“What the hell?”

Captain Ouyang Jian stared at Wei Wei’s uncertain expression, visibly bewildered.But Wei Wei had no time to explain. Snatching the remaining meat skewers, he followed an inner impulse down the bustling street of the Demon Trading Market . Whether hallucination or not, the further he walked, the clearer the murmurs in his mind became.Blood vessels in his eyes faintly glowed, tinting his vision crimson. Vivid, intrusive images flooded his thoughts:Himself prowling a midnight street, abruptly tackling a lone woman into an alley.Slipping into a room late at night, subduing someone with drugged precision.Young faces staring back at him, trembling and tear-streaked.…None of these were his actions—the techniques in these visions were too amateurish.Why are these scenes in my head? Why this uncontrollable hunger, this perverse excitement?Suppressing questions, he quickened his pace.Captain Ouyang followed, brows furrowed in confusion but holding his tongue. He regretted not bringing a stabilizer serum  from headquarters.Minutes later, they reached the market’s edge. Before them loomed a half-collapsed building, its ruins shrouded in darkness. Wei Wei halted, exhaled deeply, and declared:“Found it, Captain…”…Beneath the ruins, in a hidden garage accessible through rubble, a masked figure in a hood was led by burly men to a bullet-riddled truck. Behind it stood a massive iron cage packed with women, emaciated, disheveled, their eyes hollow.“This is all?” The masked man’s voice dripped with disdain.A middle-aged man in camo leaned against the truck, smirking. “Best stock the wilderness offers. The Seventh Wandering Sect  banned this trade, but now they’re gone. Pay up, today’s your lucky day.”“…I wanted pure lambs. Untainted.” The masked man’s eyes flashed anger. “Look at these, ruined!”The traffickers burst into laughter. “Pure? In the wilderness? Go to the city for virgins, if you can find any there either! Enough talk. Pay.”The masked man’s breath hitched. City? If I could safely hunt there, would I be here?Recent headlines haunted him: Scrap Iron City’s newspapers splashed bloody, barely censored photos of a ritual site obliterated overnight, its Life Priest  turned into a grotesque “artwork.” Someone was sending a message: We’re being hunted.He’d panicked. With three “pure” sacrifices left for his mission, he’d risked this wretched black market. But the women here were broken shells. Even brothel workers in the Spiritual Barrier have more life when money’s waved…Gritting his teeth, he began selecting ten women, hoping three might suffice.Unseen by the traffickers, their faces turned corpse-gray. Blood trickled from their nostrils and eyes, yet they felt nothing. The masked man hid a smirk. Success.…“What did you find?” Outside the ruins, Captain Ouyang eyed Wei Wei’s eerie calm with unease.“Living proof of other sacrificial sites,” Wei Wei grinned. “I heard his heartbeat.”“Heard?”“Yes. Thud-thud, clear, right here.” Wei Wei tapped his ear. “Fear of me… yet he keeps sinning. That’s how I tracked him.”Clarity struck. As Scarlet power  surged, Wei Wei sensed the man’s dread, the guilt of someone who knew better but sinned anyway. His “artwork” had done more than intimidate; it forged a link. Fear alone didn’t trigger Scarlet’s third-stage power—but persisting in fear-driven sin did. Now, Wei Wei would deliver true terror.…“Wait here, Captain.” Wei Wei turned, eyes alight. “I’ll fetch our evidence.”…“Scarlet’s power… magnificent.” Wei Wei murmured, stepping into the ruins.Behind him, Captain Ouyang paled. Though Wei Wei’s explanation was sparse, the captain pieced it together: Using the artwork as a beacon to locate targets? This isn’t just a demonic ability…It’s like a deity answering prayers…It’s…divine authority!
