Scarlet Descent -
Ch. 76 - True Demon Believers
"So this is the third stage of the Scarlet Path?"
Feeling the changes in his body brought by the Scarlet Power, Wei Wei experienced a surge of complex emotions. From his initial unconscious awakening, to his accidental ascension during training camp, to the subsequent blockage on his Scarlet path that led him to join the Foundation’s experiments, and then to returning the experimental subject and coming back to Scrap Iron City, rediscovering the Blood-Flesh Rose had finally given him a conscious opportunity to ascend to the third state.Taking this step forward symbolized that he had truly embarked on this path. This room, where his uncontrollable life began, was now where he set out once more.It seemed as though everything had its meaning, didn’t it?Wei Wei found himself unaccustomed to such clarity of thought. He closed his eyes silently, feeling the changes in his Scarlet Power. Now that he had entered the third state, what new abilities would he gain?As this thought crossed his mind, the sound of blood flowing began to echo in his ears, a rushing noise like wind howling through arteries as blood sprayed from them. Faces of those on the brink of death flashed before his eyes, spreading out one by one as though imbued with some mysterious significance, unfolding in his mental world... In the empty room, endless murmurs began to emerge at some point, as though something distant and mystical was gazing down upon him.For the first time, Wei Wei deliberately stepped onto the staircase of the Scarlet Demon’s Path.At that moment, a human-head ornament mounted on the wall behind her seemed to sense the strange and powerful aura.Silently, one of its eyes creaked open.Last time, it hadn’t stirred—even when scorched with a lighter. But now, it could no longer remain dormant. Its eyeball rolled downward, glancing at Wei Wei sitting on the sofa. It seemed intoxicated by the pervasive smell of blood in the room."The true demon is beginning to awaken..." Meanwhile, deep within the Spiritual Barrier, at the First City Defense Line’s Vanguard Studio...Someone opened a file classified as A-level confidential. The first thing displayed was a photograph of Wei Wei from three years ago.Name: Wei WeiAge: 19Identity: Inheritor of Scarlet Demon powers; trainee at East Mountain Soaring Snake Training Camp ; experimental subject for Scarlet Weapon researchScarlet Essence: SlaughterSystem Base Attribute: Slaughter Intuition (Greatly enhances perception and insight when targeting slaughter; grows stronger with intensity and determination)AbilitiesFirst State Abilities:Death Threat : The ability to threaten any entity with a weapon, even elevators, wild dogs unfamiliar with guns, cats, beasts, or even Demon Forbidden Objects. Note: Threats toward inanimate objects only work when within a demonic magnetic field; otherwise, they have no effect.Ability Memory : Randomly retains one ability after using different demon serums, usually basic abilities.Second State Abilities:Slaughter Imbuement: The ability to channel Scarlet Power into firearms, blades, vehicles, or other objects, turning otherwise ordinary items into instruments of overwhelming destruction. The greater the user's intent to kill, the more devastating the effect.(While tests have shown it can be repurposed for tasks like climbing or physical regeneration, its effectiveness in such applications is significantly diminished.)Third State Abilities:Awaiting documentation...RemarksThe Scarlet Weapon experiment concluded that this type of power is extremely dangerous. Close-combat capabilities rank among the top three alongside War Demons and Order Demons. However, due to limited experimental data and individual variability among subjects, precise rankings remain inconclusive. A statement from an East Mountain Training Camp instructor:"His danger far exceeds your imagination.""You idiots think you can control a lunatic? Let alone one wielding the most dangerous power imaginable?"