Seoul Object Story -
Chapter 238: Jade Wall: Epilogue (5)
The construction site of the James Tower was located in the middle of Songpa-gu, which was in chaos due to the attack of zombies which had their brains eaten,
In his temporary office inside the tower, James was writing a report, deep in thought. His head was filled with the facts he had recently discovered while improving the mind corruption detector.
James had simply improved the mind corruption detector to make it more sensitive. However, the improved detector showed an unexpected result. It could now track and detect not only mind corruption but also almost all types of Objects.
This improvement was discovered based on the fact that electric shocks were effective against zombies that had been detected as mind corruption, however, the result just pushed James into even deeper trouble.
Does that mean most Objects are mind corrupted?
James stroked his chin, which had become prickly to his negligence in shaving it for several days, and thought so. Through the detector improvement and various experiments, he was able to divide mind corruption into two categories.
The first category was mind corruption which cause could be clearly identified. The improved detector could effectively track where the corruption originated from. This kind of corruption, which could mainly be found in humans exposed to Objects with mind altering or perception altering ability, was known in academia as ‘ordinary mind corruption.’
On the other hand, the second category was corruption detected in most Objects. It was a corruption which cause couldn’t be traced to its source even with the improved detector. It was as if the corruption was pouring down from space and had no direction.
An ordinary person would have dismissed it as a simple ‘detector error,’ but James thought that this seemingly meaningless second category of corruption contained important clues.
So, he dared to make a groundbreaking hypothesis. Most Objects are suffering from mind corruption that makes them harmful to humans. They are also being controlled by someone or something.
However, proving this hypothesis wouldn’t be as easy as making it. It was because there were no Objects that were free of mind corruption.
No… There was.
Among the Objects that were currently available for study, only one, the ‘Golden Reaper’, was free of mind corruption.
The Golden Reaper that was also free of mind corruption was friendly to humans, which could be seen as evidence to support James’ hypothesis.
However, the sample size was too small to make it convincing. Besides, why were the Golden Reapers free from mind corruption?
James sighed deeply and wrote the last sentence of the report.
Uncovering the secrets held by the Golden Reaper may be the key to solve the cause of all the Object incidents.
James put down his pen and looked out the window. The ruins of Songpa-gu were visible in the distance, and gray clouds were covering them.
James decided that he had to go to the Sehee Research Institute to study the Reapers.
Although the Object Association of the United States of America had banned its entry due to the risk of serious mind corruption, he thought that now was the proper time for him to visit them.
*********
A deep peace seemed to linger inside the cotainment room located deep inside Sehee Research Institute. Warm air lingered in the air, and a cozy blanket wrapped around Yerin’s body.
In the silence, the sound of the Mini Reapers eating soft pudding and the soft sound of the TV created a very peaceful atmosphere.
It was no different from usual.
However, Yerin felt something different was in the air.
The Gray Reaper, who loved TV so much, was not even looking at the TV today, it was staring intently at Yerin.
The thought that the Gray Reaper’s gaze was suddenly directed towards her small chest felt like she was being betrayed. Even when the Gray Reaper was looking somewhere else, its attention was still fixed on her small chest.
Even though she poked its soft cheeks to change its mind, and hugged it to caress its fluffy belly, the Gray Reaper’s attention seemed to be entirely focused on Yerin’s chest.
The evidence was none other than the antennae on the Gray Reaper’s head.
The antennae, which should have been swaying and shaking wildly, were always tilted toward Yerin, and sometimes even gave off a faint light. It was clear from that that the Gray Reaper was deeply engrossed in something related to her.
Then, a thought crossed Yerin’s mind.
Then wouldn’t this be the perfect opportunity to make Reaper wear clothes it didn’t want to wear?
But at that moment, news about Russia on the TV reached Yerin’s ears.
[ The current Object incident in Russia shows no signs of ending, thus, the blockade of Siberia continues. ]
[ The Russian government does not share with the world exactly what is happening, so not even speculation can be made. ]
Then, the TV screen before Yerin’s eyes was filled with the snowy landscape of Siberia. The endless feast of snow, the breathtaking white world, captured her attention.
However, this beautiful sight was anything but something which Yerin welcomed. It was because it was a scene that poured cold water on her plan to secretly make the Gray Reaper wear clothes.
The moment the Gray Reaper saw the snowy landscape on TV, its eyes began to sparked with curiosity. Even though it didn’t open its mouth, it seemed as if it was continuously pouring out admiration with its eyes.
