Chapter 411: Chapter 88: Nurse
The iron cabinet finally quieted down, and the rusty smell that filled the nostrils gradually dissipated.
In the strange tale, the cabinet that made chewing noises at night eventually met its end.
As Li Changhe said, Boss Lead was good at helping spirits move on.
Compared to putting on the Mountain Pattern Armor and wielding the Mo Blade, it was more effective to let [Boss Lead] go and deal with it.
It’s rare for a Mysterious Species to have a fixed entity. Old Lead had them countered.
Li Changhe came to the fourth building to find this guy.
He opened the drawer and saw Boss Lead lying quietly at the bottom of the drawer, with more than a dozen broken scalpels next to him.
He was still as reliable as ever.
Li Changhe put [Boss Lead] back in the [Backpack] and discussed the next steps with Yun Ting.
"We don’t know if the other party will interfere with this mission, so it’s safer to complete it as soon as possible and leave the Instance."
"Hmm, according to our previous analysis, in the worst-case scenario, two people from the other side came in. Our next move is to regroup with our teammates." Li Changhe put the lead ball back in the [Backpack], seemingly lost in thought: "We need to identify them from within."
If Li Changhe’s guess was correct, among the remaining four people, the [Player]’s task target was likely to prevent the other [Player]s from completing the investigation.
Or in other words... kill their teammates!
After all, this place might be their territory. Investigating their secrets would be like lifting the lid on someone else’s business.
As long as the [Player] in the mission revealed the information or informed the authorities...
Disaster would befall them.
He had already completed his mission twice without being disturbed by the other party. Were they with his teammates?
As soon as Li Changhe left the fourth building, he saw a faint firelight in the courtyard.
Walking closer, he saw several uprooted trees and dug-up pits beneath them.
In the pits, there were bags of putrid, black wrapped packages that burned.
Li Changhe knew what was inside those bags.
After thinking for a moment, he took a gasoline container from the [Backpack] he had obtained on Mysterious Island and poured it on the flames to make them burn even brighter.
In his mind, he recalled the decisions everyone had made.
Buildings Two and Three were connected and were the biggest structures in the sanatorium. That’s where the vagrant and the masked woman chose to investigate.
Meanwhile, the cowboy decided to investigate around the courtyard. This was probably his handiwork.
Near the bonfire, Li Changhe pondered for a moment, activated his [Hawkeye Demon Eyes], and began to follow the cowboy’s footprints and traces.
However, he found that the traces led straight to Building One, where the puppet master was. That puppet master would attack anyone who approached his chosen area without warning.
"Both of these people have problems," Li Changhe thought. But since the cowboy had indeed completed a strange investigation, it was unlikely he was an enemy.
After some hesitation, Li Changhe chose to enter Buildings Two and Three.
After all, the two people in Building One were somewhat suspicious, especially the puppet master.
He was too arrogant; either he was really strong and didn’t want others to disturb or threaten him, or he had some other purpose...
If he went there, the puppet master wouldn’t even need an excuse to attack him.
As for the cowboy... his strength was unclear, but his identity probably had nothing to do with the sanatorium. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have completed an investigation on the Abnormalities.
However, he then recklessly entered the area that the puppet master had warned him not to approach.
It wasn’t clear what he was thinking, so it would be best not to approach him for now.
...
Li Changhe entered the main gate, which should have been the sanatorium’s reception hall. It was very spacious.
Since he wanted to find people, he decided to directly track their traces.
As soon as he activated his Magic Eye, he noticed that something was off.
The vagrant and the masked woman had entered the hall one after the other, and so did their traces.
The smaller set of traces belonged to the masked woman. She went straight towards the stairwell. Considering the previous appearance of the ringing, she probably rushed directly to the broadcasting room.
However, the vagrant’s traces were very messy, moving forward and retreating at some points. Looking at the footprints alone, one would think he was experiencing a dance craze and practicing street dance in the Instance.
The footprints he left were strange and would suddenly disappear.
Several rooms had his leaving footprints, but none of them had any of him entering.
What was even stranger was that Li Changhe could only see the traces of the vagrant and the masked woman. There were no signs of a third person.
So, what was he fighting, and had he won?
As Li Changhe carefully scanned his surroundings, he heard the sound of a wooden door being pushed open in a distant room.
A tall figure appeared inside the door.
You might not believe it, but it was a nurse with a nice figure.
A white, clean nurse’s uniform wrapped around her body.
The exposed skin of her legs and arms, however, showed severe burn marks.
More than 70% of her face was covered in hideous scars.
Looking only at the unburned parts, she should have been a pretty woman.
However, her eyes at the moment could give people nightmares.
Even the whites of her eyes were blood-red, appearing terrifyingly in the faint firelight.
This was the nurse who, according to rumors, would appear and patrol the halls at night after the bell rang.
She stood silently inside the door, watching Li Changhe.
Neither side moved.
"So, the vagrant was chased around by this nurse?" Li Changhe wondered.
"Brother Ting, can you communicate with her?"
"All she’s thinking about is ’turn off the lights and return to your room’," Yun Ting tried to communicate with the nurse when she appeared.
"In this sanatorium, I can’t communicate with any minds. The Mountain Climbing Ghost was like this, and so was the previous Dismemberment Platform. It’s as if they’ve all been cut off from something and can’t communicate normally."
"It’s probably those [Player]’s doing," Li Changhe replied, releasing the black hawk to approach the nurse.
The black hawk stopped about a meter in front of the nurse, who still didn’t show any signs of aggression. However, her terrifying eyes shifted downward to stare at the black hawk.
"What’s her ability? Can’t she attack directly?" Li Changhe didn’t try to attack the nurse. Instead, he retreated slowly to the stairwell.
It was too dangerous to attack recklessly without understanding her abilities first.
He planned to leave the first floor and meet up with the others upstairs.
He then noticed markings on the walls inside the stairwell, probably left by the vagrant using a glow-in-the-dark pen.
During Instance missions, it was challenging for participating [Player]s to communicate, so they usually used fluorescent pens and the like to leave hints and findings.
It was a message, likely left by the vagrant. Li Changhe saw his traces enter the stairwell.
’Be careful of any closed doors; she will jump out from the door closest to you. Keep all nearby doors open.
Same goes for fire cabinets.
Don’t think about killing her. I’ve tried. She will reappear from another door.
After she appears, don’t let her leave your line of sight.
Once you blink, she will teleport you into the room she’s in and deduct a lot of physical strength value.
But she has many limitations: she can’t leave the first floor, and she can’t throw someone who’s already in a room into another one.’
Li Changhe nodded slightly; the traces he saw now matched up.
If she disappeared from his line of sight, he would be in trouble... Small Peanut was indeed an expert.
"I can counter her!"
