Chapter 87: Jewel Crafting
Chapter 87: Jewel Crafting
After lunch with Christian, I set off to meet with Yulia. There was an entire floor dedicated to Sophia inside the office building, and there, she had her own space where she could work.
As I walked into her ’office’, I noticed the many workshop tools and drawing tables. There were spaces for others, but she was the only one inside.
"Hey, Yulia. How’s it going?" I asked, walking over to her workbench with the metal briefcase.
"Oh hey! Welcome back! How was your trip?" she asked with a big smile. In her hands was a pencil, and she was sitting in front of a large desk with paper on it.
I walked over and placed the briefcase on the edge of her desk. "The trip was great, it was a very cool place. I’ve come bearing gifts!"
She looked at me with excitement, "Gifts?!"
I unlocked the case with the code I had memorized earlier and revealed a black velvet interior with multiple labeled small plastic bags that each contained a gemstone.
"WOW!" she exclaimed, looking at the contents inside. "There’s so much!"
She reached in and carefully picked up a bag with a diamond and looked at the stone closely.
"Such a good quality, too! I’ve never had the honor of working with top-tier gems like these before!" Her eyes sparked as she looked through the briefcase thoroughly.
"I sent you a photo earlier," I giggled. Her reaction was so pure and full of honest excitement that it put me in an exceptionally good mood.
"Photos don’t do it justice. For instance, a photo wouldn’t be able to capture the clarity and reflectiveness of this diamond." She lifted one of the larger diamonds for me to see up close.
"So I did a good job picking them out?" I asked with a grin.
"You picked them out?! I thought you said that you had little experience with gemstones earlier." She looked at me with an eyebrow raised, not believing that I lacked experience.
I broke out into a laugh, "Haha, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I simply bought the most expensive ones!"
Yulia looked at me with a dumbfounded expression. A moment later, she shook her head and laughed. "I guess that works too!"
After our laugh, Yulia took the time to inspect each gem closely. It was good to know from an expert that all of the gems purchased were high quality.
"Okay, so seeing the actual gems, I have a solid idea of what should go where. I can make my final design edits and begin cutting and polishing the gemstones!" she said with a nod.
I watched her from the side, marveling at how quickly she worked. All of her pencil movements were precise and detailed.
The sketches quickly came to life, displaying their brilliance even on paper.
"Wow, this is...amazing!" I could hardly believe my eyes. I couldn’t believe that something so beautiful actually originated from one of my silly doodles.
Yulia is incredibly creative and talented.
After she finished the drawing, she looked over and nodded, "Perfect. I think this will be the most beautiful necklace to have ever existed!"
She then turned to look at me, "Want to see how a gem is cut?"
"Yes!" I nodded my head. It was something I’ve seen briefly online and wanted to learn more about the process. I followed her over to the other side of the room where the power tools were.
"Put these on," she said, and handed me a pair of safety goggles.
In front of her was a large circular wheel that spun very quickly. She placed the sapphire on top of what looked like a small stick.
"Basically, I will hold the gem upside down and file different sides. This will create the familiar shapes that you typically see in stores.
I nodded and watched the process in awe. It looked like it took a lot of concentration and skill. The gem she was filing was small, and any wrong move could possibly ruin the stone.
Yulia skillfully pressed the face of the sapphire to the file. Her expertise was shown with her calm and unhurried movements.
After a few moves, she lifted the sapphire for me to see. "See? You can already see the cuts."
Half of the stone had perfectly calculated edges on it. "Oh! Is this going to be an emerald cut?" I asked with excitement.
"Oh, nice! You know your different cuts! Yes, this sapphire will have the emerald cut shape," she nodded.
After showing me, she went back to work, filing down the rest of the edges.

I spent the entire rest of the day in Yulia’s workroom, watching her cut and polish the gemstones. Towards the end of the day, I even got to see how she attached the gems into a pair of earrings she had made earlier.
Seeing the jewelry come to life lit a fire of anticipation inside of me. I couldn’t wait for the world to see these beautiful pieces!
I was so absorbed in the jewelry-making process that I was startled when my phone vibrated inside my pocket.
"Oh, wow. It’s this late already?" I mumbled, seeing the message from my driver. "Yulia, I need to get going. Today was great, I look forward to seeing more pieces come to life!"
"Come on down anytime!" she smiled.
I quickly made my way back upstairs to my office to grab my things.
I wonder if Christian is here. I’d like to say goodbye.
After grabbing my purse, I peeked into Christian’s office to look for him, but he was nowhere to be found.
It was only after I returned to my office that I noticed a small note on my desk.
[Leslie, I had to step out for some business and wasn’t sure if I would be back before you were picked up. I’ll be visiting your place tonight.
Miss you,
Christian ]
My lips curved into a smile. His simple note made my heart flutter.
Feeling reluctant to throw the note away, I folded it neatly and placed it into one of the drawers of my desk.
It’ll be a little good luck charm.
Looking at the time, I realized that I had kept the driver waiting a bit longer than I should have. With quick steps, I ran to the elevator, making my way over to the car that was waiting for me outside.
