Secretly Mine
Chapter 56: Discovery?!

Chapter 56: Discovery?!

His eyes darkened at my words, "Careful, kitten. Words like that will really make me lose the little self-control I have left. And I might not let you leave this room until morning."

Yes. Yes. Yes!

His words were exactly what I wanted. I was ready to throw everything away so we could continue entangling our bodies together.

The last shred of rationality pulled me back, keeping me from making a huge mistake.

I lifted myself on my tippy toes once more and placed a sensual kiss on his lips.

"Then on this ’business trip’ I want you to lose all of your self-control," I said before walking over to where my clothes were sitting.

Christian stood frozen in place. He watched me move around the room like a hawk. I could feel how he was doing his best to keep himself from pouncing on me.

This feeling of being so desired that he had to fight himself for control over his body was addictive. It was something I never once felt in my life before; hell, I never felt like I was welcome in my own family.

After a few long moments, he finally resumed putting on his clothes. Once his shirt was fully buttoned, he came over and wrapped his arms around me.

"I’ll try my best to see you this weekend, but I have a few things I need to take care of first," he said, placing a kiss on my shoulder. "I’ll miss you, Leslie."

A warmth spread through my chest, warming me from within.

I placed my hands on his arms that were wrapped around my chest and smiled, "I’ll miss you too."

This would be the first time since the engagement party that we wouldn’t get to see each other, and although it would only be two days, I couldn’t help but feel like that was too long.

After one final squeeze, Christian finally let go and walked out of the dressing room, leaving me alone once more.

I didn’t waste any time and quickly found my dress and put it on. As I looked into the mirror to check my appearance, my mind pictured a few other scenes that I saw through its reflection, not long ago.

Maybe I’ll see if I can get a mirror like this installed in my room or office.

I fixed a few loose strands of hair before walking out of the dressing room.

-

As I walked back into the hall, I was greeted with the sight of professional dancers and glimmering lights.

The music was loud but not painful, and perfectly fit with the dancers’ choreography. The hall was still dimly lit, and groups of people were chatting while watching the show.

I did a slow walk around the hall, stopping by the refreshments table to get a glass of water. My earlier ’activities’ left me feeling very parched.

"Hey. You’re the model from earlier, right? The one wearing the black dress? You were absolutely stunning."

I turned around to find a very handsome man with blonde hair smiling at me.

"Oh. Yes, thank you," I smiled.

"I’m Lucas. Lucas Christaphori. May I have the honor of knowing your name?" he asked with a bright smile.

I looked at him, feeling slightly flustered. Usually, people only introduced themselves to me in formal settings when meeting my father. This was the first time someone came up to me from the crowd.

"Ah. I’m Leslie," I stretched my hand out to shake his, "Leslie Moresi."

"Oh! A Moresi! My uncle has mentioned your family to me on a number of occasions," he said. Instead of shaking my hand, he pulled it up to his mouth and placed a small kiss on top.

While this was a perfectly normal greeting in the upper society, something about it felt strange to me.

"May I offer you a drink?" he asked with sparkling eyes.

I slightly lifted my glass of water, "Thank you for the kind offer."

"Oh, forgive me. I didn’t notice. Your beauty was just so captivating," he blushed, looking away for a moment.

The tips of his ears were bright red, making him look really cute. He had a very innocent charm, making him easy to talk to.

"I just recently moved here, so I don’t know many people. Perhaps we can grab a coffee or something?"

I froze.

Is he hitting on me?

Never having been in this situation before, I didn’t know how to respond. I wanted to be friendly, but I obviously had feelings for Christian.

I opened and closed my mouth a few times. He was waiting for my answer with anticipation, looking directly into my eyes with excitement.

"Leslie? Where did you run off to?"

Oh, thank god.

For the first time, Morgan’s voice wasn’t ear-grating.

"Sorry, my sister is calling for me. I need to go," I said quickly before scurrying off to find Morgan.

I could feel his gaze on me up until I reached Morgan’s side.

Hopefully, that didn’t come off too rude. He seemed like a nice person.

"There you are. What took you so long?" asked Morgan with annoyance.

I lowered my head to hide the small smile on my face, "Sorry, I had trouble with the zipper. I couldn’t reach it."

She rolled her eyes, "Of course. Why am I not the least bit surprised?"

The entire time she was talking to me, her eyes were scanning the surroundings with concern.

"Did you see Christian by chance? I’ve been looking for him for a while now, but I can’t find him anywhere."

Yes. Actually, I saw him very recently.

I looked around and immediately caught his figure in the corner. He was chatting with another man whom I assumed to be his friend.

"Is that him over there?" I asked, motioning to the corner.

Morgan turned to look, "Oh! That’s where he’s been hiding. I must have just missed him."

She nearly sprinted over to his side, leaving me to trail behind her.

-

"Christian! Did you see me? What did you think of my catwalk?" she asked, cutting off his conversation.

I wanted to roll my eyes. All of the years of training our mother put into teaching her etiquette flew out the window.

He turned around to face us, giving Morgan a complicated look, but both of his friends were looking at me.

Do they know?

I peeked over at Christian to see if he would give me a secret nod, but he was too busy dealing with Morgan.

"Yes, I saw you. All of you did wonderful," he said respectfully.

One of the men beside Christian elbowed him and smiled, "Care to introduce us, Christian?" The whole time, his eyes never left me, making me feel slightly awkward.

Christian noticed his gaze and playfully covered his eyes.

"Miss Moresi, Second Miss Moresi, these two are my good friends Zachary and Liam," said Christian, introducing us.

I smiled and bowed my head while Morgan looked them over with a critical eye.

"Nice to meet you both. I wonder how many things Christian has already told you about me," she laughed.

Zachary looked up at Christian and smiled, "Yes, he talked about you often."

For some reason, I felt like there was a hidden meaning behind his words, but I couldn’t figure out what it could be.

Liam took a step forward, "It’s so nice to finally meet you. We were both very surprised when Christian told us he was engaged."

Morgan blushed and smiled at Christian, "What can you do? It was love at first sight."

She was so into her own delusions that she didn’t notice how everyone was fighting to hold back their laughter, including me.

They must know it was a contract marriage, though I’m unsure of what benefit Christian is getting from it.

Liam looked at me and smiled before peeking over at Christian. He seemed to be the quiet one of the group, while Zachary was chatting up a storm.

As Morgan twirled and wrapped herself around Christian’s arm, I realized that many eyes were on us.

Liam walked over to my side and smiled, "They’re all looking at you."

He kept his voice low so that only I could hear him, but his words shocked me.

"Me?" I asked.

Why would they be looking at me? Is there something wrong with my dress?

I glanced down to look myself over and heard Liam chuckle.

"No, you misunderstood. They’re looking at you because you stole the show tonight. I must say that even I was surprised that the Second Miss Moresi could have such a strong presence," he explained.

His words shocked me even more. I looked around more carefully and noticed that it was true, most of the people looking this way were looking at me.

"I stole the show? But I only made a single appearance. Morgan and Eve must have walked down the runway at least a dozen times each," I replied, feeling truly bewildered.

Liam glanced over at Christian, who was still chatting with Morgan and Zachary, and leaned in closer, "Christian even won a few bets because of you. It’s like he knew that you would take the limelight."

My eyes widened at this information.

Bets? What kind of bets? Christian knew I would win?

I felt my heart pound as I quietly glanced over at Christian, my ears heating up.

What I didn’t realize was that my small actions would give me away.

"There’s something going on between you two, isn’t there?" he asked quietly, with a knowing smile.
