Chapter 66: Chapter SIXTY SIX

- KILLIAN -

I press my nose on her hair and inhale. She scents so nice that I shut my eyes just to enjoy the euphoria I got by her scent. I can tell the shampoo she used is raspberry flavoured.

I clutch my arm around her stomach and pull her closer to me. Hazel is fast asleep. She’s been asleep since the moment I laid her on the bed, then there’s me, hours later, still fully awake doing my own way of protecting.

I swallow.

That wasn’t much of protecting. My mind argues, drifting to our short-lived moment in my living room. What I did earlier, waiting till she screamed before releasing her was wrong.

I exhale briefly out my nose, holding her closer to me. Her back presses hard on my chest and I cuddle her from behind.

Back then, I heard her. I heard her call my name regarding her hands but I didn’t listen. I chose not to because my sick self took delight in hearing her whimper in pain. I wanted to inflict more. It turned me on badly and I hate myself for it.

That’s why I needed to end it. I rest my jaw above her head, letting my fingers dance on her soft stomach. I need to work on my hunger for inflicting pain on people, especially with her. I need to control myself on when to stop.

Hazel moans. I open my eyes and look down at her. She’s still fast asleep. Her body turns to the other side. Now she’s facing me. I tilt my head lower to gaze at her face. She looks so peaceful and innocent when she’s asleep. Like she has no worry in the world.

My lips flatten to a curve. I love staring at her.

I lean my hand forward to touch her face. My thumb gently brushes her cheek while tucking the strands of hair falling on her face behind her ear.

She didn’t even feel it.

There’s no way in hell that someone would touch me in my sleep and I wouldn’t know. Heck, I’ll hear the person’s movements and the human will have to look at me to see my eyes open and explain.

Not her though. She’s one person I’m comfortable sharing a bed with. Only person to be honest.

I lean my head forward and press my lips on her forehead, giving her a gentle kiss. "I won’t ever hurt you again. I won’t give you a reason to worry. As long as I’m alive." I whisper into her skin.

I take my head off, admiring her. I should be working. I should be looking for the other copies of the flash drive and proceed with searching for the killer. I should be more involved with my business while having meetings with S. It’s been a while since I’ve had focus on any of it and it bothers me but I promised to be with her all night.

One more lazy night off my duties is doable.

Hazel’s brows furrows and her lips spread ajar slightly.

I sit up, keeping my attention on her. She murmurs something stupid, that’s definitely not English so I don’t bother to find out what, and now, she rolls backwards, further away from me to the side of my bed before turning to face me.

I wonder what she’s dreaming about that’s causing such discomfort. I lay down back.

She’s so far away from my reach.

No matter what the dream is, I don’t like her being away from me. I miss feeling her body on mine already. I lean forward, stretching my hand lower, pinning my hand in between her legs before dragging her to me.

A slight gasp as her body gets pulled forward slides in my ears. She woke up. Shit. But oh, how I love pulling her to me through her ass.

"What happened?" The hoarse, gentle, sleepy voice of Hazel resonates in my ears.

"Shh, shh, shh, shh, nothing. It’s okay, sleep." I hush, whispering. I don’t want the sleep clearing off her eyes. I just wanted to feel her.

I placed my palm on her cheek and pull her gently to me, trying to calm her down. "Go to sleep, kitten." I whisper, cuddling her body in mine.

She slowly regains composure and rests at my touch, fixing my arm underneath her head to serve as a pillow. I let my other hand dangle down her body till it rests on her ass which I grope. I slip her legs in mine, trapping her in my embrace before letting my hand rest on her waist.

I place a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Goodnight, princess." A low hum trail from her lips in response. She’s already asleep. Again.

Her body is fatigued and she needs all the rest she can get. My hand roams on her back, hugging her tightly in the cuddle. I feel so needy.

Hazel’s hand wraps around my body, clenching softly into my skin.

I’ve never felt this needy before. My eyes start to flicker close. This is the first iota of sleep tainting my sockets since I decided to retire for the night with her.

She brings me so much peace. I tangle her leg deeper in mine. Her presence is so warm and I can’t help but be drawn to it. My hand shifts up, resting at the back of her head. I hold her neck forward, her head feels so tender in my hand and I couldn’t help but kiss her forehead again. Now, my fingers run up and down her back in gentle pats.

A silent growl escapes my lips. I wish the night doesn’t end. I just want to be in her embrace, forgetting the world exists for a long, long time.

A bite on the skin of my neck catches my attention, leaving me wide eyed briefly. "Goodnight handsome." Hazel moans and kisses the nape of my neck.

I feel embarrassed admitting this, but my cheeks reddened in response to that. Her small fingers squeeze the back of my shirt and she pats my back. I look down to face her and notice a sly, satisfied grin. Another kiss lands on my neck.

Goodnight...., my peace.