(Note: This instructor himself is a Demon Totem and has repeatedly demonstrated unethical behavior during training sessions, including accepting bribes, falsifying evaluations and experimental data for personal gain, misreporting specialized ammunition quantities during missions, and privately teaching unsuitable theories. Credibility rating: C-level.) Final Conclusion: Approved for participation in the Blood-Flesh Rose Project.Red Warning Line: Be advised, while this project has been approved for execution, it carries significant uncontrollable risks. At that moment... Captain Ouyang was riding his newly modified sidecar motorcycle with Uncle Gun toward Wei Wei’s apartment building.Ouyang Jian’s expression was grim as he clutched a rolled-up newspaper while striding up toward Room 302 on the third floor.Uncle Gun hesitated behind him but didn’t dare speak up. As they neared Room 302, Ouyang Jian’s expression suddenly changed, his steps slowed, and he turned back to stop Uncle Gun from advancing further."Be careful, don’t disturb him..." Uncle Gun was startled and about to speak when he too noticed something unusual.Silence.It was far too quiet. The entire uninhabited three-story apartment building seemed enveloped by an invisible force, completely isolating all sound. Before noticing it, it felt normal, but once aware, their hair stood on end as faint whispers echoed in their ears, an oppressive weight settling over their hearts...It felt like being submerged dozens of meters underwater, where everything became distorted...Only their hearts remained heavy, beating slower... heavier... slower still... Flap-flap-flap...A sudden noise startled them, they turned toward it, and saw a crow that had accidentally flown into the building. The bird had been flying normally but lost control upon entering, crashing onto the floor where it flailed briefly before curling up trembling in a corner. Squeak-squeak-squeak...Shrill cries rang out as two rats burst from cracks in concrete walls, biting each other viciously until their bellies were torn open, spilling crimson intestines across surfaces... In window crevices, sprouting blades of grass visibly withered at an accelerated pace...High above, the Spiritual Barrier rippled invisibly...From Scrap Iron City’s western edge, the bell at Faceless God Church tolled softly, its sound drifting hauntingly through space... "What is this..." Uncle Gun instinctively gripped his hunting rifle tightly while casting a questioning glance at Ouyang Jian.At that moment, even speaking felt dangerous, as though any sound might provoke something terrible...Ouyang Jian shook his head lightly before whispering:"He’s ascending...""Ascending?" Uncle Gun was stunned, his disbelief evident as he stared at Room 302’s tightly shut door. How could someone ascend under such unprepared circumstances? And how could anyone undergoing ascension emit such terrifying demonic radiation?Wasn’t Little Wei part of the Life Sequence? Could this bizarre aura truly come from a Life Sequence ascension?Worry crept into Uncle Gun’s heart as he turned toward Ouyang Jian with a hesitant expression... "Go back, and fetch some stabilizers!" Ouyang Jian ordered sternly without turning around."Stabilizers..." Uncle Gun felt relieved momentarily, but before leaving, he turned back worriedly:"Captain... he’s still young, you won’t act rashly right?""Rash my ass!" Ouyang Jian growled under his breath before snapping: "I came here today intending to strangle him!"Uncle Gun’s eyes widened in shock.Ouyang Jian sighed deeply before muttering: "But I’ll wait until after he finishes ascending..."Uncle Gun couldn’t help but smile faintly at that response.Ouyang Jian sighed again, his gaze complex as he glanced toward Room 302, his expression conflicted between frustration and resignation...He seemed tempted to kick down that door, to drag Wei Wei out for answers, but ultimately shook his head instead:"The ascension ritual is too important, we can’t interrupt him now.""Go back to base, and bring stabilizers, I’ll stay here to guard him."Uncle Gun nodded quickly before leaping out through a window while Ouyang Jian pressed his hand gently against a wall... An invisible force spread softly outward like ripples enveloping all three floors...The trembling crow in its corner suddenly took flight, escaping through an open window like it had been pardoned...The bloodied rats retreated into their holes...And within Room 302, the human-head ornament hanging on its wall hurriedly closed its eyes, as though terrified by what it sensed... Yet across Scrap Iron City, that brief burst of demonic radiation left countless individuals feeling faint unease...From elderly souls teetering on corruption’s edge, to witches draped in bones seeking glimpses into fate, to wandering priests strolling Scrap Iron City’s outskirts like carefree travelers from afar...Even hidden entities running out of patience, the Flesh and Clock alike stirred uneasily...And within some distant church, a priest wearing a red cap sat silently on a pew holding a red-covered book...Some felt ripples within their hearts, others shadows darkening over them...One voice whispered faintly amidst it all:"The only demon... now has true believers."Next week we are doing a mass release of 3 chapters everyday!