It was as if it was shouting with it eyes, ‘Wow, it’s snow! That is the snowy landscape I really want to have!’
A sigh escaped her at that moment. The plan that Yerin had worked so hard to come up with was in danger of falling through.
The concentration of the Gray Reaper, who had been so focused that he couldn’t even see anything around him, melted away like snow. Even its antennae, which had been fixed like a compass pointing in one direction, began to dance.
From its appearance, It was obvious that the Gray Reaper would hate it if she tried to change its clothes now.
Ah… If I try to change its clothes at this time, I’ll definitely get caught.
Yerin’s head filled with regret.
She was upset at herself for missing such a golden opportunity.
*********
I was lying on a large chunk of marshmallow, quietly preparing for a prank.
Before leaving for Siberia to get a nice shaved ice field, I wanted to complete the prank I had in mind.
I had no choice but to give up on ‘Finding halo inside Yerin’s body’ that I had been trying for so long.
No matter how much I looked inside Yerin’s body, I couldn’t see it at all. I guess I lacked the ability to find that halo.
Considering that it took me quite a while to find the halo inside my body, it seemed that I was still lacking in finding the halo inside Yerin’s body. However, even though I couldn’t find it, I was certain that Yerin had something special. After all, there’s no way that an ordinary human with nothing special could have that much firepower.
After thinking sp. I looked around and climbed up the marshmallow hill. In order not to be caught preparing the prank, I checked to see if there were any Mini Reapers around. After confirming that no one was there, I put the Labyrinth Halo over my head and made two of the most delicious candies in the world.
The candies were filled with firewood, so they would feel like the most delicious candies in the world to the mini reaper.
Hihihi.
I smiled, anticipating the prank.
*****
The Golden Reaper stood on my palm and looked at the candy I handed it with suspicious eyes.
No matter how much I emphasized that the candy was incredibly delicious, the Golden Reaper’s expression seemed to ask, ‘What kind of trap is this?’
Even though I’d played a lot of pranks in the past, I didn’t expect that their belief in me would be this bad.
I wish they would trust me a little more.
These are incredibly delicious candies in the world. There are only two of them in the entire world.
I emphasized once again.
If the Golden Reaper had a precious human, it would have shared the delicious candy with the human, but this Golden Reaper, the target of my prank, didn’t have any precious human.
The Golden Reaper, who had been looking suspicious, closed its eyes tightly and put the candy in its mouth. It looked as if he had no choice but to swallow poison because its mother had forced it to.
However, a few seconds later, the Golden Reaper’s eyes widened and its antennae perked up.
It’s delicious!
The Golden Reaper’s had an extremely surprised expression and that will flow out. Then, that surprised expression melted away in an instant and turned into a happy smile.
The Golden Reaper carefully rubbed its cheeks that had become bulgy from the candy and savored the candy.
After eating all the candy, the Golden Reaper clung to me with a happy face and acted cute.
Thank you, Mom!
I held out the remaining candy to the Golden Reaper.
The Golden Reaper then asked, bending its antennae into a question mark.
But, that’s yours, right?
Mom doesn’t really like it. So, it’s okay if I don’t eat it.
The Golden Reaper, who was very worried, ate the candy I gave it only after I repeatedly told it that I didn’t like it.
The Golden Reaper’s face was filled with happiness as he ate the second candy.
After confirming that the Golden Reaper had finished eating the candy, I suddenly made a sad expression and conveyed my will.
The candy was delicious, right?
My will was filled with deep regret and sadness.
Then the Golden Reaper looked at me as if he was shocked.
But you say you don’t like it mom…
How could that be?
The Golden Reaper seemed confused and let out a stuttering will, but eventually, it cried and clung to me.
I’m sorry, Mom!
The Golden Reaper kept apologizing for not noticing that its mom liked it and eat it.
I looked down at the Golden Reaper and smiled mischievously.
Hihihi.
*********
In the Siberian Plains which was currently off-limits because it was occupied by an unidentified entity, numerous drones and humans which were dispatched to investigate the place disappeared without a trace the moment they set foot in the area.
Investigation seemed impossible.
There were no humans, vehicles, or landmarks there.
There was only an endless snowfield.
The snowfield, where no path or ground was visible, was smooth and flawless like polished metal.
In the middle of that snowfield, which could never be observed with modern technology, two beings were walking, leaving a trail of footprints behind.
A blue-haired girl wearing a thick, warm-looking cloak and a White Hungry Ghost following slowly behind her.
The two beings continued to walk, leaving footprints on the snowfield that seemed like a vast ocean.
