Chapter 143: Charity Gala (1)

A few days later...

"Leslie! Are you ready yet? We’re all waiting on you!" Morgan yelled from the other side of my bedroom door.

I looked at myself in the mirror, feeling like a queen. When I first laid eyes on my dress, I was completely shocked. It was even more beautiful than the design in the catalog that my mother showed me.

It fit my body like a glove, highlighting all of the beautiful curves of my body. I was a little surprised that the deep neckline passed my mother’s inspection, but ever since my engagement to Karl, she seemed to have relaxed her clothing restrictions for me.

"Leslie!!" Morgan called out again.

"I’m coming!" I yelled back, slightly annoyed. We technically didn’t have to arrive for another hour, but Morgan couldn’t sit still.

I walked over to my jewelry box and picked up my most precious possession, Christian’s gold chain, and placed it inside of my small clutch purse.

My little lucky token.

After his gold chain was securely in my purse, I finally walked out of my room. Morgan scoffed as soon as she saw me, "I swear, Leslie. You can’t be taking so much time to get ready! We’re going to be late because of you, and do you know how badly that could reflect on Christian?!"

"Is he here already?" I asked, a little surprised. I knew that he would be picking us up today, but I didn’t think he would arrive so early.

Morgan hesitated slightly before glancing away, "He’ll be here any minute!"

Thought so.

We walked down the hall to the foyer, where we waited until Christian arrived. Morgan must have checked her appearance in the mirror at least a dozen times in the span of five minutes.

"Oh! He’s here! Move!" she barked, pushing past me to run outside and greet him.

I followed behind her, immediately noticing the dashingly handsome Christian stepping out of the limousine. He wore an all black suit with gold cufflinks that happened to match my gold dress.

Morgan didn’t notice this small detail and ran over to his side, showing off her dress to him.

"Look, don’t these earrings look with my dress?! I made sure to pick something that matched just so that I could wear them today!" she explained.

"You look lovely," said Christian softly. His eye subtly brushed past Morgan and locked on to me. The moment our eyes met, it felt like time stopped. I could tell that he liked the way I looked without having to hear him say it. The sexual tension between us quickly ignited, causing my body to warm up.

My lips curved up into a smile. He looked exceptionally handsome this evening, reminding me of the night of his engagement party.

"Let’s be on our way!" said Morgan, interrupting our passionate moment of silence.

As soon as we entered the limousine, the driver closed the door behind us and drove off to the venue. The Lombardi family was hosting this charity gala, so the venue was once again the Sinclair, one of the top hotels in the entire country.

-

When we arrived, there was a small line of other cars also headed for the charity gala. I looked out the window and saw all of the beautiful outdoor decorations at the entrance of the hotel. The Lombardis always went all out when it came to even planning, and it showed. People were still talking about their previous event here during the fashion show.

It was finally our turn, and the driver pulled up so that our door was directly in front of the black carpet in front of the hotel’s entrance.

Christian was the first one to step out. He stood by the door, holding his hand to help Morgan out of the car. I heard the clicking of the hundreds of cameras surrounding the limousine.

Seems like all of the paparazzi are here today.

Once Morgan was full out of the car, I got ready to get out on my own, but when I looked through the doorway, Christian was calmly holding his hand out for me. The kind gesture made me smile. As much as I wanted to be in Morgan’s shoes, this small gesture was good enough for now.

The moment I stepped out, hundreds of expensive cameras surrounded me, nearly blinding me with all of their flashing lights.

"It’s the second Miss of the Moresi family!" one of the cameramen called out, initiating another round of flashes.

They recognize me? I’ve been to countless events where no one even knew my name.

I thought back to the last event I attended, the one where Morgan and I were pulled up to fill in for a few missing models.

Surely that event wasn’t big enough for people to recognize me?

"Second Miss, could you turn around for us? We’d like to get a few shots of your dress!" another paparazzi shouted.

A slight blush crept up on my face, but I did as I was asked and turned around and posed.

I could feel Morgan’s intense glare behind me. I didn’t even want to begin to see just how angry she was that I was receiving more attention than she was.

"You’re absolutely stunning, Second Miss! Thank you for posing!"

I smiled and walked over to Christian’s side.

"CEO Vittoria! Is Second Miss Moresi your date for tonight’s event?" one of the reporters asked, shouting through the crowd. The rest of the reporters quickly turned to face him, eager to hear his reply.

Morgan was fuming. She took a step forward, "Actually! I am--"

"I am lucky enough to bring both of the lovely Moresi ladies out tonight." Christian cut Morgan’s words short and answered the reporters before pulling both of us inside.

Morgan was pouting, clearly unhappy that she wasn’t put up on a high pedestal, but she didn’t say anything.

Christian led us through the lobby and into the main event space hall. The moment we entered, it was as if we walked into another world.

The theme for today’s event seemed to be some sort of whimsical garden party theme. The floors were decorated with fake grass, while thousands of beautiful flower arrangements hung from the ceiling.

"Wow, the Lombadis certainly know how to decorate," said Christian as soon as we walked in.

Morgan scoffed, "Psh, they probably just found a talented event space designer. If we hosted, it would’ve been even more magical."

Her harsh criticisms didn’t seem to match the awe displayed in her eyes. She continued to look around with excitement, unwilling to miss a single thing.

As we walked by the refreshment table, I noticed miniature fairy sculptures placed around the table. They reminded me of the ones I found with Lucas when we walked around the park he took me too.
