Chapter 100: Death Sentance [Christian POV]
*Bzzz Bzzz*
"What time is it?"
I let out a deep yawn as I rolled over in my bed to look at my phone.
"Why is Blake messaging me at four in the morning?"
I tried my best to hold back my frustration, even though I had only fallen asleep an hour ago. Anytime I slept without Leslie, I had the worst nightmares.
Maybe it’s something very important.
I told myself not to get angry as I opened the message.
[Boss, I received a notification that the alarm at the company has been deactivated. Should I call the police?]
"What? Who would deactivate the alarm so early in the morning? The earliest shift isn’t until six..." I mumbled.
Suddenly, I thought of her.
[No, don’t call. Everything is fine, I know who it is. Get some sleep.]
I replied to Blake and hopped out of bed. The only person outside of me, Blake, and the security team who knew the alarm code was Leslie.
Why would Leslie be at the office this early in the morning? Something must have happened.
I got out of bed and made my way to take a shower. The entire time, I thought of reasons why Leslie would arrive so early, but I couldn’t think of anything that felt correct.
Doing my best to get dressed in a hurry, I ran out to my car and sped off to the office. The closer I got, the more nervous I became.
A sinking feeling in my gut told me that there was something bad, and no matter how hard I tried to shake the feeling, it wouldn’t go away.
-
By the time I made it to the office, my hands were shaky. I sprinted to the elevator as fast as I could.
It felt like an eternity for the elevator to finally come down. It was so slow that I felt like punching the wall. I even considered taking the stairs, but after considering how many floors there were in this building, it would take me much longer.
When the elevator finally arrived, I got inside and pressed the button to my floor at least a dozen times.
"Hurry up!" I hissed in a low voice.
Once the elevator finally arrived at the top floor, I ran down the hall, skipping my office and heading straight for Leslie’s.
As soon as I burst through the doors, I met her startled eyes.
Leslie, is everything okay? Blake messaged me earlier, saying someone had disabled the security alarm. Why are you here so early?" I asked, all in one breath.
I walked over to stand in front of her, my eyes never leaving her face. I could see that her lips began to quiver, and my heart sank.
"Christian..."
Her voice whimpered as she said my name. The next moment, a flood of tears came running down her face.
"Leslie, tell me. What happened? What’s wrong?" I asked, running over to her side. Seeing her in this state maddened me. I was ready to kill whoever was responsible for making her cry like this.
I pulled her into my embrace, wrapping my arms around her. Her body shook as she continued to cry, burying her face into my chest.
Every tear she shed felt like a knife stabbing into my chest. She looked so fragile, so pitiful, it made me want to seek justice for the crime of making her cry like this.
I rocked her side to side, patting her back to help her calm down. I didn’t know what else I could do to help her feel better, so I simply let her cry her heart out on my chest.
"I’m here. Everything is okay. I won’t let anyone hurt you", I whispered, placing a kiss on the top of her head.
We stood like this for a while until she calmed down enough to look me in the eyes. Her gaze held nothing but despair. She looked at me with pleading and hope, as if I were the only one she could rely on.
It was a look that shattered me. She didn’t deserve to feel like this. She deserved to be loved by everyone around her.
Tears were still sliding down her cheeks as she opened her mouth.
"Christian...they made me...they made me get engaged...to him."
...
Her words echoed in my head a thousand times. For a moment, I wasn’t sure if I heard her correctly, but from the way she cried, I knew I wasn’t hallucinating.
My body went cold. The last thing I expected to hear was that she was engaged. And the thought of some fucker taking her from me made me go mad.
"What? Who?" I asked. I had a hard time hiding the fear in my voice, but I did my best to remain calm for her.
I was screaming internally, waiting to hear the name of the bastard who was tempting fate.
She gazed at me with her watery eyes as she let out another sob.
Who?! Who dares?!
After a few long moments, she pulled away from my chest.
"Karl"
Everything around me stopped. It took every ounce of restraint to keep myself from finding that dirty pig and ending him.
The only thing that really kept me from going all out was the fact that Leslie needed me right now. I took a deep breath and looked her in the eyes while tightening my embrace.
"It’s going to be okay. I won’t let anyone do anything to you that you don’t want. Just give me some time."
I’ve solved many problems before, and I will solve this one too. It was only a matter of time.
Leslie finally relaxed, hearing my words, but remained buried in my chest. I lifted her into my arms and carried her around the room while I pictured a hundred different ways of getting rid of that pig.
"Leslie?"
I noticed that she stopped crying, but she didn’t move.
"Leslie, say something."
She remained motionless, curled up in my arms.
A new kind of panic set in. I ran her over to my bed while fumbling to pull out my phone from my pocket. As soon as I laid her down, I called Liam.
"Liam, I need you to come to my office right now!" I said nervously.
"Christian? What’s wrong? I’m still on the clock in the hospital. Is it an emergency?" he replied over the phone.
"Leslie passed out. I don’t know if she’s okay. Please hurry!" I said with urgency.
After a momentary pause, he finally responded, "Okay, I’m on my way."
