Secretary's Secret Lover -
Chapter 445 Is It Because of You?
Chapter 445: Chapter 445 Is It Because of You?
Ellen slept until almost nine o’clock.
She was so tired that she needed sufficient sleep.
When she realized that she was late, Ellen quickly washed up and went to open the door.
The chair she pressed against the door yesterday was still intact.
She opened the door and thought about how she could go out if Jamie didn’t let her go. After all, things turned out nasty yesterday.
But the corridor outside was quiet.
Ellen thought it was strange. Usually, the villa would start to get busy at nine o’clock.
The medicine that the doctor prescribed for Jamie needed to be taken four times a day. Every day at this time, he would take his medicine.
The servants would run up and down and get busy.
But today, it was so quiet, as if no one lived there.
Even Jack was not there.
Just as Ellen was about to go downstairs, she heard the two maids downstairs talking.
"What’s wrong with Mr. McBride? I heard some noise outside at night. It seems that he was sent to the hospital in a hurry?"
"I saw it at that time. He was drowning in the bathtub and was found by Mr. Mitchell. You don’t know how scary it was. When he was saved, his face was completely pale, as if he was out of breath.
"Mr. Mitchell gave Mr. McBride CPR for half an hour until Mr. McBride gained some consciousness. Afraid that the lack of oxygen would hurt Mr. McBride’s brain, Mr. Mitchell sent him to the hospital."
When Ellen heard this, she was shocked.
Jamie actually failed to climb out of the bathtub last night.
No wonder there was no sound behind when she left.
Now that Ellen thought about it, Jamie should have fainted when she fought back.
At this time, the maids downstairs said something again.
"In my opinion, Ms. Robbins is really Mr. McBride’s jinx. Ever since Mr. McBride brought her back, his injuries have become more and more serious. No treatment seems to work. Now, he was drowning. It’s really strange."
"Yes. If not for Mr. Mitchell, Mr. McBride would probably have died just like that."
"Alas, they shouldn’t be together..."
As the maids spoke, they gradually walked away.
Ellen was still rooted to the ground, slightly stunned.
Did Jamie almost die yesterday?
This was supposed to be something happy for her, but she couldn’t be happy about it.
When she heard that Jamie almost drowned to death, she even shivered.
It was not like this.
Ellen told herself that she wanted Jamie to die more than anyone else.
However, such an unexpected death didn’t meet her expectations.
A man like him was not afraid of death.
Ellen wanted him to know his mistakes and repent in prison forever.
For a conceited person like him, that kind of life was truly worse than death.
In her muddled state, Ellen found that she had walked to Jamie’s room, and there was no sound inside.
Jamie had many enemies, so most of the bodyguards must have followed him to the hospital.
She reached out to push the door. It was not locked.
Apart from the time she took care of him, Ellen was not allowed to enter Jamie’s room.
After staying here for many days, Ellen finally understood what was going on.
This was Jamie’s secret residence, the one he stayed in the most often.
Since the security measures here were very good, it was difficult for outsiders to enter.
Since it was a secret residence, there must be some important confidential documents here.
Ellen remembered that there seemed to be something different about the head of Jamie’s bed. She thought there was a secret door.
She walked in and gently closed the door. She groped around the head of the bed with her pieces of memory.
Finally, she touched a dark button that looked like a switch.
She pressed it down, and the entire bed started to move to the side. Behind it was a large dark room.
Ellen immediately saw a golden cabinet. She got quite delighted.
As she walked closer, she discovered that the cabinet had been locked.
Moreover, it required the paired pupils to unlock it.
In other words, other than Jamie himself, no one else could open it.
She immediately felt a burst of disappointment.
When Ellen turned around and was about to leave, a glass cabinet caught her attention.
The three layers inside were filled with items closely related to her.
There were her graduation projects and photos, the scarf that she knitted for Jamie, and the lunch box she used to send deliveries for him.
There were so many things that even she had to think for a while before making sure it was something she had given Jamie.
All of the items were carefully preserved in the glass cabinet.
Moreover, the glass cabinet was clean, and it looked like someone had been carefully wiping it.
No one would come into this kind of secret space. It meant that Jamie was doing all this by himself.
In an instant, her heart felt like it was being pulled tight by something.
Ellen recalled that they had once had a happy time.
Jamie had been ... good to her.
They kissed each other under the sunlight, held hands when the autumn leaves fell, and embraced together in the winter snow to get warm.
But one day, everything suddenly changed.
Life forced Jamie into a monster. He clearly knew what Ellen liked and disliked. Jamie accurately used the things she hated to deal with her.
And now Ellen was just like the previous Jamie, her mind occupied and eroded by hatred.
Finally, Jamie got what he wanted. He had turned Ellen into a monster.
Now they were the same kind.
She could no longer live a normal life.
She could no longer live the ordinary life that she had yearned for.
Ellen was immersed in her thoughts, and tears streamed down her face.
Suddenly, footsteps sounded from outside the door.
A maid said, "Mr. Mitchell, you are back."
"Yes."
Jack’s steady voice rang out.
Ellen panicked and rushed out of the secret room and closed the door.
The next second, the door was pushed open.
When Jack saw Ellen in the room, his expression changed instantly. He scolded harshly, "Who allowed you to come in?"
Ellen tilted her head and said calmly, "Who do you think? Hasn’t Jamie ordered me to feed him the medicine at this time?"
Jack kept silent, his eyes sharp like those of a hawk as he examined Ellen.
Ellen was not flustered at all. She looked straight at him and asked calmly, "Where is Jamie?"
Jack said coldly, "Ms. Robbins, don’t you know?"
"What? Where did he go?"
Ellen made up her mind to pretend that she didn’t know. If she had not eavesdropped on the servants’ conversation, she really wouldn’t have known.
To avoid trouble, she would definitely not admit it.
Moreover, she guessed that Jack did not know that Jamie drowned last night because of her.
Otherwise, judging from Jack’s loyalty, he would have locked her long ago.
Jack was expressionless. "What? Ms. Robbins starts to care about my boss?"
When Ellen heard his mocking tone, she immediately turned around and said, "Whatever."
This kind of indifference was normal for Ellen, and Jack would not doubt it.
Seeing her about to go out, Jack called out, "Mr. McBride fainted in the bathtub last night. Is it because of you?"
Ellen sneered, "All of you know nothing about the law, but I am not like you. I am not that stupid as to sacrifice the rest of my life to kill him."
She really didn’t do it on purpose.
Jamie gripped her throat first, and she was only fighting back.
How could she have thought that Jamie was so weak that he fainted in the bathtub and almost died?
Jack came back to get the medicine. He didn’t want to say anything more to Ellen.
He simply said coldly, "If you still have some conscience, go to the hospital and see Mr. McBride. He is still unconscious."
