Chapter 25: Chapter 25 She Always Knew
"You weren’t from our school before, so you probably didn’t know, did you? He was really popular at our school. There were so many girls who liked him, I bet they could line up all around the track. There were girls confessing to him every day."
"I know, I’ve been to your school before." It was just last Friday during the basketball game at Jiu Middle School. She had promised Jiang Zhiyi she would come to watch his game, but something had come up on the way, and she arrived just as the game ended.
Jiang Zhiyi thought she hadn’t come, but she had, she just didn’t show up.
She had always known how popular he was.
Back in junior high, there were even girls who secretly followed him home.
...
Xu Chenxi had just finished eating and was preparing to leave the cafeteria with her friends when she suddenly saw a familiar figure, and her expression changed involuntarily.
Her classmate saw her staring and couldn’t help but call out, "Xixi, what are you looking at?"
Xu Chenxi stared in the direction of Shen Weiyi for a moment, making sure she wasn’t mistaken, a hint of suspicion deepening in her eyes.
What was she doing here?
Hearing her friend’s call, Xu Chenxi composed herself and turned away, giving her friends a smile, "Oh, I just remembered, I think I left my keys on the table. I’ll go back and look for them, you guys go back to the classroom first."
"We could wait for you!" her friend said.
"No need, I have some other things to take care of anyway. You guys go ahead."
"Alright then, we’ll head back first."
"Okay!" Xu Chenxi smiled at them.
Once her friends had left, she took a deep breath, turned around, and walked towards Shen Weiyi.
"Sister Yiyi, what are you doing here? You wouldn’t happen to be looking for my brother, would you?" Xu Chenxi feigned surprise as she spoke, "But why are you alone? Where’s my brother? If you’re at our school, he must know, right? What, haven’t you two made up yet? Can’t you find him? Should I call him for you?"
Shen Weiyi had almost finished her meal, but seeing Xu Chenxi made her lose the last bit of her appetite. She put down her chopsticks, looked up, and said, "Don’t worry, I’m not here for him."
Besides, if she wanted to find someone, she wouldn’t need Xu Chenxi to pass on messages.
Xu Chenxi put on an innocent, aggrieved expression and said, "Sister Yiyi, I didn’t mean anything by it. I was just surprised to see you in the cafeteria and thought maybe you were here specifically to see my brother."
Shen Weiyi wasn’t interested in watching Xu Chenxi’s act or in playing along. She said, "If you can’t hear well it’s fine, I can repeat myself. I’m not here for him. Also, I transferred to Jiu Middle School, so I’ll be eating here from now on, so no need for the dramatics."
"What?"
Xu Chenxi’s expression involuntarily stiffened for a moment, then realizing her lapse, she quickly masked her true feelings and resumed an expression of surprise and innocence, "Sister Yiyi transferred to our school? When did this happen? Why haven’t you ever mentioned it before?"
Shen Weiyi replied, "I just transferred today. But by your reaction, it seems like you really wouldn’t want me transferring?"
"Why would that be?" Xu Chenxi’s smile was stiff as she replied, "I’m just very surprised, that’s all."
"Is that so? Because to me, it seems like you simply don’t want me transferring to your school," Xu Chenxi liked to put on an act, but Shen Weiyi wasn’t in the mood to play along.
"Xu Chenxi, you sent that photo on purpose, didn’t you?" she suddenly asked.
