Chapter 661: Chapter 661 Making Use of Her
Jenny said coldly, "You cannot afford to offend these three people. Endure or hide them if you can. Otherwise, if something happens, I won’t solve it for you!"
Ellen wasn’t stupid. She could tell that Jenny was doing this out of kindness. If she ran into these people again, she might as well pretend to be sick and ask for leave.
In this kind of place where people of the same gender were scheming against each other, she could feel their kindness, which made her feel very touched.
She smiled at Jenny and said, "I see. Jenny, I won’t cause you any trouble."
Seeing her smile, Jenny was stunned for a moment and felt a little unnatural.
Then she stopped smoking, turned her head, and said before leaving, "You’re crazy. I’m not helping you."
Ellen still had a faint smile on her face when Jenny left.
She was now sure that Jenny was a good person. She didn’t know why Jenny helped her, but she could still distinguish between sincerity and hypocrisy.
After washing herself, Ellen was still thinking about Kenyon on the way out.
She wanted Kenyon to live a happy life, but now she didn’t know whether losing memory was good for him or not.
If he hadn’t lost his memory, she believed that Kenyon would fight against it to the end. He would never give in to this marriage easily, nor would he give in to the Corben family.
She walked back in the dark. As soon as she reached the back door, she heard two people chatting by the window on the second floor, vaguely mentioning the Corben family.
Ellen was smart enough to find a place where she could hear clearly. She stopped and overheard what the people upstairs were saying.
"It seems that the Corben family values that illegitimate child very much now."
"Illegitimate child? The bastard of the Corben family is even lower and worse than an illegitimate child."
"Hey, don’t say that. Preston values him. If you say that, the Corben family will make trouble for you."
"Humph, it’s impossible because of Mr. Corben."
"How is this possible?"
"Let me tell you a secret. Preston hates Kenyon’s mother the most. But for her, his fame would not have been ruined. So, he pretends to love Kenyon who is a scapegoat. The Corben family has something to do with the illegal business earlier. Now, the legal person has been changed, so Kenyon will be arrested if the illegal business is exposed. It’s said that Kenyon is responsible for the business which is profitable. But it’s possible to be investigated, so he will be punished more."
"Really? He is the last descendant of the Corben family. If they don’t protect him, does it mean that they don’t have a successor?"
The other one was obviously drunk. He couldn’t speak clearly, but he spat out everything he knew.
"You don’t understand. Preston is such a smart person. How could he let the Corben family have no successor? Let me tell you, before his first son had an accident, he had frozen his sperm, and then his wife was pregnant. She gave birth to twins who were carefully raised abroad. They were the successors of the Corben family. Preston founded an international trade company named by his first son. Its business was legal. He even sent his great assistants to do the business and cultivate the successors of the Corben family."
The others were stunned. "To my surprise, the Corben family has such a big secret. Preston is too shrewd. I thought he would bring back an heir, but I didn’t expect him to be just a scapegoat!"
"I heard that from my dad. He has some dealings with the Corben family in his business abroad. He happened to see a member of the Corben family. Don’t tell others. I don’t want to offend Preston, a malicious man."
"I got it. Don’t worry, I won’t tell others what I have heard today."
Ellen never expected the Corben family to have such a secret.
Sure enough, her intuition was right. Preston did not love Kenyon, so he didn’t care about him.
The last time when he asked someone to cripple Kenyon, it could be seen that he did not care about Kenyon, even if he was the grandson of the Corben family.
If what the person upstairs said was true, then what Preston had done would make sense.
But in this case, as a scapegoat, Kenyon would be in great danger.
Ellen rubbed her forehead. She didn’t have dinner, so she suddenly felt dizzy and fell to the ground.
She hurried to hold the wall, but she still couldn’t help making a noise.
When the people upstairs heard this, they immediately became alert and asked, "Who’s downstairs?"
Ellen was so nervous that she didn’t dare to move. She knew that they would see her if she took a step forward.
Another person poked his head out and looked down. "I’ll stay here and watch. Go down and take a look."
Ellen felt very nervous.
She heard the people upstairs coming down. She felt that she could not escape. Even if she did so, they could check the surveillance camera in the corridor. It was she who was there.
Right at this moment.
"Meow."
A faint meow sounded.
A snow-white pet cat walked out of the darkness and walked forward gracefully.
From time to time, it meowed twice, "Meow. Meow."
The person upstairs saw a white cat and stopped it. "Forget it, it’s a cat."
The other person who came down stopped and also walked back, saying, "I told you that no one would leave here at this time."
"Well, let’s go back to the private room. It’s so cold."
As they spoke, their voices faded away.
Only then did Ellen let out a long sigh.
At this time, the cat came back and rubbed against Ellen.
This was a docile cat raised by Jenny. Ellen usually fed it.
She reached out to touch the cat and took out the cat food to feed it. Then she whispered, "Thank you, Alice."
The cat was enjoying its meal. Ellen watched it eat before getting up from the ground and leaving.
After a while, Jenny came out of the darkness.
She bent down to pick up Alice, who was licking her lips after eating, and praised, "Well done."
It was Jenny who saw that Ellen was in danger and let the cat out to confuse others.
She rubbed the cat’s head and said, "But you are too intimate with others. I’m going to be jealous. Do you not like me but like Ellen?"
The cat meowed coquettishly twice.
Jenny smiled again and walked back with the cat in her arms.
Ellen returned to her residence. The more she thought about it, the more worried she became. She took out her phone and dialed a number.
Then, she asked in fluent English, "Joy, can you help me investigate something?"
