chapter 122: This Woman, Not to Be Underestimated
"As the legitimate eldest daughter of the Li family, Sister, you must broaden your horizons. We are one family and must present a united front to support and share the burden with our father," Li Chengyuan said, following behind the elder Mr. Li.
Li Chengxiang clenched her fists tightly; her facial expressions were unpredictable, but eventually, they settled into calmness.
"Daughter understands and apologizes for troubling Father."
Seeing Li Chengxiang make the first concession, the elder Mr. Li’s demeanor softened considerably. He nodded at Li Chengxiang, "Yuanyuan, come with Father to the study. There’s something I need to ask you." With that, he walked ahead.
Li Chengyuan did not immediately follow but stood in front of Li Chengxiang, observing her tightly clenched fists. She smiled slightly, "Sister, see? This is the state of women’s lives in a male-dominated society. You relish in it, Sister, but I beg to differ. From now on, as long as we don’t interfere with each other, it’s fine by me. If Sister wishes to kneel, then kneel forever."
She spoke a stream of words that Li Chengxiang couldn’t fully grasp and then, swaying her hips, followed Mr. Li’s steps.
A silent maid, daring not to make a sound until now, quickly approached and began to defend her mistress as soon as everyone was far enough away.
"Why did Master blame Miss without even asking questions... It must have been the third sister who spoke ill of you in Master’s ear."
"Enough!" Li Chengxiang rebuked with a cold face. "Remember to speak less of such things in the future."
The maid quickly nodded: "Yes, I know my wrong."
Seeing Li Chengxiang’s expression soften slightly, the maid looked at the three men on the ground and said, "What shall we do with these three ruffians?"
"Send them to the authorities," Li Chengxiang said without lifting her eyelids. "They must be villains who have done many wrongdoings. I encountered a benefactor this time and avoided disaster, but others aren’t as lucky as I am. These people are scum if they remain in this world—have the family guards take them to the officials."
As for whether Father is willing to understand what exactly happened to her...
Li Chengxiang had lost interest by now.
Those who abandon me, whether yesterday or today, should not be retained.
If he is now willing to listen to Li Chengyuan’s words, then let him listen.
After all, Li Chengxiang had always relied on herself to survive since she was young.
Thinking this way, she felt much more relaxed.
Watching the family guards tie up and escort the ruffians out the door, Li Chengxiang’s eyes shone coldly, somethings had unconsciously changed.
Meanwhile, on the other side...
After some delay, Yan Wanqing found herself followed by several tails.
She stepped over the rooftops and descended from the sky, landing gently on the ground, as the tails closed in on her.
"You’ve followed for so long, you must be tired?" she said.
Realizing they’d been discovered, several plain-clothes men showed themselves.
"Princess Anping’s martial arts are quite impressive; we’ve lost you several times along the way," said the speaker in a suppressed voice, but still couldn’t hide the effeminate air.
Yan Wanqing looked over and saw his nondescript features. She raised an eyebrow, "Your face-changing technique still needs work, the ear’s edge is lifting."
"I’m no match for the Commandery Princess’s nimble hands and clever mind," the man replied, not taking offense and chuckling. He stopped disguising his voice, revealing his natural tone—it was the same group who had tried to assassinate her in the woods last time.
"Enemies often cross paths, don’t they? With so many of you here, I believe you are indeed intent on taking my life today." Yan Wanqing showed fear, "If that’s the case, let me die with a clear understanding. Who exactly wants my life?"
The effeminate man shook his head, "Whether or not we can kill the Commandery Princess should not be stated so absolutely. After all, there are so many experts around you, and you’ve also regained much of your martial strength. We dare not speak too boldly. As for what the Commandery Princess wants to know, it might be best to wait until after you’re really dead, then you can go and ask King Yan directly; everything will be clear then."
After hearing this, Yan Wanqing snorted coldly, "This is not allowed, that’s not okay, you act like an effeminate man—are you perhaps an eunuch from the palace?!"
Now that she had warmed up in the alley, she decided to use them for some practice and see if her martial techniques had improved.
The man who was cursed as a eunuch glared at Yan Wanqing with sinister, lifeless eyes.
Yan Wanqing chuckled, "Oh, I really guessed right, someone from the palace."
She looked around at the six figures standing in the courtyard, all men, with lean bodies, faces covered, but their eyes all held a hint of feminine softness, standing there without the imposing presence of normal men.
It turned out to be people from within the palace.
After the last assassination attempt, she had mobilized many forces, yet she had never thought to investigate the palace.
It seemed she had acquired this clue without any effort.
"Enough talk, attack!" The eunuch issued a grim command, and the other eunuchs immediately drew their weapons, launching an attack on Yan Wanqing!
Yan Wanqing had no weapons on her. She casually picked up a discarded table from the ground, spinning it through the air in a large arc, forcing the charging men back. Seizing this gap, she slammed the table to the ground, holding onto one of the legs in her hand.
Yan Wanqing, holding the leg of the chair, pointed it at them, a provocative smile at the corners of her lips.
"Come on, is this all you’ve got?"
The eunuchs couldn’t stand such provocation and charged at Yan Wanqing in a frenzy, all of which she dealt with with ease.
Only now did the effeminate eunuch realize that something was amiss.
"Your Martial Arts are so profound!" None of the people alongside the Yan Wanqing he had encountered before in the little forest were on the same level.
After snapping the neck of a eunuch without any mercy, Yan Wanqing naturally snatched his weapon—a long sword.
She weighed it in her hand for a moment.
She thought to herself that it was no match for her Green Snake, but unfortunately, she had already given the Green Snake to her fifth sister. From here on out, she’d have to go back to Iron Horse Street and ask the master to make her a new sword that she could handle well.
Although this sword wasn’t as good as the Green Snake, it was more useful than a table leg, better than nothing at all.
While she was inwardly sighing, her mouth wasn’t idle either, answering the eunuch’s question, "Or else why do you think I lured you all here?"
She didn’t run into the city in the middle of the night but to a deserted, abandoned yard in the suburbs.
"Not good! Retreat!"
The eunuch shouted, attempting to scatter and flee in all directions.
They had thought they were the hunters, never expecting to be outwitted by a single Yan Wanqing.
They thought in terms of numbers they were superior, but never imagined that all of them together weren’t a match for one Yan Wanqing.
"Too late." The long sword in Yan Wanqing’s hand moved as if it had eyes of its own, spinning rapidly in the air under her control, turning the entire courtyard into a seemingly endless blade enclosure.
The eunuch couldn’t believe his eyes, "No wonder... No wonder they wanted your life at any cost!"
With such a terrifying figure as Yan Wanqing, who in the Capital City would be her match once she fully recovered her martial strength?
Especially with such fearsome strategy!
This woman, not to be underestimated!
The eunuch was terribly frightened, but being a trained assassin, the five men quickly regrouped to face Yan Wanqing’s onslaught, barely managing to counter her.
Yan Wanqing, however, grew more and more excited with each attack. Her normally cold eyes sparkled with fiery light.
"Slow, too slow! With your level of martial strength, even ten more years wouldn’t be enough to kill me, Yan Wanqing!"
